Kim Jong Il : "Oops"

Yeah, it's better to just give them money based on a pretentious friendship, so they can just fund and build their nuke program right under our noses.

Oh, sorry, had a Clinton flashback there.
At least Clinton gives poor countries money instead of giving them weapons like Reagan did.

So Kim Jong Il is telling the Chinese he regrets the test? That is seen by Lazur as success by Bush. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Because Jong Il has never said anything insincere to the Chinese before in order to maintain their support?

If the Soviets lauched a nuke under Reagan's watch you people would blame President Carter. Freaking pathetic!

Alot of countries have nukes. It's up to the present world leaders to maintain world peace. If Pakistan lauches a nuke tomorrow don't blame Clinton, don't blame Reagan, and don't blame the guy who created the atomic bomb. Blame who's in charge!

Not quite. And I'm not blaming Clinton for them testing a nuke. Clinton did the best he could under the circumstances.

What I'm saying is that Bush didn't want to REPEAT Clinton's actions (note I didn't call it a "mistake") because we learned that they did NOT work. So instead of appeasing NK, he forced the UN to deal with it, as they SHOULD.

It's no more Bush's fault that they detonated a nuke than it is Clinton's. All I'm saying is that by NOT engaging in two party talks, we didn't fall into the same trap that Clinton did (even though Clinton's intentions were noble). We (Bush) took the alternate route and HOPEFULLY it'll yield better results.

However, I'm still of the opinion that there's not a whole lot we can do to fix this situation in the first place. Sometimes, when something breaks, there's simply no way to fix it, period. Kim Jong Il is a psycho. About the only way to "fix" him is to "kill" him. It's just that I'm tired of people pointing at Bush and assigning him ALL of the blame when all he's doing is trying not to fall into the same traps.

I'm sorry, but you have no way of knowing if it was "inactive". Why do you believe that anyway?
It was in 2003 that they officially withdrew from the nonproliferation treaty because they claimed the US wasn't holding up it's end of the Agreed Framework. Granted, they were probably busy as beavers during the 'lull' but it was under W's watch that the gloves came off.

It's not Bush's fault that they have nukes, but it's Bush's fault that they tested one?

Make sense much?
The Bush administration's refusal to having any unilateral discourse with NK helped lead us to this point. And it didn't have to be this way. Diplomacy doesn't mean kotowing to their every demand but the lack of any dialogue was obviously not conducive as evidenced by the test. However, the administration was absolutely justified in putting the pinch on their illegal activites, which also led to where we are now. So W can't be faulted from that angle. Of course, that didn't last long, as NK quickly moved their counterfeiting ops into China proper (it seems the Chinese are more involved there than anyone would like to talk about).

Then by your logic, nothing Kim Jong Il does or says could be seen as a success, correct?

Kim Jong Il allowing inspectors to enter NK and disarm his nuclear program is a success, Kim Jong Il sucking up to China is hardly one.

Assasinating Kim Jong? Do you think the North Korean's who have been taught to worship him as a god since they were 3 are just going to roll over and embrace western values???

The North Korean response will make Iraq look like a peaceful utopia. South Koreans know this that's why they push for peaceful co-existance rather than regime change.

I think it has a point? I don't understand your critique of it.

When I said that there was no news link so it just looked like him saying something that belonged in another thread.

A program that was for all practical purposes inactive until W cut off all ties and labeled them part of the "Axis of Evil."

That is a complete falsity. Kim Jong Il continued his nuclear program after making the deal with Clinton. It didn't just activate when Bush decided to cut off all ties. It was going on the entire time.

And how do you suppose we go about getting him to allow in inspectors?

There was an interesting story angle to the Kim Jong Il movie studio story on Good Morning America today that was not mentioned that could be of further interest. Kim Jong Il is a huge movie fan of course, and he supposedly has a library of tens of thousands of films from all over the world.

In 1985, Kim Jong Il bankrolled a monster movie called "Pulgasari". This film used Godzilla-type special effects that were actually secretly provided by certain members of the Japanese Toho movie studio. The director, Sang-ok Shin, was a South Korean who had been kidnapped for the sole purpose of making the film!
