Jurassic Park IV - Part 1

The JP movies are frustrating because there's lots of things they could do that they never lift a finger toward.

Don't spend every freaking movie on an island, for one.

This movie has to be better than Transformers 4. Yes this is nothing but dinos chasing dumb people for two hours but it cant possibly be as insipid as the last two TF flicks, right?

.....Right?

I just want them to try to have a plot. I'll settle for that.

With Spielberg's involvement I am less worried. If he reigns in his director and doesn't let him do dumb stuff and the script doesn't get tweaked to hell by the studio it should be decent at least.

Maybe Grant and/or Malcolm can be in the role that John Hammond was in the first movie,They can be in a room communicating with the other characters and guiding them or something.

It brings back those original cast members&characters to be part of the story But leaving most of the action to the younger characters

Surely they have a treatment or a screenplay already developed because they need to haul ass and have this thing prepared to shoot for summer!

They already do. Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (Rise of the Apes) have been working on their draft of JP4 since last June. If they imbued some of the best elements of Rise into JP4, then I'm sold.

I think Spielberg has finally cracked the story for JP4 with these writers. Most of the time, Spielberg likes to get projects moving when there's a finished script he likes. I'm sure he, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are offering the gig to potential directors now. Once they get him or her, they're fast-tracking this b**ch.

I was always frustrated that Spielberg wasted his talents on making the JP films so story-less. He is one of the greatest directors of all time and he just makes the movies about dinos chasing people.

Indeed, the plot is integral. I've said it before in the JP thread, but if they could somehow cobble together a plot that focused on the time before the original JP, with espionage and such between InGen and BioSyn competing with one another to create dinosaurs, etc - I think that would be pretty cool. It wouldn't be the typical dinosaurs on the loose eating people routine.

Corporate sabotage maybe? What better way to make your competition's park fail than to sabotage it.

Yeah..anything but a retrend of the first film. And what made the first film special was the cast: They all had chemistry and you cared for them. Meanwhile I could give two poops about the characters in the sequels. So I hope Amanda and Rick nailed down the characters in JP4.

Agreed.

Sure, they can do it more in depth, but dinosaurs hitting the mainland has been covered enough for my tastes with the T-Rex rampaging around San Diego. The other films had excuses for people going back to the island where they run around and everything goes wrong. I don't know where a fourth movie can go. Another rescue operation? It's not like people would be ignorant of the island and just stumble along it any more either. I don't think a Survivor type game show on the island would work that great either.

I liked Vince Vaughn&Richard Shieff's characters in Lost World and Juliane Moore was alright while Malcom was cool in some parts yet annoying in other parts,Grant was great in 3 and his protege was pretty cool..

But yeah first film had the best cast,I think the first is just awesome and special besides just the cast&characters though

Something a bit darker in tone, where it's revealed they went through a number of staff while constructing the park - and Hammond wanted his dream fulfilled so things went on, would be interesting. The hiring of Muldoon (recasted actor obviously) and these guys who are the next in line to take on jobs.

There could be an expansion of when we see them moving raptors around at the beginning of the first movie. Maybe raptors got out and they had to recapture them. Little incidents that happen along the way which Hammon tries to cover up or minimise, and as a result the film concludes with experts ordered to inspect the place leading into the 1993 movie. Mixed in with some corporate sabotage. It would be different, but that would be the point.

Ian Malcolm from The Lost World didn't feel like the same Ian Malcolm from Jurassic Park. It's not that he 'evolved' as a character, but the entire demeanor felt different from the Ian from the first film.

Didn't Crichton not want to do a sequel in the first place?

Eh, interesting but I don't like the idea of a prequel, especially since so many tend to be boring given we know where things end. Maybe a new park could be developed with a similar premise to the one you described. I like the idea of a corporate espionage type of thing.

Hate me, but I think JP needs as little plot as possible - and I'm not one to often say such things! But when it comes to JP, there's one reason I'm here: Dinosaurs. If they make some kind of plot or character arc that is supposed to be more central and interesting than the dinosaurs, then they are doing it wrong. A simple survival story is pretty much all they need, though perhaps with a more complex backdrop, unless they wanna try on something big, epic and ambiguous, but that has a big potential to fail..

I just wanna watch a pack of dromaeosaurus hunt, a t-rex roar, or simply a diverse herd of herbivores chillin' on the fields..

Btw, we should totally have a JP forum now!

I would definitely use the 13 year time gap for the story. It's enough time to go by where things start to happen again.

Agreed. Perhaps someone has returned to the island and illegally made new dinosaur species in the abandoned lab facilities in the meanwhile?

I'd use corporate sabotage. But to the point by using this 13 year time gap where Ingen is completely gone and the dinosaurs are either dying or are just up to grabs with no ownership. The Costa Rican government would have to have a say. Maybe they even blew up the island.

But if they are using surviving or dying dinosaurs Corporations across the globe are competing to obtain them for their own ends. I'd be cool if by the end of the film, it's discovered that the extinction is causing a global virus, leading to a next film.

I could see Jessica Chastain in a Jurassic Park film as a scientist or corporate kind of character.

I wished they did the old script with the dino's with armor fighting drug dealer script.

Forgive me but wasn't it stated in one of the films the Dinosaurs wouldn't be able to survive for very long due to some sort of chemical or protein that the scientist had to give them?
