I'm a bit of a cartoon fan, although recently their has been a lot of stuff that I don't care for (Edd, Edd and Eddie, and Camp Laslo come to mind.) I've notice that a while back two cartoons on different channels with almost the same plot.
Juniper Lee and Jake long both have a main character who fights magical creatures with powers inherited from a grandparent, and they both have a talking Shar Pie dog. I won't argue who came first, because I think Jake Long did, but I'd like to argue which is better.
I do like the fact that both shows try to create oriental characters who are still America, but I think that Juniper Lee does a beter job of it. To me Jake Long comes across as a Vanilla Ice... a wanna be rapper, and it's just annoying. While as Juniper is not trying to be someone she's not. I also like the art on Juniper better it seems smoother and less choppy especially since the quality of the art in Jake Long went down in the second season. While it was nice to see Jake's dragon form looking more like an oriental dragon and less like Trogdor the burrninator, the overall look was not an improvement.
Now to go on the dogs. Monroe and Fuu-Dog... For some reason Fu dog, who isn't a Fu dog at all (fu dogs look more like lions). Fu dog is 600 years old, but he speaks with an American Accent, Monroe similarly anchient, speaks with a Scottish accent. Despite the fact that neither accent is really appropriate for a Dog with Chinese origins, Monroe's just seems to work better.
I've watched both shows, and basically it comes down to this, I enjoy Juniper Lee, and can't sit through Jake Long. I was wondering if anyone else wanted to share their oppinions of these two similar shows.
