Jurassic Park IV - Part 1

It's kinda hard to reboot Jurassic Park when it's fairly timeless. Who cares if it's not a direct adaptation of the book. Let the two entities live on, and complement each other. It's like wanting to reboot Blade Runner and make it more like "Do Androids Dream of Electronic Sheep". Who cares?

That being said, with Jurassic Park 4, there's a chance that Universal can pull a 'Fast 5' and make a later sequel...good. But the problem with the franchise is that the first one was when the non-adventurous characters unexpectedly fell into this big adventure, where as Lost World and JP3 the characters were pro-actively seeking out trouble.

I'm sure we'll have a reboot (or remake) one day. Could be in a few years from now, could be a few decades from now, using real trained cloned dinosaur "actors".

Yes, good point. They could go down the age old JP4 concept of dinosaur carcasses washing up on beaches and a team studying the disease, which can transfer to humans as well. I think that could be interesting. Something serious enough where a expedition is necessary.

It wasn't just a rumor. An entire script was written. The script review on LR was actually pretty positive. I for one think it is a good idea. None of these sequels will capture the heart or wonder of the original, so why not try making a big budget B-movie? That is all that the sequels have been. They have been B-movies that refuse to embrace it. I say why not embrace it and run with it?

I wouldn't mind this franchise to be left alone. But the fact we got the Apes guys is a good sign.

I enjoy JP2/JP3 for what they were, but I cant help but be disappointed in them, especially TLW. The book was great, and the movie was...well. Not.

I've always been torn on a remake/reboot of the first, however.

I actually prefer the movie over the book. I liked the book, but it just seemed to me that, "They get to the island, some **** happens, (not very significant **** I might add) and they leave.

It didn't feel as substantial and large as it could have been. The movie took a bigger and better direction where it drew the attention of more people than just Dodson and Biosyn and significant and crucial **** went down that put in danger a lot more people for their curiosity and corporate greed. More people died as a result. There was more tampering which continued the theme of the series.

Not to mention, the same thing pretty much happens to Malcolm in the third act like the first book. He gets wounded and is high off of pain medication and is pretty much non existent for the rest of the book, which was disappointing.

I'm pretty much always gonna go with The Lost World over JP3 any day of the week.

The quotient of stupidity is higher in TLW whereas characters are goofier in JP3. I'll take JP3. It's harmless in its own way. But doesn't promise the return to form like TLW did and that **** is disappointing. And while the movie might have taken a bigger direction with the plot, it's themes weren't all that great. "Hey let's make a movie about mainland seeing a dinosaur." How was that any different from people seeing dinosaurs in JP? It wasn't. The book went in and dealt with Extinction and why was it important.

I dont really agree with that. Yes, the movie added more characters to the island, but it also brought the attention of Levine, who brought the attention to Malcolm, Thorne, Carr, Benton, Sarah and Kelly. Plus, all the characters (sans malcolm) are idiots. Pure idiots. Eric may have screamed his way in to many people's feelings of annoyance, but at least he wasn't an idiot (other than going on the island in the first place )

That's one of the main things that irritates me about TLW. I don't like a single character, except malcolm.

I agree. That's something JP4 needs to deal with. The extinction of these creatures.

What kind of ludicrous plot can they think of where any character would even remotely want to do anything with the dinosaurs based on the previous 3 events?

Not to mention after living in a world where dinosaurs have been a reality for at least 20 years you'd think infrastructures would be in place to deal with them.

If only they didn't screw up J3 so bad they're could have been a decent trilogy.

I know that and I'm fine with remakes and reboots 99% of the time. However I do think it is an insult to a film that is highly regarded. I've never heard bad word of mouth until I came on here and most of the complaints seem to be adaption issues or the characters making dumb decisions. What does Malcom go on and on about in the film? Chaos theory and life finding a way and that something always goes wrong and that Hammond has no respect for the power he wields. The rest of the movie are these ideas coming to reality. Of course Hammond is going to make dumb decisions. Hes an eccentric billionair. Ellie is rational except when under stress. Grant performs well considering. The children can **** off lol. Hate them.

This is a Spielberg film and it is a film that blew minds with its special effects and wonder. I'm not oblivious to the flaws but I am also not oblivious to the films achievements. This is a film that doesn't need a remake or reboot.

Oh and the Lost World is very close to being **** so I prefer to ignore it. JP3 well its a decent time killer and spinosaurus is awesome so I can forgive it. Honestly I wish they could come up with a follow up to JP that ignores both Lost World and JP3.

Don't think of it as remake/reboot of the original think of it as remake of the entire franchise. Same as the new RoboCop, the first was enjoyable but the sequels/TV series didn't do well.

Now they have the opportunity to do something where they know they have 3 potential films to play with. Just like Jaws and Jurassic Park, sequels were never thought of or planned out better so that contributes to disappointing sequels. Now they can setup BioSyn as the villain for three films if they wanted. Have a conspiracy, or a virus or plan out all the islands that InGen bought and mention them.

Nice to hear JP4 is on the works again. I hope they come up with a good story and if it makes it to filming stage for it to turn out better then 3rd film.

I used to think that The Lost World was pretty underrated, then I watched it for the first time in a long time fairly recently and I was disappointed to find out it's actually pretty bad. :/

I know this is a common misconception, but a reboot or remake doesn't, in fact, erase the previous version from existence. The more you know.

Trying to redo something that is near perfect is about the dumbest thing you can do. The odds of it being as good or better is nearly impossible.

Now...I am fine if they reboot but do it more like the books. The books are vastly different than the first two movies. I am also fine with JP4.

I used to like Lost World better than the first but after seeing it again i was also surprised that i didn't like it as much as the first I also think the 3rd one was pretty okay as well but i am really looking forward a fourth JP film especially if it's the guys who wrote Rise of the Planet of the Apes

I really hope they don't go a "remake" route. Some movies should just be left alone and JP is one of them.

I'm just wondering what direction they can go. Dinosaurs washing up onshore dead of a "mysterious" disease would make another expedition necessary. There is only so many ways to tell the story on the same island though. They could always go a "bring the dinosaurs back to the mainland" and try a Truman Show-esque recreation which, of course, goes wrong.

I like it too. Had some good moments (in comparison to the other 2 films). The only problem was it wasn't BIG enough and didn't have enough twists and turns. It was straightforward.

I just don't see how JP4 can work after waiting so long. I imagine it'll be like Scream 4 in that it will be a quasi-reboot with ties to the original films, but how?

I like the idea of a modern diease killing the island dinos and that leads to a team going and trying to save the dinos.
