Judge Dredd: Mega City One

According to Urban, if the story is right, he'll be there.

Well, Rebellion, who owns the rights to Judge Dredd, are currently developing a television series called Mega-City One, and I’ve had many discussions with them about my involvement of which I am interested, and I said to them, "Listen, if you write a character that has a function and a purpose and contributes to the overall story, then I might be very interested in reprising that role." I certainly wouldn’t want to step into it and just pay lip service to the movie. There has to be some material there that warrants further exploration of that character. So the ball’s in their court.

So Urban wants this to be in one way continuation of movie if he wants to return to the character. I hope it is so we get Thirbly also back

Doesn't seem like it has to be continuation of the movie based on what he's saying. He's saying he doesn't want to be there just to pay lip service to the movie.

I'd be fine if they simply keep him in the role, but the show isn't directly tied to the movie at all. Think of it like the movie was basically like the unaired pilot for the TV series.

Rob williams confirmed lead writer for the new series. They have already written the first two seasons.

Rob is a regular writer for 2000ad. This should be interesting. Hopefully he can make the step to the small screen.

It's going to be set on the comic so will be different from dredd. Also it will be many stories in mega city one so not based fully on dredd though i'm sure he'll have a big part. Not sure if it's worth having urban, he'll cost a lot and although he did a great job at the end of the day it is a bloke in a helmet with a gruff voice and strong jaw. He will bring in viewers though.

How much was he worth on Almost Human?

I have no idea. I'd love to have him don't get me wrong but not if that means the rest of budget suffers. Just really hope it's done well. Rebellion doing it themselves and choosing a writer they have worked with for years makes me both really excited and a bit worried. Really hope they get this right as it could transform the market. Companies like games workshop and video game makers might decide to do their own stuff. Please make it so.

Judge Dredd is getting his day in court again, this time on the small screen.

Rebellion Developments, the game publisher who has owned the rights to Dredd and the larger 2000 AD comic book universe since 2000, announced a while ago that it was partnering with IM Global Television to produce a television series called Judge Dredd: Mega City One.

Rebellion revealed this weekend at SDCC that not only is the pilot script complete, but that two years worth of plot for the world of the TV show has been planned out, ahead of pre-production getting underway on the first episode.

Another surprise was in store when Rebellion also announced that none other than Rob Williams has been the creative lead on the series as it's been moving forward (via THR). Williams has of course written Dredd at 2000 AD for years, and producer Jason Kingsley later had this statement on the news:

“It’s been really exciting to be working with Rob on the pilot. We have a really talented team here at Rebellion Productions and I’m really proud of them. Jason and I have been busy looking at locations and laying out season one as we gear up, to move forward into pre-production.

“I’ve read the pilot script by Rob and the team, and got that same thrill I did when I first discovered Judge Dredd. As we drive this project forward I’m always surprised by how much effort goes on behind-the-scenes to bring something like Mega-City One to the screen. I’m very pleased with how the whole project is coming together and looking forward to more exciting announcements in the coming months.”

Though Pete Travis' Dredd performed poorly in cinemas, it gained further popularity on its home release, and fans of both the film and John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra's character have been championing a return to the world ever since.

Glad it still seems to be moving ahead. But still seems like it could be a while before we see a finished product.

Expected towards the end of next year.

What's the deal then, Karl Urban want's to comeback, can these guy's and whatever network it ends up at even afford him?

I don't think he's that costly.

He isn't but depending on what network this goes to and the source material involved they may prioritise other things first. If this goes to HBO, Showtime etc no worries. If it goes to basic cable then he might not be coming back.

Aw don't remind me. I loved that show man :csad:

I haven't read any Judge Dredd comics but I absolutely love the latest movie and if the show is somewhat in the same style and tone I will for sure check it out. If Urban is a part of it then that's just cherry on the cake for me.

Was meant to meet urban at Dublin comic con this weekend but sadly he’s pulled out, it’s a shame

But at least I don’t have to kill myself trying to get my dredd sketch finished before Saturday to get him to sign lol

They've also just bought a big building to hold their studio. They're serious.

Well that was anticlimactic.

I had almost completely forgotten about this show. At this point, will believe it gets made when I see it.
