Thanks! And that's not the first Pscho Mantis comment I got on that piece. Thinking about Pyscho Mantis in the old west makes me really, really want a wild west set Metal Gear game.

Are you using a program for those? If so which one? They look good.

Thanks! Yeah, I'm using Maya for the 3D stuff. If you're a student, you can get Maya and a bunch of other great 3D programs in a bundle for $400. The one catch is that you can't use them for any commercial purposes, they're strictly for learning and portfolio purposes. (How the company knows you produced work on the student version, I have no idea. But they are very clear about users not making money off the student editions.)

I just finished up a CD cover, and I thought it would be interesting to post a my process. If you're thinking about doing any type of commission based work but are unsure of how to go about it, this post may help you out...

1. A client emails me with an idea. In this case, it was a CD cover with a zombified Ben Franklin standing in front of a post apocolyptic Philly while holding a burning copy of the Declaration of Independence. I took on the job, and submitted 4 sketches...

2. The chosen entry was #3 with the face of #1, but with the Phillies hat on. I quickly cut the two pics together to give myself a foundation to work on top of...

3. Upon approval of of the design and receiving payment, I got to work on the final image. Instead of doing another drawing, I digitally painted right on top of the sketch, using about a dozen photographic references I pulled from online, and some I took myself...

4. This was the last sketch I submitted to the client before sending him the final copy...

Man, how do you DO this?

^when you think about it, he kinda looks like robotnik... which is awesome! :D

love the gas masked figure

Thanks!

The trick is to learn form and light. If you can draw great without using shading and relying only on linework, and have a complete understanding of how light works, you can draw anything and make it look extremely realistic.

Lol true, I wouldn't be surprised if Sega looked at Ben Franklin for some influence.

I think what's really great is that you can see the improvement in just 3 years, from the start of this thread til now. :awesome:

Congrats and keep up the great work! I haven't drawn in a long time and sometimes I wonder if it's too late for me to pick it up again, but your progression is an inspiration. :yay:

Thanks! Its wild to think I started this thread only 3 years, it feels a lot longer. I'm proud now that I can do roughly 90-100% entirely from my head, even the lighting. A lot of those older pics used photoreferences.

I can guarentee that anybody, including yourself, can draw just as good, if not better than me, by focusing only on linework and then studying shading. If you can draw a great scene of just some guy walking through a forest with only lines and no shading, you're 50% there to being an incredible draftsmen. Once you learn shading and throw that in there, you are now at a point where drawing anything in any style you want is possible. The next step to work on is all the fun, creative stuff; compisition, color palette, lighting etc.

Here's a sketch of how I'd like to see Spiderman in the new movie. Its much more Kick-Ass than the perfectly made body-suit from Raime's movies, and you can see how each piece of the costume is seperate. Its a wip right now, I still need to bring in into Painter and work over the whole thing, and throw in the spider on the chest and the webbing.

Looks interesting.

Thanks! I started painting it, hopefully school work won't bog me down too much and I can finish it soon.

Here's a pice I did a few months back for an online game called Cosmic Jack...

Dude that's really cool. Are the webs going to be raised or stiched on?

Been so busy with school I haven't had much time post anything new. Here's a few projects I did for class. Created with Painter X and Maya.

:wow: wow!! Keith these are truly amazing. The amount of detail you've put in is staggering. Two fantastic piece you should be very proud of. Great job.:yay:

Sure everybody talks about screwing like rabbits, but nobody ever thinks about living with it afterwards.

Warm, endearing and badass, keith! :awesome:

Thanks!

Here's a Spiderman piece I was working on. I think I'm going to shelve it or just start over. It's coming out okay, but the process I've been using simply isn't enjoyable. It's taking way too long.

Too bad, looks really good so far--homemade costume, but still very much Spider-Man. Hope they go with something like this for the reboot.

Thanks! I've been thinking of taking my design and instead of illustrating it, doing something 3D with it. Just a matter of finding the time.
