Jurassic World - Part 10

So did anyone else see The Nostalgia Critic/Doug Walker's review of the movie? In my opinion, that was one of the most biased, pointless, knee jerk, and poorly done reviews I've seen in a while. It was just 20 minutes of him wangsting over the movie (and I generally like him and his content, but he really missed the mark this time).

He jumped the gun, he should have waited until the Blu-ray before reviewing it. I agreed with some of what he had to say and disagreed with a lot, but he did rave on and on about the T-Rex vs. I-Rex fight. It was cool, but it wasn't as great as he's making it out to be.

I like looking at bad reviews sometimes. While ignoring the fan reviews on RT, because spoilers, I noticed this one:

1/2. Utterly predictable. Had everything figured out within the first 5 minutes. Bored out of my mind for 2 hours

Sounds like that person doesn't like dinosaurs. When I read reviews like this, it sounds like they didn't even care to go in the first place. Of course the trailers already set up the story. Unless these people try and come off like geniuses, because they totally know what's going to happen.

^ Since critics watch a lot of movies and since most movies are based on a few rough outlines, the ability to predict a plot should not even be a criterion to evaluate any movie, that's just dumb. What matters is the execution of that plot. (which is what readers of the review want to know.)

meh, taste is subjective. I enjoyed this more than either avengers movie.
I can't remember having more fun in a movie. I've battled (and beaten) generalized anxiety in earlier years. The last 25 minutes of the movie had my heart pounding so hard that I had to pull my mind from the movie, and focus on my breathing to calm back down.

Ending with the T Rex was just perfect. I get all the complaints, I hear them, and I see them as all legitimate. But it's too trivial for me (and evidently most everyone else) because nostalgia, dinosaurs, childhood. Call it being simple minded, and I'll laugh at the irony of such a claim regarding myself. Taste is subjective.

Everyone and their mothers loved the movie. And people had a blast watching it. Based on that, it was a great movie. Standards are also subjective.

I really wish Ultron were as bad@ss and fearsome as Indominus Rex. I like James Spader's performance as Ultron but he just lacks that intimidating factor that iRex has in JW. It would've made AOU so much better imo.

I like this movie. There's only a few things I don't like about this, how dumb park employees are. The one who let the Indominous Rex out of his paddock, all because he was to fat to outrun it using the farther exit. God I hated that character willing to risk the lives of everyone in the park to save his own. The guard at the raptor paddock opening the back of the vehicle to save his own butt while putting the two young children at risk really pissed me off too. Hey let's put other people in danger to save one's own ass!!

It took a while for Bryce Dallas Howard to find her character, when she finally did she was good.

The first guy did close the doors but Owen was narrowly able to make it through & then the I-Rex smashed the door before it fully closed. In his case, I'll give him a break because he did break for it as soon as she appeared & didn't really hesitate to close the door, the I-Rex just had it all planned out too good. But the second guy? I absolutely agree & on my second viewing I was way more pissed...I understand wanting to get away & survive but that still doesn't mean you endanger the kids.

I think it's certain that none of those movies will come close to reaching Jurassic World. Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if it ends up beating Terminator for the July 4th weekend.

Same thing I was thinking. Ant-Man, we all know is most likely to take the #1 spot, whether it lasts or not. But Terminator doesn't look like it offers anything new. I was excited because Arnold is returning but each time I've seen the trailer I just find myself bored. Definitely wouldn't be surprised if JW beats it on that weekend.

Bet Bryce is glad she's not in it. :mnm:

Yeah, I think Pratt was a major draw. Pairing him with a nostalgic property that appeals to kids and this is what you get. Now imagine if he and Tatum realyl do go ahead with that Akroyd Ghostbusters project!
Is that a joke or are they really in with a chance of all being in that?!

Agreed it's subjective, but I think the difference between the two is that maybe AoU's flaws are a little more evident as it was trying to be more ambitious. JW doesn't try to be anything more than a popcorn flick. As I've said before it has more in common with Jaws than it does Jurassic Park, as far as the plotline is concern. The whole plot is a total non-sequitur to the others as there's no reason anyone would have reopened the park.

Is Pratt a big reason for this doing so well? I mean I love Pratt but you could replace him here with 100 other actors I like and it wouldn't make much difference to me. I'd actually prefer a character given more of a scientific background (like the originals) or a hunter type (like Muldoon and Roland) rather than an all out action man that we've seen before too many times. The dinos and the park itself did most of the work for me, although I'll certainly be happy to see Pratt in the sequel and am happy to see him raising his profile ever further. Really hope he lands that Indy role, could really nail that IMO.

My take is that Pratt does indeed make a difference. JW would have done well with someone else, but his presence draws enough people to more than offset his cost....which is probably a little higher than most others.

Hey mods what are the chances of a Jurassic Park sub-forum: Jurassic World, Jurassic World Sequels, Jurassic Park III, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park?

Yes, it was one of the projects that was leaked in the Sony hack. More names have been attached to it since then, so it seems like they're moving ahead with it.

That would be pretty awesome.

I'd heard of the project but didn't know those guys were linked. Cool if they're in (although I'll be there either way).

And he is still a relative newcomer. In 4/5 years he could be absolutely huge, as big as a young Harrison Ford.

I'd love that. Will never get bored of dinosaurs. I'm as fascinated by them as when I was a kid.

I saw this a couple days ago

Pros - It was a lot of fun, I genuinely enjoyed spending my time watching this. I wish TMNT / Transformers etc, would have been this much fun.

Chris Pratt - I thought he was awesome in the role.

Scenery was great - it actually felt like the park was very believable and could be something you could visit.

Indominous Rex - It was really badass - I do wonder what they do in the second movie, too make something seem more fearsome than it.

Cons - the CGI, I hope with the success of this movie, it means a much larger budget for the CGI in the next installment, too really improve a lot of the flaws of this one. At certain times it took me right out of the movie.

Some of the scenes were just...hilarious. e.g.
When the "raptor" shows up too team up with the t-rex and the music actually changes

My other complaints - are stupidity of character, but without the stupidity of the characters I don't think this movie would be as fun, so I'm kind of stuck, and this is one of the things I really enjoyed about the original, was there characters didn't really come off as stupid. The raptors had hunted muldoon using their usual tactics, the t-rex broke out of his cage when there were people there, Arnold (samuel L jackson) died because he didn't think about the power going out at the raptor compound etc, relatively easy too make mistakes.

The othe part I loved about JP 1 & TLW, was the size of the t-rex. They didn't really make me feel how massive the I-Rex was, there's something always about the scene where you see the foot step, and the mud pushes under neath that is just so impressive too me. I didn't feel "size" wise too be impressed.

Overall I'd rate it a 7.5 or 8 out of 10. So, even though I have complaints, they aren't bad enough too hold this movie back.

I may feel the same. We shall see.

A few scenes aside, I don't really think the dinosaurs in this movie were really executed that well. Part of that was the quality of the effects themselves, part of it was the design (everything's blue and grey!) and part of that was just a lack of presentation. The film's attitude towards its dinosaurs was absolutely as bored and moribund as the in-universe attitude it was trying to criticize. The criticism fails because it almost never overcomes it itself.

There were a few moments I enjoyed here and there but overall I wasn't much for the movie. Glad other folks enjoy it more though.

6/10

That guy was a security officer on INGEN's payroll. I don't think it was out of of character, as the kids were the least of his concern.

exactly those security guys in the part with the raptors were just mercs, mercs are rarely portrayed as having a conscious.

They didn't give two ****s about the people at the park, they were just going in to get paid.

Damn, Tuesday box office went up! Another $13m added to domestic.
