Joss Whedon developing Marvel SHIELD series for ABC

So I wonder if this show will get its own forum here if/when it gets a season pick-up.

That'd be nice.

While this SHOULD be the final season of HIMYM, it hasn't been confirmed whether or not it will be. I'd hate to see Hill recast, but she just may not be available.

Well, if she's not available then she won't be the main character, simple as that. They'd probably have the main character be middle management, someone low enough on the totem poll to be in the field and not actually interact with Hill or Fury face to face very often. So Smulders and Sam Jackson can show up as guest stars every now and then, but infrequently enough to fit their schedules.

Jimmy Woo or Bobbi Morse would be good to have on the show if that's the case.

I don't know if Cobie will have the time with the pilot going into production immediately, she'll probably be busy with HIMYM.

Hopefully the lead is one Carol Danvers

But isn't that S.W.O.R.D.?

But isn't that S.W.O.R.D.?

SWORD is part of SHIELD (and is an intentional play on words). And considering that Joss Whedon invented SWORD, I fully expect that they'll be part of the TV series as well.

Hope this isnt a low budget cheesefest. lol, Thankfully SHIELD doesnt require a whole ton of special effects. I really wanna see some hero cameos on this too. Or include street level heroes that SHIELD is keeping an eye on. Like luke cage

Whedon's a pretty cheesy guy, cheesiness is more or less inevitable. But it probably won't be to the point where it's distracting or weighs the show down.

Her SWORD connection is from the cartoon, she's SHIELD in Ultimate, and she was Air Force in the main comics

Basically it varies, all that matters is that she kicks ass

They didn't even wait for the pick-up for that Wonder Woman forum :oldrazz:
LOL, I never even noticed that got a forum. If that doesn't illustrate my complete lack of interest in that show from the beginning (or as soon as the words "David E. Kelley" were mentioned), I don't know what does.

This likely won't be filmed until next spring and given the potential it may be pushed to summer 2013 to attach key talent and not debut until February 2014.

This can fill the action/thriller gap left by 24 and be the replacement for Grey's on ABC Thursday.

I dunno, it says in the article that "production on the pilot will start immediately," so I think we're looking at a Fall 2013 debut.

My only hope would be if Josh Radnor and Jason Segel wind up playing a part or a guest spot in this show. That way, Joss Whedon would have worked with everyone from How I Met Your Mother. Yet, never having once touched it. :D

I expect Jed to be show runner.joss is good to his brothers. He's like a Nolan. Joss will set things up and will get updates and maybe write some episodes but he has a whole universe to over see....yes he is God now, just except it.

As for the show? Pretty cut and dry. It's like 24 with a sci-fi twist

One way I can see them making use of Fury while fitting Sam Jackson's schedule and budget is to have him appear once-an-episode for five minutes or so where he briefs the main characters on their mission via a video screen. This has the added benefit of making the world feel bigger than what we see.

My question is whether the show will (be able to) make use of the Avengers prop and sets; especially the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.

While I am totally excited, I just wish that Colby was free to come back for Maria Hill full time as a main character. And of course Black Widow/Hawkeye wouldve been perfect but no way they are goign to the silver screen. Hoping they bring in Mockingbirg (I am wishing for a JOss/SMG reunion here!)

They were talking about doing a Mockingbird show for ABC Family at one point. I don't know if that was shelved or fell through or still going on though.

This needs Agent Coulson. Just say that the Agent Coulson that died was a LMD. Then Fury sends the real Agent Coulson to be in charge of a new squad or unit w/e. Two guys that can work with Agent Coulson are The Man In Black from Item 47 & bring in Jacob & there you go

I'd rather have Coulson back as Vision, but I think it'd be too hokey. It's been said that this cinematic universe is trying to be as grounded as possible given alien gods, gamma monsters, and aliens from Titan.

:o

I'm a little disappointed that this isn't a Heroes for Hire show, as I thought that would be the best route to explore the larger Marvel Universe. However, I will definitely be checking out this show. The tidbit that the show will largely be autonoumous of The Avengers says to me that SHIELD will be dealing with mostly street-level issues and some international espionage type action.

I agree with others that Agent Sitwell will likely be a regular. I think other regular agents will be Quartermain, Danvers, Jimmy Woo, and Bobbi Morse. SHIELD will likely be our guide through the MCU as they encounter an increase in superhero activity in the aftermath of The Avengers. I think we will see a lot of guest appearances as we meet new heroes like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Moon Knight, Daredevil and maybe even Punisher. I like the idea of Tim Blake Nelson having a recurring role as the Leader and I could see the re-emergence of Hydra being a main antagonist. MCU on a weekly basis, yes please!

The way television works, I suspect it's going to be structured like a ensemble cop show, with a central protaganist with key supporting characters. If Whedon is involved, likely the central protaganist will be female.

La Contessa is a bit too exotic and privileged to be your typical Whedon-esque heroine. I'm guessing the main character will either be an original creation or maybe Abigail Brand, Danvers, Bobbi Morse or Jessica Drew. If there was no Captain America movie franchise, Sharon Carter would be the easiest character to use here, but I assume she's off limits.

Clay Quartermain is almost a lock, to be the "dude" of the show and the love interest of the main character. I wouldn't be surprised to see Jimmy Woo there too, as kind of the loyal soldier who's there to back up the main heroine without being sexually threatening (as Asian men are fairly asexual in American media; Jimmy would be the proxy "gay best friend" of the heroine :hehe:).

Though La Contessa will not be the main character, she would be an interesting supporting character to counterbalance the earnest nature of the main heroine. Kind of like the "Cordelia" of the show, if you will.

That leaves one last character that's important for this kind of show: the "chief" or authority figure. Assuming that Fury and Hill are out of the question, I guess this will be presented as some kind of regional director, who reports to Fury or Hill offscreen. I guess GW Bridge belongs to the X-men franchise, otherwise he'd be a good choice. Not sure who could play that role, as my SHIELD knowledge is pretty much exhausted at this point.

There Is decent chance actors Joss has worked with could be In running for roles here. This Is almost certinly a fall 2013 premiere.

This allows the show to help setup things for films. The show could setup a modern day Hydra that could appear In Captain America:The Winter Soldier.

Based on actors willingness and schedules actors from films could show up In pilot and sweeps events.

Characters marvel doesn't have plans for films for could show up here.

My hope Is the show will laregly be Shield dealing with ongoing threat with occassional detours.
