Just a great reminder that the original person to make this thread didnt even think about to putting a lower than 700 mill WW total, but thought to push for 2bill.
I'm still amazed that Justice League is going to end up doing worse than Thor: The Dark World. And unlike Justice League, Thor: The Dark World didn't cost $300 million to make, so it actually made a profit for Marvel, rather than losing them money the way Justice League likely lost Warner Bros. money.
The average movie audience has seen well, I cant even count the amount of superhero movies. Fantastic Four, X-Men, Superman, Spider-Man. The Marvel universe has gone nuts; were going to have a fricking Captain America movie if were not careful. Thor, too!
- Zack Snyder
All 3 MCU movies Have surpassed Wonder Woman this year.
It's crazy. If you go back several years he had other channels where he trashed nolan's bat films all day and praised marvel.Man... he's still at it?!?!
That dudes got some resilience. Too bad he can't spin for crap.
kinda defensive there, eh?Spider-man and Thor 3 have, but both had 2 popular Marvel characters.
Guardians came off an exceptionally well received first film. That is probably why they turned Thor: Ragnarok into Guardians of the Ragnarok
Wonder Woman did exceptionally well considering it came off the back of the less liked BvS (which I loved).
WW is also the biggest opening for a Superhero intro film (inflation unadjusted) and biggest female led film.
Not bad, eh?

From the same interview:"If we're not careful"? It's comments like these that boil my blood.
My mother saw I was into this comic called Heavy Metal magazine, so she got me a subscription. You could call it high-brow comics, but to me, that comic book was just pretty sexy! I had a buddy who tried getting me into normal comic books, but I was all like, No one is having sex or killing each other. This isnt really doing it for me. I was a little broken, that way. So when Watchmen came along, I was, This is more my scene.
from the same interview:
let's have this guy direct the JL! Brilliant!
He thought that the cynical, violent depiction of superheroes was the place to go for inspiration, with disastrous results.
So it really is a great example of the wrong ideas at the wrong time. He bought into the idea that certain characters are innately better and more worthy of cinematic adaptation than others, at a time when lesser-known characters are exploding into the mainstream.
And he thought that making the DC films relatively violent, dark and cynical would be a path to critical and commercial success. A lot of other people involved probably thought so, too.
You can like JL was Snyder's film. The audacity to put his name in the titles is astounding.![]()

The audacity to put someone who directed almost the entire movie in the title? How dare they!
The posts when JL was being praised on Twitter were the best. "It's Snyder's movie! They better not give Joss credit for this! This is Snyder's Justice League!!!"
Fast forward 2 months... "The audacity to put his name in the titles is astounding."
I'd edit out the gif, it has a profanity in it.
This is one of the best things I've read regarding the DCeU. Great find! There was a great Twitter thread discussing what happened and what was WB's mindset going into the DCEU, and the thing is, it makes sense on paper. As we've seen the end result was not what WB was hoping for, but yeah, back in 2012 when they were working on Man of Steel it's easy to see why they thought this would work.
They'd found mass critical acclaim and box office success in getting an auteur director to do a dark, gritty and deconstructionist take on Batman, and thought getting an auteur director to do a dark, gritty and deconstructionist take on Superman would be another home run, especially with Nolan back as a producer.
There was a really great rundown of the situation here.
