Joss Whedon developing Marvel SHIELD series for ABC

The biggest problem with having Carol in the series is,you can kiss any hopes of her being Ms Marvel in an Avengers film good-bye.

On the other hand,the chances of that were a longshot to begin with.(Any number of other heroes could get a spot on the team before her.Wasp,Ant-man,Falcon,Black Panther,Etc)

And it's also a good way to actually get Yvonne in the role,as I fear producers would be after a "bigger name" for a big budget movie.

It's nice to see so much support for Yvonne.It makes me think she actually stands a shot of getting the role.Now if we can only get this much support behind Mark Valley for Clay........Win!

But it wouldn't be an Avengers series, even if Carol became Ms Marvel or Bobbi became Mockingbird. Until they actually join up with the team, they could easily still have those identities and be part of SHIELD. After all, Black Widow and Hawkeye had those identities and were part of SHIELD before they ever joined the Avengers. In IM2, Natasha was Black Widow even back then and the Avengers weren't even formed.

Don't get me wrong,I'd like nothing better than to see a costumed Ms Marvel every week,RDJ dropping by for a story arc,Sam Jackson giving commands via viewscreen.....but if you think that's what this is going to be,you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

Why would that be the case? Why would the focus have to be shifted disproportionately to her? She can have her whole getting super powers thing as her own side plot where there's other plot going on around her.

Slayer nice choice for mockingbird but I rather go younger with her. And maybe make her a new inexperienced shield agent just starting out. Kinda taking the idea awhile ago of a mockingbird show waas in the works. See it more fitting to have her here and be the rookie agent.


Oh come on really just cause she could be a character in show would not automatically dibarb the chance of carol showing up in avengers sequel or say cap/ironman films. And look at plently of actors who go frrom tv to film and vis vircsa. Plus having the show set in mcu. This is easy way to introduce characters who likely won't get a solo film any time soon. And in carol case, we can develop her character in the show. And then she appears in avengers sequel let's say and in the film she can develop her powers. Then after film we return to show and she has powers to use in the show when see fit. Plus like how we slowly developed stark/fury/coulson/hulk/thor over therre films we get that with carol and other heroes potentially in this show.

Good choices, although I don't know how I'd feel having two people from the same previous show on this show. However, Whedon has done that before several times. But what if either Carol or Quartermain (if played by McPartlin) somehow meet Fandral? It would be a Chuck reunion!

Haha, while I'm not particularly looking for one, I certainly wouldn't be against a Chuck reunion, tbh. After all, Adam Baldwin and Whedon must reunite at some point anyway!

As for Barbara/Mockingbird...

Autumn Reeser. I know she's in that new Last Resort show, but just based on the ads, it doesn't seem like her role in that will be that large, so I'm not sure how long that will last or if she won't also be available to do other things. I've just always wanted to see her work with Whedon's dialogue because she's so great at the fast-talking quippy style.

On smulders and jackson I see them more likely then getting rdjr,evans, etc.... hero roles. Really we don't need fury/hill showing up in person every single episode. They can be held off for sweep/premirre episodes. Then toss in a few episodes here and there of a audio recording by them to be used, or even then standing in from of a blue or green screen(where bridge of helicarrier be put in or something). Its not like marvel/disney is going to cheap out on the show. When all parties care about it.

Then either gain powers in thee show or have her make an appearance in avengers sequel orr another film in the works. And then return the follwoing tv season and have powers. And she uses the, as needed.

Plus, ensemble balance. Having her outclass the other characters in every way would leave them with little to contribute. It's because of this that I specified character roles when I posted my thoughts on who the main characters of the show should be.

Her most expensive power would be her energy blasts, a power which she didn't get until much later down the line in a storyline that had her traveling through space, something I doubt they'd do on this show. Other that that, all she has is flight and superhuman strength and durbaility and such, which are not that expensive to produce and for the most part could be easily produce through practical effects than the more expensive cgi.

There are other ways of minimizing the cost than removing the powers entirely. And keeping the use of them low to keep within budget doesn't automatically mean that she won't be using them when it would logically make sense.

As for ensemble balance, I think The Avengers clearly demonstrated that having characters who are more powerful than the others in every way (Thor and Hulk) don't make the other characters useless.

I agree, she was already my top pick for Wasp, but I feel like they'll go for a bigger name for that role since Ant-Man's gonna need all the help it can get with the GA. Since there's now an MCU TV show, I feel like she's much more likely to get cast for a major role in this than in a movie.

If Carol is in this (and remember we still don't know Jack about who's in this or not) I imagine they will do something about her Ms Marvel storyline eventually,but I still don't see her flying around in a costume during the series.It'll likely be very low key.

Another thing to remember is the network will be involved (ABC) which means they'll have to approve storylines,costumes,villains....it's hardly gonna be a walk in the park as far as getting everything accuratly translated from the page to the screen.

Moreover, characters like Iron Man and Captain America could hold their own physically against characters like Thor and Hulk. So, the power discrepancy isn't that huge. The ones who were completely normal humans (e.g. Fury, Hill, and to an extent, Hawkeye and Black Widow) were considerably more sidelined than the big four. And no, it's not like the Hulk (at the time, especially) has an ongoing franchise to promote.

why would you want the show to be separate things. With having it connected to film verse we can get characters/actors like smulder/hill, jackson/fury and others. And we already know it will be set within the world. We just dont know how its going to go about and make connections/refrences to the events in the films. I see no reason why if for example carol was in the show it would be any problems with her if she was to appear in avengers sequel and either in the show or the avengers sequel to develop her powers. She can just be a tieing factor we develop the character in the show folks/fans get to develop emotions and info on the character like we have see in the solo films leading up to avengers on the hero characters/fury/shield. And then what ever happens in sequel can be set up for things in the show or visa virca. What is wrong with that.

Smulder would still be with HIMYM for 2 more seasons and Jackson would never star in a tv show.
Not to mention, we could've gotten a super cool shield TV show starring Nick Fury, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Carol Denvers and all the non powered Avengers.
Right now, anyone in the movie would not be available to star in the TV show. I can't imagine Jeremy Renner or Scarlett Johannson in a tv show.
Not to mention, if it was like your plan that she'll get her powers in the movie and only act as a human in the TV show, she would have to come back in season 2 all powered up. Theres going to be a huge discrepancy on the effects. A movie budget and a TV budget are worlds apart.
Alas, its going to create confusion in terms of scripting. Theres just way too much problems that could happen. Not to mention, it would be way too time consuming for Joss Whedon to keep track with whats happening in the TV show and the movie.
So if we were to get a Shield TV show, I'm pretty sure all of the characters would not every appear on the big screen. Which is a dilemma for me cos I really wanna see Ms Marvel on the big screen, but I wouldn't be attracted to the show at all without Ms Marvel.
Also, if all the characters in the TV show won't be in the movie and vice versa, whats the point of making it in the same universe.

I'm curious as to where all of this skepticism about the show is coming from, regarding some of the characters being available. Look they have already said that the show is going to be in the MCU but will remain autonomous. To me this says that the plot points and story arcs are going to acknowledge the movies but they will focus on other parts of the MCU.

I definitely see Sam Jackson making at least a couple of appearances and I could see Renner making a guest spot. I think we will see the story focus on several agents and their attempts to deal with the aftermath of The Avengers, probably opposing attempts by Hydra to gain power in the world. I think we will be introduced to new superheros and some of those heros will make it to the big screen.
