ok so to get away from the debate we had going. What shield agents do you want as leads(lets limit it to 5-6characters) and actors you think would suit the roles. Also dont forgot charcters who already have actors hill/fury/sitwell.
Not sure how feasible this idea is since I haven't seen nearly enough of Lizzy Caplan's work to know if she can lead a TV series on her own but I'm basing this ensemble list on the assumption that Item 47 was a test/early bird sneak peak of SHIELD's new characters. Plus a dash of quirk because that's how Whedon rolls. As such, doing my best to blend that with classic SHIELD characters, here's my idea for the show's main characters. Note: I've deliberately kept the team as normal humans.
The characters are split between field agents and those running support from HQ:
The field agents:
Claire Wise - A rookie SHIELD agent and audience surrogate character to the spy and super-sciece world that is SHIELD. She did not take to being Agent Blake's 'protege'. Not long after Item 47, Blake transferred her to field work; if only to get rid of her. A bit of a ditz and naive. A runnning gag would be her continued inability to make coffee despite having learned how to do just about everything else.
Clay Quartermain - Claire's partner and mentor. A suave, flirty and cocksure spy (think along the lines of classic James Bond). Freshly back from a deep cover mission in New York. Ideally, played by
Enver Gjokaj (he's got the trademark smile!). When Claire first mentions that he doesn't quite (ethnically) look like a man named 'Clay Quartermain', it's handwaved by him laughing it off and saying how cute (and naive) it is of her to think that's his real name (or, that's how he originally looked).
Jimmy Woo and Barbara Morse/Mockingbird - Two agents who regularly work with Claire and Clay in an op. They are partners and unlike Clay, are more confrontational/combat orientated in their approach and skill set. Barbara as a close combat expert whilst Jimmy is an expert marksman; just to subvert the stereotype that all Chinese guys know kung fu. Instead, Jimmy reminds Claire that his surname being 'Woo' should have clued her in on the fact that
guns are his thing.
Back at home base:
Carol Danvers - A captain and current boss of the featured SHIELD division/team. Physically appears young, sweet and innocent. However, her reputation and body of experience boasts highly impressive achievements (think Hetty from NCIS: Los Angeles; except it's her perkiness that misleads people).
Jasper Sitwell - Transferred out of the field and back into the office after Item 47; SHIELD deciding he didn't quite have the combat skills or mettle for wetwork. Instead, currently serves as the team's 'public relations specialist'. In other words, he's the guy who provides the field agents their aliases for the mission, develop cover stories to tell the media and ensures the team's activities remains secret from the public.
Benny Pollack - Claire's boyfriend from Item 47. Unlike Claire, he's adjusted well in SHIELD's R&D department. Currently, serves as the team's 'Tinkerer'; providing the field agents the equipment and tech they need for missions (think Q). Gets a little jealous and worried of Quartermain's putting the moves on his girlfriend.
And since I foresee a fall 2013 release (which would be about the time Iron Man 3 comes out on Blu-ray/DVD), I see the first episode guest starring RDJ or Gwyneth Paltrow to work in some cross-promotion. The idea being Tony wants SHIELD to test out his security during an event (ideally, without Pepper Potts' knowledge if RDJ himself can make an appearance). Claire would wonder why SHIELD would be doing such a thing for some billionaire playboy only for someone to tell her that he is Iron Man; wondering what kind of rock she's been under all this time. This is followed by a quick crash course of how there are giant Hulk monsters, Norse gods and super soldiers in the world - thereby introducing the world to new viewers.
