Jurassic World - - Part 11

Me bring up GotG? Never. :o

Star Wars seems to have clean sailing for 7 weeks at least. So if it is good, I think it could domination for a good 2 months.

AoU is something entirely different. One of the reason I have high hopes for Star Wars in terms of box office, is that it isn't a comic book movie. It has the same things going for it that JW had, except it has far more brand awareness. It is Star Wars, returning, potential triumphantly, after the prequels. Han Solo is back.

And taking Titanic is going to happen, though we can thank inflation for that. :cwink:

Star Wars will likely finish around or slightly higher than AoU. Again, I'm aware of those several things you and others have pointed out numerous times but that's still not going to carry this movie to $2 billion or to beat the same records JW did.

I am curious, what are you basing this on? Just for comparison, TPM is the 6th all time domestically at the box office, unadjusted. Adjusted, it made $733m without any premium formats. That was what a bad Star Wars return did. A return that didn't involve the original trio.

Oh believe me if Darth is right he will rub it in my face and remind me of what I wrote.

So I saw the news about a sequel today not a surprise there was no way they where going to want a long time before the next one like they did with 3 to world with how much money this movie has made but I hope it is good. Jurassic park was part of my childhood being 4 when it came out and I thought Jurassic world was really good but I just don't see where this franchise can go story wise that is not a disaster and like Jp3 all over again. I just fell like the franchise has run its course.

So today, my father and I took my mother to see this movie. Here's the story, though. She's dying of liver disease, and has been in and out of hospitals and rehab facilities more times in the past couple of years than she's been home. This year has been spent almost entirely in hospitals or healthcare centers of some sort, fighting off terrible, painful, debilitating side effects of the disease, up to and including terrible dementia caused by ammonia in the blood stream.

But this week, she has been doing phenomenally well and wanted so bad to just come out for the day and be with us and see a movie. She has been pushing herself hard in her physical therapy to be able to walk again (hasn't been able to walk in over a month due to issues affecting her legs) because of how badly she wanted to prove to the people their and to us that she is strong enough to come out and around for a day. So we took her to see this movie (which I already loved).

Now usually in the past, she sleeps through movies, but this one, she was sitting forward and wide-eyed the entire time, fully engaged and excited and really, really into it. She held my hand for most of it and frequently looked to me with a grin at really big parts. She was like a kid seeing Santa Claus for the first time, and I can't remember seeing her in this great shape in a long, long time. It was absolutely magical, and to see her this amazed at a movie was very moving for me. Things have been so bad for so long, it was just so wonderful to see her like this.

And after the movie, she couldn't stop talking about how much she loved it, how she loved the dinosaurs and the exciting scenes, and the big moments near the end. It was fantastic.

Now she has seen a lot of genre movies in the past, some she's liked and some she hasn't (didn't really care for JP3 at all), but her reaction today really cements with me the reason this movie does well. I completely understand why some people don't like it, but it seems to really resonate so strongly because for most, it's just so utterly FUN. It's not so rapid paced as to prevent people from enjoying it (3), and despite what people say, the characters are not entirely forgettable. At least not the main ones, the ones that count. Maybe due to the screen charisma of those main characters, but they work for a lot of people. And dinosaurs! Dinosaurs done really, really well and in exciting ways.

I was a big fan of this movie to begin with, but after today, not knowing how much longer I'll have with her, I think JW has gone down in my book as being a very, very special kind of blockbuster movie. And I just couldn't be happier seeing it succeed in the ways it has.

Star Wars is definitely going to have a $200 million weekend in December - barring some kind of severe weather event. It's going to be huge. Gifts and taking people to this flick will go hand in hand. It won't break the record, but it will definitely finish up with a massive total, assuming it doesn't get panned to hell. Star Wars is the kind of thing I'll see 3 times if it's mediocre and probably ten times if it's really good. I think most fans are like that too. I seriously don't think you could have more hype than that, it's a franchise with fans in every age bracket. If it's not one of the top 10 highest-grossing films ever made, I'll be surprised. It's going to finish well above $500 million though which would be impressive. Weaker domestic legs as it goes on, but the international spike will bring the total higher.

Wow I don't really now what to say but I am sorry to here about your mom and I really hope some how things change and she gets better will pray for you. I am glad you got to have a great time with her at the movie though sounds like a special day you had. Thinks for the story!

Boggles my mind how they never had her change out of her heels at any point in the film. I remember hearing people in the audience lightly chuckling when she was running from the T-Rex (that 2nd gif) and realized she still had her heels on.

I loved that they kept her in heels...

So this movie turned out to be a very fun ride. I like the fact that they included a lot of nods to the original film and also used pieces of the same musical score. This definitely felt like a true sequel to JP. I'm not sure how they can proceed with this franchise without it feeling recycled, but who knows? Maybe they can come up with something.

8/10

Beautiful. Thanks for sharing. I sincerely hope for the best for you & your family.

We can all be a little too cynical about movies these days (I know I'm guilty of this), but it only takes someone like your mother to remind us that movies are supposed to be fun (depending on the subject matter)- this applies to both the viewer & the filmmakers.

I haven't ever found it to be a big deal, especially considering Bryce was the one who suggested keeping the heels on. In a crisis, is someone really going to think "oh, let me stop and change my shoes"? Nah haha

I thought it was her way of toughing it out .
"See"? "I don't even have to change my shoes !"

Most people sprint on their toes. Not their heels. It's biomechanically faster then sprinting rearfoot or so I've read. So a person who is very used to wearing heels and sprints like most human beings could probably sprint a short distance without breaking a heel.

Gonna have to agree with Lorus and SpitCurl. I enjoyed Jurassic World, but it was THAT good. A good popcorn summer blockbuster, but that's about all for me. I actually enjoyed Age of Ultron more.

Man, I honestly feel disgusted making this argument because it really over-simplifies why being a "crowd-pleaser" isn't an indication of quality, but...

McDonalds. Taco-Bell. Pizza Hut.

All INSANELY POPULAR and profitable businesses/brands, and all in no way, shape, form or fashion the bar at which you should settle for quality. If you like any of those places, great. I'm not a snob by any means, and if that's all you know (or have been exposed to), then no one should reasonably expect or be offended that you didn't care for Nightcrawler, or that Inside Out wasn't the number 1 movie last week (or that Fury Road wasn't basically the number 1 movie until Inside Out debuted) but, that being said, "it's popular so it must be good on some level" is an equally weak argument.

Slavery was popular for a very long time. As were the banning of mixed-race and same-gender marriages. What's popular isn't always an indicator of what is good (or just).

I agree with you that the movie isn't the greatest thing ever, but man it's not THAT serious (especially considering I'm black).

Holy ****, I can't believe someone would make a comparison like that.
