Ya sag is a factor to. And I don't know all the rules on sag actors on sag shows/non union shows. And what happens if they do things for a cut/or free and all that. But still who knows what samual deal would be or how often he could show up. That is why I say doing audio work would be the easiest option to go for him/smulders and can be done on the fly and be ingerated into a episode.

So you're saying Marvel Studios is catering to the female demographic by introducing strong, independent superheroines as feminist role models in non-objectified costumes....? Great! Very forward-thinking of them. So let's see, we've got....um, how many superheroines again....? Just one....? And she's, um, a seductress in a black catsuit....

Reality check: the only female audiences the Marvel Studios have attracted are the ones who love to see Thor, Cap, and Hulk shirtless. Because face it --- that's the only skin they've ever shown in these movies. All those topless men with their glistening, rock-hard pecs and six-pack abs....sexploitation! Where's the RAAAAGE, man....?!?! :cmad:

Hey, be sure and wake me up whenever Marvel Studios introduces these strong, non-sexualized, non-objectified female superheroine role models you seem to have dreamed up.
I actually said none of that first bit. So, uh, congrats?

Yes Thor and Cap have both had a shirtless scene. So did Stark. You remember the rest of the movies? The other 100-150 minutes featuring each of those characters? Where they were characters, and were treated with respect and dignity? Were given character arcs, and costumes that complemented those arcs?

Realty check: the movies are grand scaled soap operas. They're romantic comedies masquerading as action movies. I have no idea how to respond to the notion that women who went to see these movies only did so because Hulk wore nothing but his torn capris.

Who the hell said anything about cameltoe, other than you?

You. Right there.

I think all this **** is dumb. I know TONS of female nerds who are into these characters just because they are awesome. You guys over analyze stuff WAY too much

+1. I have a strong feeling he GA just walks in and out and doesn't think too much at all about how utilitarian or silly a costume looks, or whether an alien raccon is stupid. It's us online ones that overthink it.

Useless posturing and flagellation on the internet? No way bro. Serious business only.

They need to translate my comics to screen exactly :argh:

And then when they don't, I'll whine about it for 6 months (Helmets! Quilt costumes! Perma-white! Not enough skin!) :argh:

And then after I see the movie, i'll talk about how much I loved the changes :)

Latex catsuits are a dime a dozen in movies and TV and stage nowadays, and nobody bats an eye at such garb. Look at Pfeiffer's Catwoman....that's pretty much how a Jessica Drew costume would look with a color change, and nobody would scream "ERR MAH GERD, GET AWAY PERNERGAFER!" (Except here in the 'Hype, of course. :oldrazz:)

So, you say that you are in no way a chauvinist or misogynist, but then you make the claim that the only women who who like the marvel comic movies are the ones who went to see the male characters shirtless.

You categorize all women as being unable to enjoy a super hero movie unless there are hot shirtless men in it. What part of that isn't misogynistic?

Anyway, I hear they're making a SHIELD show. Should be good.

... changes which were never analyzed to see if they were silly or made sense to the audience, just random changes that coincidentally were loved by fans and non fans alike.

This is your reality? Talk to some girls at the next MCU film, so that your reality can line up better with all the women you're referring to.

ok so to get away from the debate we had going. What shield agents do you want as leads(lets limit it to 5-6characters) and actors you think would suit the roles. Also dont forgot charcters who already have actors hill/fury/sitwell.

Carol Danvers - pretty much a must, helps build up to Ms. Marvel and best option for someone graduating from the show to Avengers, but still coming back.

Walter Lawson - A side effect of Carol, could be brought in later, but his death would be more meaningful if he was there from the start
Clay Quartermain - Just a solid agent you can put a lot of character development on
Daisy Johnson - Too many blondes, need this powered agent, to cement the idea that it's it's a superhero spy show and not just a spy show, a great character from the comics. Plus, you can't have show with all blondes. :(
Abigail Brand - Especially if they're going the alien route instead of just HYDRA.
Jimmy Woo - Another solid character.

i dont know much on shield agents myself but i do like the idea of carol, clay, and woo as at least 3 members of the group. Then maybe mockingbird or daisy as another female. Then toss in another 2 guys and have a balance of 3 males/2 females. or 3 males/3 females.

As for baddies no reason not to have hydra resurange in modern day, aim(again all counting how they are presented in im3), to possibly some alien threats(development of sword at a later point).

Based on who I think are fairly realistic options and who might actually be available to do it:

Carol Danvers (look away, Majik!):

Yvonne Strahovski

Clay Quartermain:

Jamie Dornan

Ryan McPartlin

Jimmy Woo:

Ken Leung

Daisy Johnson:

Tricia Helfer (Joss is a massive BSG fanboy, and he managed to get two BSG stars onto Dollhouse for its brief run, so I'll be shocked if he doesn't snag another for this show)

Wendell Vaughn:

envergjokaj.jpg

Enver Gjokaj

Abigail Brand:

Amy Acker (as per DrCosmic's suggestion)

And then just have either Sitwell or Titus Welliver's character from Item 47 be their go-to "authority figure" on the show.

Good choices, although I don't know how I'd feel having two people from the same previous show on this show. However, Whedon has done that before several times. But what if either Carol or Quartermain (if played by McPartlin) somehow meet Fandral? It would be a Chuck reunion!

Who would you have for Mockinbird/ Barbara Morse?

Flick nice choice of characters and actors. I know most of them and be happy with those choices.

Have they actually said Carol Denvers would be in the show?
I would only watch it if they're getting Carol Denvers in the show.

haha I love Ken Leung. I'm watching Lost right now. :p And I support any casting that has Tricia Helfer.

we no nothing of what characters would be appearing. But seth no reason to think they wouldnt want to use carol. Set her up in the show develop the character. Then in avengers 2 she joins the team and maybe gains her powers in the film. And then she if the show is still going also stays on the show. She would be a good character to have. Along side clay, woo, etc.... others.

My only problem with your plan is that, its impossible for her to not clash on TV and on the movie. All in all, I'm extremely annoyed that this would be in the same universe as Avengers. I wish it was a separate identity so that theres more possibilities for this to work out.
But anyhows, I'll definitely watch it if Carol Denvers is in the show. Other than that, I don't think I have any interest in any of the other characters in Shield.

why would you want the show to be separate things. With having it connected to film verse we can get characters/actors like smulder/hill, jackson/fury and others. And we already know it will be set within the world. We just dont know how its going to go about and make connections/refrences to the events in the films. I see no reason why if for example carol was in the show it would be any problems with her if she was to appear in avengers sequel and either in the show or the avengers sequel to develop her powers. She can just be a tieing factor we develop the character in the show folks/fans get to develop emotions and info on the character like we have see in the solo films leading up to avengers on the hero characters/fury/shield. And then what ever happens in sequel can be set up for things in the show or visa virca. What is wrong with that.

Not sure how feasible this idea is since I haven't seen nearly enough of Lizzy Caplan's work to know if she can lead a TV series on her own but I'm basing this ensemble list on the assumption that Item 47 was a test/early bird sneak peak of SHIELD's new characters. Plus a dash of quirk because that's how Whedon rolls. As such, doing my best to blend that with classic SHIELD characters, here's my idea for the show's main characters. Note: I've deliberately kept the team as normal humans.

The characters are split between field agents and those running support from HQ:

The field agents:

Claire Wise - A rookie SHIELD agent and audience surrogate character to the spy and super-sciece world that is SHIELD. She did not take to being Agent Blake's 'protege'. Not long after Item 47, Blake transferred her to field work; if only to get rid of her. A bit of a ditz and naive. A runnning gag would be her continued inability to make coffee despite having learned how to do just about everything else.

Clay Quartermain - Claire's partner and mentor. A suave, flirty and cocksure spy (think along the lines of classic James Bond). Freshly back from a deep cover mission in New York. Ideally, played by Enver Gjokaj (he's got the trademark smile!). When Claire first mentions that he doesn't quite (ethnically) look like a man named 'Clay Quartermain', it's handwaved by him laughing it off and saying how cute (and naive) it is of her to think that's his real name (or, that's how he originally looked).

Jimmy Woo and Barbara Morse/Mockingbird - Two agents who regularly work with Claire and Clay in an op. They are partners and unlike Clay, are more confrontational/combat orientated in their approach and skill set. Barbara as a close combat expert whilst Jimmy is an expert marksman; just to subvert the stereotype that all Chinese guys know kung fu. Instead, Jimmy reminds Claire that his surname being 'Woo' should have clued her in on the fact that guns are his thing.

Back at home base:

Carol Danvers - A captain and current boss of the featured SHIELD division/team. Physically appears young, sweet and innocent. However, her reputation and body of experience boasts highly impressive achievements (think Hetty from NCIS: Los Angeles; except it's her perkiness that misleads people).

Jasper Sitwell - Transferred out of the field and back into the office after Item 47; SHIELD deciding he didn't quite have the combat skills or mettle for wetwork. Instead, currently serves as the team's 'public relations specialist'. In other words, he's the guy who provides the field agents their aliases for the mission, develop cover stories to tell the media and ensures the team's activities remains secret from the public.

Benny Pollack - Claire's boyfriend from Item 47. Unlike Claire, he's adjusted well in SHIELD's R&D department. Currently, serves as the team's 'Tinkerer'; providing the field agents the equipment and tech they need for missions (think Q). Gets a little jealous and worried of Quartermain's putting the moves on his girlfriend.

And since I foresee a fall 2013 release (which would be about the time Iron Man 3 comes out on Blu-ray/DVD), I see the first episode guest starring RDJ or Gwyneth Paltrow to work in some cross-promotion. The idea being Tony wants SHIELD to test out his security during an event (ideally, without Pepper Potts' knowledge if RDJ himself can make an appearance). Claire would wonder why SHIELD would be doing such a thing for some billionaire playboy only for someone to tell her that he is Iron Man; wondering what kind of rock she's been under all this time. This is followed by a quick crash course of how there are giant Hulk monsters, Norse gods and super soldiers in the world - thereby introducing the world to new viewers.

not some bad ideas there mr. p, though i rather stick to comics created shield agents. Though knowing most comics to tv/film we probably will get show created characters too.but ideally would be leads as comics character. Also that pilot idea with gp or rdjr sounds cool, though i expect fury and or hill to show up too.

Im just going to step in to say who I think would make a good Mockingbird:

Bout time these two reunite.
