Love Urban's chin there! He kinda' reminds me of Brian Thompson!

Still don't like the helmet being oversized. Can;t get past knowing where his eyes really are behind the visor (behind the X bridge) and how he can't see bugger all.

Here's a quick manip of something I think would look better:

I like the look of everything, but I think I agree that, the helmet on these pics does look slightly oversized

Normally, having a big helmet is considered to be a good thing (!). Sadly, not in this case though. Wobbly's manip looks tons better in terms of comparitive scale.

Well, for better or worse, that is the size we got for the helmet. I have no problem with the helmet's size at all. We have to assume that they tried helmets on Karl Urban to see how they looked on him and how he saw through them. And this was what they went with.

Those who still have a problem with it, hopefully it'll grow on you just like the Bat-suit in The Dark Knight(with its neck and "busy" look) did with skeptics.

As soon as I saw these new shots, I thought, "This looks like a fan film," and the first comments I read said the same thing. It looks cheap and amateur.

^Really?! Where at? At the 2000AD boards, the reception for these new pictures is highly positive.

Love these new pictures. Anderson is NYA. I wish she arrested me. )
I like that they keep the violence on good level.
By the way, why are people so fixed on the helmet size? It can't ruin or make the movie great. Overall, I think, the suit looks great.
And Urban is gonna rock as Dredd.

I have liked everything i have seen from this so far, except for the helmet size which I have to agree is a little jarring. But I just cant get excited for this, even as a childhood Dredd fan, it just looks underwhelming to me.

Looking at the lighting and backdrops in the pictures, I'm reminded of the look/feel of Escape From New York.

After seeing more pics I'm not really feeling Thirlby as Judge Anderson, she doesn't seem to blend well into Dredd's world.

I agree. Is Judge Anderson supposed to be a rookie?

Funnily enough, yes, yes she is. If I remember correctly Judge Anderson in this movie hasnt passed a final exam to become an official Judge, so she gets put under Dredds tutelage... or something like that.

I remember someone working on the movie mentioning Escape as an influence, could just be my imagination but i'm sure it was in regards to Dredd.

I'm genuinely not trying to have a downer about the movie. Lord knows that there have been a faithfull few of us on here posting on various 2000AD inspired threads over the years declaring our burning desire to see a really good Dredd movie [and then, by extension other 2000AD movies] get made.

I'm actually thinking that this will end up as being quite a decent and watchable hardcore futuristic sci-fi action flick [just like the Escape from New York nod]; I just dont know if it's going to be the Judge Dredd movie that we've waited for.

I get the feeling we'll be thinking that a mix of the 2 movies would have been the best Dredd film. The more extravagant city, the bikes/vehicles, and some elements of the uniforms from Stallone's (the smaller sized helmet in particular), with Urban's (presumably) much more faithful take on the character.

Ever since I followed the production of this film(its cost, script, etc.,), I've been keeping healthy expectations of what to expect in terms of scope and the kind of epic it could be. I'm going to hold Dredd to the standard of modest, but crafty action films like Blade, Kick-Ass, Sin City, Predators, and District 9, as opposed to mega-budgeted comicbook adaptations like The Dark Knight, or Watchmen.

So far, it does give a vibe that the people involved in Dredd are being very crafty with the certain amount of resources they have. I think it's very appropriate that they use a film like Escape From New York as a model, not only because of the basic plot, but also because John Carpenter did so much with that film with little!

You know whats wrong with that helmet is that it doesn't really fit with the rest of the costume. That helmet is very comic booky with a bright red color which is really popping off the screen and then the rest of the costume is so bland. As if Nolan had a black armor suit on Batman with that blue cowl he's known for. However if the movie is really good I might get over it.
