As divided as The Last Jedi was, even the stupidest guy in the industry knows opening against one of those movies is a suicidal move.
I thought we could spit in the giants eye.
It has done great. But this is probably pushing your luck.To be fair, Jumanji 2 opened against TLJ and still did big box office bucks.

SW Ep 9 will 'recover' (if that was needed, but that's a different story, based on people's panic about near Box Office return of $1.3 Billion not being enough) based on JJ's return and the simple fact of a trilogy's conclusion.
Jumanji 3 will still do block's in line with it's budget but I'm not so sure it'll repeat this one's success, plus would it be a returning cast or a new Jumanji game style approach as was the first to reflect the times we exist in.
After Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle gave Star Wars: The Last Jedi a run for its money in December and has become the highest grossing non-Spider-Man hit that Sony Pictures has generated in forever, the studio has started the process toward the inevitable next installment. Sony Pictures is in talks with Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner to write a sequel that will reunite Dwayne Johnson with Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan and the rest of the ensemble.
