Here's my reasoning: the original Killer Moth intended to be the "anti-Batman," which seems like a cheesy concept. This idea was revisited with a more serious tone with the character of The Wrath, but that character seemed less interesting for some reason.

Killer Moth had his own Mothmobile and Moth Cave, but more importantly, he aided criminals and battled the police. This put him at odds with The Batman, and feels like something a "freak" would do in the post-Batman Gotham of the Nolanverse films.

Yes, his costume is hideous, and yes, the idea of a Mothmobile and Mothcave are ludicrous. But this guy was mysterious. He adopted a millionaire playboy guise with money obtained from his criminal deeds and even befriended Bruce.

So imagine a guy trained as well as Bruce, with the same resources as Bruce, who patterns himself after Bruce with an image that instills fear and terror in the hearts of the cops and citizens of Gotham.

I'd rather see this take on a character who already has this basis in the comics lore than trying to apply it to someone like the Riddler, Penguin, or Black Mask (though Sionis could be manipulated into a character like this)

Hush or even a toned down Azrael are much better suited. Though Azrael was a good guy
Killer Moth is a joke. Much better used as some insane guy who tries to be like the Joker but gets shot dead by other mobsters

I have to say, I like the depiction of Killer Moth in Robin: Year One, and especially Batgirl: Year One.
But Hush or Black Mask would be better suited to be the 'anti-Batman'. I agree that The Wrath is too on-the-nose to fit this role.

The Reaper would be better than Killer Moth.

I highly doubt we'll ever see killer moth in a batman movie... especially a nolan movie

Killer Moth is the greatest villain ever created, even better than the Joker. He's just not a better because he's particularly effective though. It's because he's KILLER MOTH. No one takes him seriously, he wears stripey pants, complains whenever someone busts his Mothmobile because he just had it fixed ands it was expensive, and because he so desperately wants to be a serious threat when everyone but him knows he's non-lethal D-Lister material at best.

Be still my heart at the prospects of seeing this guy challenge Batman in the third movie :awesome:

how could batman take anyone seriously whos gimmick was dressing up like a moth, but then again he might get the upperhand because bats would be too busy laughing. "Seriously, a moth!?...hahahahahahaha"

Hehe. Only it'd be more like *Bale Voice* -
"SEEERIOUSLYAHHMOTHHH!!?"

Was the original post a joke?

No, it was not a joke.

I made it clear that I'm not talking about the character as he was originally (or later) portrayed. But the name has potential, and moths are creepy. He could easily have a suit similar to Batman's and use it to instill fear in others.

Mr. Freeze was a joke until B:TAS and I really believe there's the same potential with Killer Moth.

The Mr Freeze comparison is not really valid. Mr Freeze was not a "joke", he just wasn't a very deep villain. He was one of the more popular villains, even racking up three appearances on the 60's Batman TV show.

I don't think Killer Moth has ever been popular. What kind of serious back story could you write for a guy to dress up as a moth and commit crimes?

Killer Moth, please....Azrael? a crappy character...Mr. Zassz(sp), Mad Hatter, Firefly blah blah blah. Why are people campaining for an appearance by so many two-bit Bat-man characters that work fine or merely just ok in the comics?

You know, now that Batman is being seen as a killer to the public, i can see another vigilante popping up wanting to take Batman down......

Not sure he needs a motive, other than to oppose The Batman and law and order. Here's the pre-Crisis Killer Moth's bio from Wikipedia:
Cameron van Cleer

The original Killer Moth was a prisoner identified only by his prison number, 234026. While in prison, he reads a newspaper article about Batman and decides to set himself up as the "anti-Batman," hiring himself out to Gotham City's criminals to help them elude capture by police. Upon his release, he uses the hidden proceeds of his crimes to build a "Mothcave", modeled on the photos of the Batcave in the newspaper article he read.
Killer Moth also establishes a false identity, as millionaire philanthropist Cameron van Cleer. In this guise, he becomes friends with Bruce Wayne. Meanwhile, he promotes himself to Gotham's criminals using his identity as Killer Moth, giving them each an infra-red Moth-signal. In his first job, he rescues some criminals from the police and then uses his Mothmobile to defeat and capture Batman and Robin. The duo escape and lead Killer Moth to a climactic battle on Gotham Bridge, which ends when the villain plunges 1,000 feet into the river and disappears.
In his second appearance (Detective Comics #173 July 1951) Killer Moth kidnaps Bruce Wayne and learns his secret identity. However, he is shot by other criminals and the resultant cranial injury causes amnesia. He remains a persistent enemy appearing through the Silver Age of comics. He is frequently remembered as being the first criminal Batgirl encounters in Detective Comics #359.

What if that sort of is the theme of Batman 3, the Anit-Batman. All the criminal "freaks" want to be the Anit-Batman, and are inspired by the Joker. Many crawl out of the woodwork, including Killer Moth. But perhaps Killer Moth isn't very good at it and is either caught right away or killed.
It could help show that Batman is busier than ever because of the joker's actions in part 2, and if he is killed it could show how much more dangerous Gotham has become.

I liked the idea of an anti-Batman who aids criminals in their crimes, but also dresses up like Batman in a way. So its like he is inspired by both Batman and the Joker. I see this part being small though.

Add that to the idea of a cat burglar who is inspired by Batman and dresses up and uses gear to steal. And add that to the "freaks" taking over the mob world with the Penguin taking over the empty spot.

How are Hatter and Zsasz two-bit characters? They're far more than 'fine' in the comics. When done right, they are creepier than The Joker. Few villains actually make me as disgusted as The Mad Hatter. Granted, Professor Pyg is catching up fast, but Hatter still has a cupboard full of scalped women who weren't called Alice.
He's just someone you want Batman to beat the **** out of. Ditto for Zsasz.
