Jurassic World - - Part 11

So now we're gonna get a wave of dinosaur/giant monster/Chris Pratt movies :oldrazz:

$614 million domestic. Wow. Never thought that'd happen. I was hoping for $400-ish.

I thought $300 million domestic - tops. :funny:

Maybe they should have just called this "Marvel World".

Number 3 WW now.

Overall, it has a good chance of passing Titantic.

Comparing JW to The Avengers after 6 weeks, JW made 610m and TA made about 550m. TA went on to make about 75m more and JW would need about 50m to beat Titantic, so it looks doable.

That would be incredible achievement indeed.

Edit: I am still amazed that few people claim that Star Wars will earn even more, let's see if it happens, though I don't think see that happening.

I agree. Star Wars 7 will perform abut as well as Ep 1 or Ep 3, IMO.

Jurrasic World had tremendous legs and very little competition. While Star Wars won't have summer-type competition, I don't see it having the legs and I also don't think it will be as universally relatable/enjoyable among so many ages as Jurassic World.

Star Wars will do great business but won't come close to touching Jurassic World. Mighty funny after JW was released people start saying SW will do these numbers when no one was making such claims before. Disney is just being competitive by saying they can gross that much, but it's not going to happen & they know better.

December releases have notoriously long legs. Star Wars will still be making money in February. It may make more money domestically in the long run.

No offence, but what the hell are you people talking about? We are talking about Star Wars here. It is the definition of a universal fun for all ages blockbuster franchise. Like literally - it began modern era of blockbuster filmmaking. I cannot understand how you can think that the Jurassic Park series can have a wider audience. Both series have pretty much the same audiences, they are Lucas/Spielberg blockbusters after all. Have you not seen the respective response the trailers for Jurassic World and Episode 7 got? The second teaser for Episode 7 has got pretty much universal love. If the movie is good, it easily cold have the legs to outperform Jurassic World. Its release is better timed and its marketing is already getting a more positive response. If Abrams has created something magical, it could compete with Titanic for the number 2 spot worldwide.

I think more people like watching dinosaurs than Star Wars characters and I also think that the prequel grosses stand as a good indicator of how much money the new ones will make.

Well, at least they are bringing back Howard and Pratt for the completely necessary sequel.

I don't see Star Wars beating JW domestically but overall I see it grossing more.
I'm hurt Spidey. Wounded. :csad:

I still say it's doubtful. I'm aware of the brand & the popularity it has, and I know it'll make good money. But it won't make Jurassic World money.

Again, people are only making these over exaggerations because of the success of Jurassic World, which was not something that was predicted, even by those behind it.

I feel the success of Jurassic World shows how much of an impact these old properties can have on the box office, and Star Wars has a bigger recognition with everyone in the world, so I feel it will be bigger than Jurassic World.

600 million is not an easy number to hit, you think two films are going to do that in the same year? I don't see such a thing happening.

Star Wars would bleed into early 2016. And yes, I believe it. Its Star Wars and the return of the original trio.

Don't take this wrong way honey but you can't see the forest through the trees when it comes to Star Wars.:funny:

I thinking something in the 500 millions, which would be amazing.

I can see the forest, because I learned how to climb trees. :oldrazz:

Is it guaranteed? No. But I think there is reason everything is running away/avoiding Star Wars (Rogue Nation, Kung Fu Panda, BvS, Warcraft) and we have already seen many legit site legitimately talking $2bil. Disney and Lucasfilms are rolling it out brilliantly, and starting September 4th Star Wars will be everywhere.

T-minus 10 minutes until you bring up Guardians of the Galaxy.:oldrazz:

Um I'm counting on massive international numbers to win the day. And no I'm not saying that 600+mil is impossible I just think it's very, very unlikely. I agree that the marketing so far has been great which is why I think it's going to be a huge smash.

Have to agree with ISS, although I'm projecting $400-$450 million domestically. But yeah, no way it hits $600 million. If JW keeps going at this pace it could even best Titanic domestically. You think Star Wars is going to do that too?

Nah.

I get that SW is a huge property but people are making the same mistake we all made before AoU came out.

Me bring up GotG? Never. :o

Star Wars seems to have clean sailing for 7 weeks at least. So if it is good, I think it could domination for a good 2 months.

AoU is something entirely different. One of the reason I have high hopes for Star Wars in terms of box office, is that it isn't a comic book movie. It has the same things going for it that JW had, except it has far more brand awareness. It is Star Wars, returning, potential triumphantly, after the prequels. Han Solo is back.

And taking Titanic is going to happen, though we can thank inflation for that. :cwink:

Let's archive this argument for December/January and see who's right. :o
