Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor

Thor is not as popular a property as Hulk and is certainly nowhere near LOTR status. It probably won't have the money for an LOTR-scale budget.

Sad, but true.

Considering how Marvel balked at the 300mil requirement (fact check) for Vaughns proposal--and rightly so, you're probably right. LOTR has definitely spoiled us.

LotR had a 300mil budget for all three films. Thor can easily be made for a third of that and still maintain the quality.

Id rather it looked a little more like 13th Warrior with a production budget of 85 mill

Probably because Jacksone use WETA for the special effects..?

300 mil!? I don't think there's even been a 300 mil film yet.

"cerealkiller".....VERY good point, the 13th warrior with a hint of LOTR is the perfect combo for thor... considering the budget will fall in the $80-$120 mill range.

Shade, i think superman returns ($250mill) was the closest to a $300 mill budget, but the action or lack of action made it seem like a $200 mill movie or less....

NOT to change the subject too much....BUT i think "The Avenges" budget has to be a minimum of $250-$300. Just all the actors salaries combined will be over $100 million, leaving only $200 MILLION for locations, special effects, crew, stunts etc. (Fury, Thor, Iron Man, Cap, Wasp, Hank, Banner/Hulk, not to mention possible cameos...)

Spider-Man 3 was rumored to have an actual budget over $300 million.

In any event, LOTR was able to spread the development cost of special effects, costumes, and sets over 3 films which surely helped it stay budget conscious. Similarily, Harry Potter is able to keep using the Hogwarts sets. Thor probably isn't going to be able to use many of those types of shortcuts to save money as sequels aren't assured and won't necessarily contain anything in common other than Asgard.

Which one is it? I know it ain't alvin and the chipmunks.

I understand the reasoning behind it, just pointing it out for people who may not have noticed.

Seems like a kid flick. I wouldn't worry about it.

is Fox bad for doing that?? you're almost making it sound like "how dare Fox do this??, everyone must make way for Marvel Studios!!"

No, I just have a tendency to hate FOX because they've been churning out nothing but **** for years now :woot:

I have a love/hate relationship with Fox....they have given me It's Always Sunny and The Shield....

FX has always been better than the rest of Fox, its like Fox under better management

marvel should double the budget for Thor pt. 2.. must increase the epic nature.. more monsters, longer fights..

They haven't made the first one yet!!

I trust Kenneth Branagh....if he isn't familiar with source material already, he will be more than prepared to take this on....
