JUDGE DREDD calls reboot court into session

Here's a character that's ripe for a reboot: 'Judge Dredd'. The mega-popular British sci fi character has had the Hollywood treatment once before in the 1995 film that starred Sylvester Stallone as the title character. The movie was bad enough to make Mania's Top 15 Worst Superhero Movies of all time.
Ever since 2002, Rebellion (who holds the rights to the character) has been working to relaunch the film franchise. Back then they had ambitious plans to film back-to-back Dredd movies, In 2003 Shorline Entertainment got involved to finance the films with an eye on going into production that year. It didn't happen.
Well, now it appears that there's a new plan for bringing the Judge back to the big screen. Edward Mazmanian, he of the many and varied comic book movie groups on FaceBook, has uncovered info at ShowBizData.com about this new development.
According to the info, which he's duplciated at the Judge Dredd Movie Group, the new film is a joint production between DNA Films and Fox Searchlight. Allon Reich ('28 Weeks Later) is producing. Alex Garldan ('28 Days Later', 'Sunshine'). The production is currently seeking a director.
With the current dominance of comic book movies, the time may be right for a Judge Dredd that truly captures the scale of the Megacities and the black humor of the comics.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to a Judge Dredd movie? Lets hear your dreamcasting suggestions! Post your comments below...

Ron Perlman for Judge Dredd, the Dark Judges for the villains, the Angel family or at least Mean Machine for the secondary badguy, no goofy sidekicks.

I don't know who'd be a good Judge Anderson.

I always thought Judge Dredd would make a great Grand Theft Auto style video game, imagine a free roam Mega City One.

DROKK!!!

Brian Thompson(Cobra, X-Files) for Dredd!(cause Ray Stevenson is already The Punisher)

For villains, I'd like to see either The Dark Judges, The Angel Family, or Judge Cal and his army of Kleggs.

If done right, this could really be awesome!

Dredd is a character who truly deserves a reboot. The first film sucked and was a waste of a good concept. I can understand wanting to reboot him. Easier to understand than wanting to reboot classic and cults like The Crow or Robocop.

This is great news. The whole 2000 AD universe is ripe with great stories and characters, I'm disappointed no other characters have had the movie treatment to be honest. But obviously Dredd is the main man.

I think the film should be like Sin City, hyper stylized and ultra violent.

with how remake crazy Hollywood is getting, i would actually support this if it's done properly. the Stallone movie is a guilty pleasure of mine so seeing a good reboot would be awesome.

I'm behind this....just leave Sly and Rob Schneider out of this and develop Dredd a little better than his 1 dimension.

...ugh...f***ing Rob Schneider...

My cast for Judge Dredd would include...
Jason Issacs-Judge Joe Dredd
Rosamund Pike-Judge Anderson
CGI Judge Death
Patrick Stewart-Chief Judge Fargo
Brian Cox-Judge Cal
directed by Neil Marshall

Pretty good choices there man.

But i'd love to see what someone like Fincher could bring to the Dredd universe. Make it proper gritty and grimey, like the pages of 2000AD.

that would go directly against the point of Judge Dredd. Judge Dredd is the LAW not a multi-layered character.

Bring back Rob Schneider

Da Derp Dee Derp Da Teetley Derpee Derpee Dumb

Flat characters are normally boring to me. I would like to see more than a guy like Sly being one dimensional.

And I disagree with you, though he was the law there is more to Judge Joe than what Sly gave us. You can't deny that. Not to mention if done the same way the character will be twice as boring and they will add another ta terp da derp de derp da terp Rob Schneider to make the movie less bland and "funny" moments to it.

Ron Pearlman as Dredd....I would agree with only if it was animated. As far as live action choices hmmm.....

Judge Hershey: Gina Gershon

Judge Joe Dredd: Johnny Messner

Judge Rico: Russell Crow

CGI Judge Death....Voiced by John Malkovich

Cheif Justus Fargo: Sam Waterston

Mean Machine: Matthew Lillard

Director: Nick Love (Football Factory, Business, Outlaw)

Pretty good choices apart from this one. Shaggy as Mean?..........:hehe:

Pearlman is a good enough actor to play Dredd in live action.

They need to get Luc Besson to direct this.

the movie was on last night, visually the movie is fantastic...the Judge armor is dead on and Max Von Sydow made a great Judge Fargo.....Id hope aa new film can fix what went wrong the first time

Hey folks, Harry here... I ****ing love 2000 AD. When it burst onto the comic scene, it was unlike anything I'd ever seen... and when Stallone was signed to play Judge Dredd... I was so ****ing excited... And then the movie sucked sewer sludge and I wept... alot... cuz I felt so many people had seen this and just felt that the source material must be lame too... and it is not! 2000 AD is friggin greatness! And the production company behind SUNSHINE and 28 WEEKS LATER. We have no details as of yet (PLEASE JUDGE DEATH, PLEASE!) - but with the film set to go into production in 2009, you can bet we'll probably be hearing details shortly.
