Hoskins should have been left out. That whole subplot was shoehorned in unnecessarily and he was so one-note and mustache-twirling. Sone people complain about the kids, he was way more dumb and annoying.

Also, the Claire character honestly did feel slightly sexist. She can't be a high powered woman without being a ridiculously uptight shrew who needs a hunky man's man to help her loosen up.

It wasn't really a small part, though. It was meant to be the main conflict of the movie, outside of the Indominous. Everything about it was stupid, though.

You may be right, but it somehow felt like it was background to me. Easy enough to ignore because I was so caught up in the thrill ride.

I'll spoiler-tag this just in case.
Were we supposed to like Masrani? I did at first, but by his final scene, I couldn't tell.

The raptor squad worked far better than I anticipated it would. It held some sense of realism within a completely ridiculous idea. Their relationship with Owen, specifically one, I thought was charming but not overdone.

That was one of the most pleasantly surprising things about the movie. When I first saw Pratt on the motorcycle surrounded by Raptors I was 50% excited, 50% worried. I think they pulled it off perfectly.

Agreed. Waste of D'onofrio and a waste of scren time.

I liked him, which was unexpected. I thought he'd be the typical corporate money-hungry scum bag, but he wasn't. He had concern for the dinos, morals, the park attendees, and Hammond's legacy.

Just curious, what did you people think about Godzilla (2014) in comparision to this movie?

I had way more fun watching this than Godzilla. The characters were annoying here, but at least they weren't uptight like the ones in Godzilla. That movie took itself way too seriously.

I thought the movie was fantastic!

However, I don't know how they could make a sequel. Like who would seriously try to make a park again?
I do however really wish that if there is a sequel Pratt returns and I would love to have Joseph Mazzello return as well.

OR...it might have been all the dying and mayhem and her nephew's lives that were in danger than snapped her out of her high-strung ways.

The "Star-Lord rides to the rescue with his Raptor posse" was one of those things that could have been awesome or really silly.

In movie, it didn't bother me at all. They developed the concept of it plausibly, IMO, and they didn't go overboard making the Raptors too tame.

LOL @ JP3 plot details: "Idiot tourists get into an accident because they're idiots."

I'm gonna write a review shortly but damn did I enjoy that! :D There are a couple of issues for me but overall it was the film I was hoping it would be.

Brospeh, man you are gonna love it! :mnm:

Will be going to see it in a little over an hour and I'm pumped. Will be back with my thoughts. :D

- Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
- Max

- Fantastic 4
- Everest

Characterisation is a big problem with JW. Take this scene for instance

Bryces character, after being a total self involved, corporate stooge for 50% of the film all of a sudden sees a dying dino and cries over it. Umm no, that's not how it works.

What are you talking about? She is presented to be at least human and any human who sees an animal dying in confusion and agony will hopefully have that reaction. It is actually very believable that this is her finally seeing the animals as more than attractions.

It's an unambigously flawed movie with some unnecessary and/or ridiculous concepts, yet the execution is surprisingly good enough to elevate it beyond the sum of its parts. Personally I had a great ride with this.

You say why not?. I say because people don't change who they are at the flip of a switch. You change through many years of getting older, learning from mistakes. She changed in a split second. Look at the grant character from the first movie. He hated kids, didn't want any of his own, thought they were just annoying. By the end of the movie he had become very nurturing. He still was a bit reserved but he made some progress. And even then he still had no kids of his own. That's the point. He grew a little as a person but he didn't change completely. That's actual human progression. That's why we cared about these people. In JW everyone was a cliche. Starlord was the charming mans man. The denofrio character might as well have been twirling his evil moustache. Bryce character changed at the drop of a hat and the kid had mummy daddy issues and the teen just wanted to get laid. Even if that meant flirting with every chick he saw, despite having a GF back home. Im not rooting for people written so thin and non interesting

Please do not bring Jurassic Park 3 and its awful ruination of Alan Grant's character arc as an example.

People can change in grave hardship. I don't know if you recall this but John Hammond went from capitalist with a dream to a naturalist in the span of a day in Jurassic Park after the dinosaurs broke free and ate his employees and tried to eat his grandkids. They even make that a sticking point in the sequel if you want that.

....I mean if you don't like the movie fine. But this seems like a really silly point.

Saying characters can only change over years would seem to suggest that no movie, including the first film which is contrary to your argument, should have character arcs.

There's fun to be had in watching JW, but I don't agree with this.

See, people griping about the trained raptors beforehand can be politely shut up now, as they acted about as realistically as a predatory animal who had been semi-reared by humans in the real world would. They'll submit because they imprinted, but they're not docile.
