Kenneth Branagh to direct Thor

while I've enjoyed all the Zwick films I've seen, KB has much more excited about this film than I previously was. I'm a fan of all the Shakespearian films KB has done, so adding that kind of artistry to Thor just makes me all kinds of happy!

I'm pretty sure Branagh knows a thing or two about epic cinematography

Anyone one wish they would have gone with Edward Zwick for Thor instead? The guy does cinematrophy better than most and his movies are always stunning visually and he knows how to create emotion. His sets, etc are often stunning also, all important things it seems from what little I know of the Thor character.
Zwick needs to direct Black Panther Plain and Simple :o

Never liked Ed Zwick. Always found him too academic for my tastes. Branagh's a better choice, IMO.

I'd have been happy with Zwick too. I just don't see anything that necessarily makes him more qualified than Branagh.

I think being more used to working with big budgets may have stood him in good stead, especially with the action scene's. X-Men, Iron Man, Batman Begins and Spiderman were all great movies, but the action scene's in them were severly lacking, I am expecting the same from this.

I think he is perfect for a number of comic book movies, his directing style makes movies look like cartoons sometimes, which is why I think he'd be perfect for an epic CB movie.

I think Zwick could have made a badass G.I. Joe movie.

There's a new interview with Kenneth. It seems he likes the current comics. :woot:

"I think that ['Thor' stories] go through golden patches and purple patches and everyone has personal favorites,” Branagh told MTV News. “The recent runs have been marvelous. The J. Michael Straczynski run has been a tremendous achievement."

No word on whether Don Blake has been added to the script or not, though.

Not surprising. JMS' run has been very similar to a Shakespearean epic--lots of betrayal and politics.

Is it wrong for me to say that JMS' run on Thor is my all-time favorite?

(and I've read and enjoyed the Simonson run in the 80s)

It's definitely a good run. I think Simonson's still wins for me, though.

NOt really related to Thor but related to his schedule: Branagh started filming the second season of Wallander on June 22 and it is scheduled to wrap in early October. Here's a Swedish article about it (run through Google translate)

I would assume Hiddleston is there, too

Damn, guess that rules out a surprise Thor panel at Comic-Con. :(

I think Marvel should concentrate on Iron Man 2 for this year's Comic Con.

There's still another year for Thor to get prepared complete with a mini-trailer just like 2007 Comic Con for Iron Man. Make it a double header with the less ready Captain America.

Yeah, I'm just sad that I booked my tickets for Comic-Con early this year hoping to get stuff for Green Lantern and Thor - at that point both slated for 2010 - only for both to be delayed to 2011. :(

I really want to see what mystery film marvel studios will announce. They didn't specifically say they'd announce it at comicon, but they said it would be announced within next few months (they said this at the beginning of june).

It might be Ant-Man with a 2012 Release date.. to set up for The Avengers.

I think marvel will drop antman. I think its a waisted attempt. If an antman film is made it needs to be after avengers, it would give him room to grow (no pun intended) it also could introduce the vision, and ultron. But I want the mystery film to be TIH 2 or black panther.

:hehe:

If it was Black Panther I would be Super Juiced! Also Doc Strange would be awesome... but let's not get this thread off course... let's take it to The Asgardian Lounge

I've been watching True Blood of late and Skarsgard would of made one hell of a Thor he's got the look and he pulls off bad ass very nicely.

I agree.

Unfortunately, that ship has sailed; time to move on and give Hemsworth our support.

wow, brian... u have let the skars ship sail??

I thought some guys were going to stay in denial until they see the 1st shots of hemsworth in full thor gear or a teaser trailer.

Im sure skars will pop up in a CB movie down the road... who knows DC might snatch him up to show marvel what they possibly missed out on.

He could play a villain with ease. He would make an interesting Parasite.... or Brainiack.....if ya know some one like Nolan had his hands on Superman.
