Action-Adventure 'Jungle Cruise' Movie starring The Rock and Emily Blunt

That and it didn’t perform as well opening weekend as they wanted so he wouldn’t have made that much more.

Disney's record with original live action films is spotty at best. Both in terms of critic response and box office. I was concerned this would be DOA so I'm happy its near $100 million. If Disney was expecting much more from the opening weekend they were deluding themselves.

Translation - The Rock's salary is guaranteed.
Possibly, but Rock doesn't really strike me as a paycheck focused actor.

This movie’s weekend box office was one Johnson’s personal best. So yeah, he probably has a different standard than most actors. Lol

Really? I don't see a bunch of low budget indie dramas in his IMDB listing.

Now it could be a strategic move, with Mr. Johnson deciding that the potential blowback from a lawsuit wouldn't benefit him all that much. And it is better long term for him to remain as America's most beloved film star than risk his standing on a public squabble. Also, his earning potential going forward is much higher than the Disney Three, so he can more easily shake off a hit to his paycheck.

But my best guess is Dwayne got paid.

It's impossible to say unless we see the details of his contract. He might have been offered a cut of the D+ sales. Who knows?

There's also a good chance he just got paid up front for this movie and didn't have the box office angle that Scarlett had with Black Widow.

Yeah he probably got a fixed salary rather than some backend percentage.

I will be curious to see what this does in the 2nd weekend. Will this see another over 65% drop like Black Widow?

I think the big difference is Johnson probably had a more realistic idea of the BO potential, and tailored his contract accordingly. Its fairly clear that ScarJo expected a billion dollar movie, as it appears that her deal is dependent on the box office hitting certain benchmarks, and not just a deal off the bo revenue.

The movie has some issues, but I really liked it overall. I will say though the one thing that kind of got me was,

The romance. Maybe I just can't take the Rock seriously as a romantic lead in one of these. But the pair felt more like two buddies and all their romantic scenes just feel forced.

I think the most interesting thing here is out of everyone involved with these films, the Rock is probably the biggest "movie star". He has multiple successes without proper brand names.

I honestly don't much care about this movie and I likely won't watch it until it is free on D+. But I am rooting for it to succeed. I mean....I want to see the BO and our world situation to get better so I can enjoy awesome films this year.

I haven't seen it yet, but I think I will. It sounds like a throwback to those fun, popcorn, adventure flicks. It doesn't need to be great; just entertaining and funny. both Emily and The Rock are both quite entertaining personalities.

And they are here.

It is 100% Pirates meets the Mummy. If you liked those, you will like this one.

Probably true; although Blunt has had her share of successes also. Anyway, they are both rather charismatic people and I'm looking forward to a fun movie.

He is being very literal about those comparisons. Like they were both on TV the weekend they had to crack the story.
I liked Brendan Fraser's run. He disappeared rather abruptly. If they'd made a Shazam back then, he would have been great.
