They did make the i-Rex something to fear by being such an effective, unstoppable killing machine. But I also felt sympathy for it too, strangely. How Owen described it being in isolation its whole life, seeing everything for the first time. Not to mention the fact it was engineered to be a perfect predator. It's like The Ghost In The Darkness, where the lions go on a killing spree.

And by it attacking and killing the other dinosaurs it really hit our hearts. Dinosaurs usually attack other dinosaurs, but this was different. This was killing for the sake of killing. It made us appreciate and side with the 'normal' dinosaurs, which we all know and love. They were on the back foot, and they needed our support.

Yes, the i-Rex was not sure what it was as Owen said, it was trying to find it's place in the food chain and saw everyone as a threat, but then it got the taste for blood and was just indiscriminately killing anything in it's path.

This was highlighted perfectly in the finale when Blue and the team pick Owen over the i-Rex and Claire goes to get the T-Rex.

YES! :applaud

My ramblings

I thought it exceeded my expectations by a lot. I felt like a kid again watching this. I didn't expect them to capture the same feel as the original but they did for me. As much as I love Lost World this feels the like the real sequel. Chris Pratt was great and the kids weren't as annoying as I thought they would be. And that last 30 minutes was gold, GOLD, they made sure you get some badass Dino action. If there was anything I thought didn't work, it would be that divorce subplot, it never felt anything important. Overall, it's absolutely fantastic and I can't wait to see it again and again.
9.5/10

Just got back home from my showing. Wow I absolutely loved it. I knew I would and it didn't disappoint my expectations. And even being a spoilers go having known and seen some of this before going in, seeing it play out on the big screen had me so giddy. This movie is my favorite after the original :ilv: as I thought my ranking of the series is JP, JW, TLW then JP3.

This film pulled at my JP heart strings so many times and my love for this franchise. Won't lie got teary eyed a few times. From the beginning when the boys arrive on the island and we hear the classic theme and see the park, to the remains of the visitors center and the gas powered jeeps. And especially the end when
Rexy overlooking the park that part got me big time.

The kids weren't annoying to me, Kelly in TLW and Eric in JP3 still hold that crown for me as the most annoying. The divorce subplot didn't really bother me or Anything. It was just eh whatever, my parents are divorced so I can understand I guess. Loved Bryce and Pratt in this. Also really loved Masrani was
sad to see him die, and was actually pleased with Wu being the villain along with Hoskins

The dinosaurs looked wonderfully magnificent. Absolutely gorgeous, they were glorious in their scenes. The raptors in this film were awesome and that whole arc with them was very well done. My favorites raptors behind the original JP ones. Rexy looked incredible. My audience cheered and clapped twice during the finale.
once after the team up against indominus when mosa came out and grab her, and the other at the very end when Rexy did her roar over the park

The score was superb, again my favorite score since the original film. It captures so well what Williams did with the original. I really need to download it. Some other thoughts.

- Loved the raptors in the jungle scene against Ingen, very much like Aliens. Totally got that vibe and loved it.

- Indominus was incredibly well done and fierce, scary in fact. Felt much more like a threat over the Spinosaurus. Also the fact that it could
camoflauge was awesome, and it was really well done I thought. A very nice nod to TLW book with the Carnotaurus

- the pteranodon and dimorphodon scene was excellent fun and chaos

- loved getting to see the functioning park and all the rides and attractions from the boys POV etc, really great stuff.

- I really loved the scene with Claire and Owen and the Apatosaurus. Very sad scene and I thought a great homage in a way to the sick trike scene from JP. Tugged at my heart strings.

I can't gush enough how about much I thoroughly enjoyed this film and to me it is essentially the real sequel of the franchise. Like I could have a movie night and just watch JP and JW and be completely happy and content. And no I'm not someone that is ignoring the other films in the timeline, I enjoy them all. I'm just saying haha. I will stop rambling, I loved it so much. That is all :woot:

LOVED it yeah!! And I knew you'd love it mate haha. What you said about the raptors in the jungle at night being like Aliens, I totally got that vibe too, awesome stuff. Indominus really delivered. I'd be interested to know how this would have been received if it had come out back then as the 1st sequel to JP. Given how well it is doing on opening weekend at the box office I think we could be in for a
great future for this franchise. Dinos are back!

Glad to see you guys all enjoyed it! :)

I would've happily watched a complete movie of the park running smoothly with people enjoying the attractions. I loved all that. It had such a feelgood vibe. And I'm listening to the soundtrack today as well, and it's good too. The JW theme Giacchino made is a real grower.

I thought the same thing, I could go for a prequel comic at the very least lol.

Also it seems like this movie gives the middle finger so to speak to Lost World and Jurassic Park 3. Are they still canon or no?

Keep Mad Max in the Mad Max thread and this movie in its thread. They're nothing alike and have nothing to do with each other.

I think they're still canon, just not acknowledged, except for
the end when the theme from Lost World plays briefly

There's nothing in Jurassic World that contradicts the events from The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3, they're just not mentioned.

Exactly. Thanks Schlosser :)

And Hunter hell yessssss! So happy with this movie :woot:

The Jurassic franchise is back and better than ever. And as a huge fan of the franchise I am beyond overjoyed and excited :hrt:

I saw this for the second time tonight and liked it even more than the first time. Definitely my favorite JP movie behind the original. Jurassic Park 3 is still the worst in my opinion.

Yes, and they don't need to be in the context of this story. Those events weren't relevant.

I applaud Trevorrow for taking this on and doing his own thing why still paying homage and respecting the original. He did a tremendous job I think. He was passionate about it and to me it showed.

I also feel that the film did a decent job of explaining
the scientific inaccuracies
that scientists complain about

Just got back, really enjoyed it! It was a great ride, really felt like a very authentic entry into the Jurassic Park canon and I couldn't ask for much more. Pratt really pulled it off, I was a bit worried about him based on the trailers, but he really was perfect. And Bryce actually did really well too, once the ***** started hitting the fan and her character was humanized.

Overall, the characters do pale in comparison to the characters in the original, but not nearly as bad as I feared it would be. The CG was also spotty in places, as I did fear unfortunately. On the plus side, there are definitely plenty of shots that really really did look gorgeous. So it about balanced out for me. I do wish more animantronics were used for closeups, but it really wasn't a dealbreaker. Overall I'd say they did a pretty good job at putting dinos up on the screen. The movie was entertaining enough that the shots that I felt were obvious didn't bug me too much. I felt fear and tension in all the right moments.

And the movie really does start cooking with fire in the last act. I also thought this movie was perfect length-wise. Not too long, not too short. Really felt like a throwback to more old-school, Spielbergian school of blockbuster filmmaking, as it should be.

Overall, very happy with the movie and totally looking forward to a sequel.

Don't forget, the original novel had a Raptor that could camouflage, so it may have been a shout out to both. :hmr:

I'm glad they mentioned it, but I would have liked if they tried to adapt the dinosaurs a little bit, sort of how the raptors looked in JP3. I'm not a fan of feathers, but I liked how they were handled in that film.

Overall, I was kind of disappointed with the designs of the dinosaurs; outside of Blue, every dinosaur was an ugly shade of green or grey. The worst offender was the dying apatosaurus...the crummy paint job made it look especially fake.

I loved the look of all the dinosaurs in the film. Didn't think the Apatosaurs had a crappy paint job, thought they look great and that scene was really touching and sad.

Took the family to see it last night. It's right up there with JP1. Don't know exactly what it is but the kid from IM3 just annoys the living hell out of me. Even with that, I was able to look past him fairly easily. CGI was top notch. Some things in the story I didn't like and were very predictable, but overall worth the price of admission. 7.5/10 (voted 8, rounded up).

Oh, the scene was definitely touching, I just hated the design. Giving it a very human-like eye was also very distracting to me.

Carnotaurus aka Carnotaur was the one that camoflauged in TLW book. 2 Carno's if I recall.
