BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL #26

I mean...

After 40 years?

WHY?

LOL! That's really cool. He always was the best of the villains they made up for the TV show.

I always liked Victor Buono entertaining performances as King Tut in the 1960's Batman television show, so I'm sure I'll check this out.

Y'know...in the right hands, King Tut might actually make for a pretty decent Bat-villain.

Personally, I'd probably drop the moniker "King Tut" and just call him Tutankhamun, and make him a sort of Imhotep-type bad@$$ come back from the grave to challenge Batman. And some historical touches wouldn't hurt, either, judging by his Wiki entry:
During Tutankhamun's reign, Akhenaten's Amarna revolution (Atenism) was being reversed. Akhenaten had attempted to supplant the traditional priesthood and deities with a god who was until then considered minor, Aten. In Year 3 of Tutankhamnen's reign (1331), when he was probably about 11, and under the influence of two older advisors (Akhenaten's vizier Ay and perhaps Nefertiti), the ban on the old pantheon of deities and their temples was lifted, the traditional privileges were restored to their priesthoods, and the capital was moved back to Thebes. The young pharaoh adopted the name Tutankhamun, changing it from his birth name Tutankhaten. Because of his age at the time responsibility for these decisions can be attributed to his advisors. King Tutankhamun restored all of the traditional deities, and restored order to the chaos created by his uncle Akhenaten. In addition, temples devoted to Amun-Ra were built during this period. Although Tutankhamun's wooden box depicts him going to war against Hittites and Nubians, and he is shown wearing the blue war crown, it is doubtful that he ever went to war since scrutiny of the period's extensive written evidence does not yield records of him participating in any wars or battles.

Suppose Tutankhamun intended to make up for lost time, saw Gotham as a place of chaos (as pretty much anyone would), and saw its mortal hero as essentially another variation of Aten?...

I dropped Confidential after issue 2 and have no regrets but this does interest me. I'll check for it out of curiosity and hope it's decent.

Out of all the villains they invented for the 60's series, King Tut always seemed the most like a "real" Batman villain to me. An insane egyptologist who believes himself to be the reincarnation of King Tut is no more out there than Maxi Zeus.

Meh, I always wanted to see Ramses II come back from the dead.

That’s what I was thinking too. Essentially we’ll have Maxie Zeus transplanted to ancient Egypt. I’m actually one of about…well…three people that like Maxie Zeus, so I’m excited to see where they take King Tut. He was definitely the most memorable and popular of the made-for-television villains. A legit take on him has been long overdue.

And I think these "creative" writers will add a little twist so King Tut could be indeed the reincarnation of the real King TUtanchamun. :whatever:

Very ironic statement. I've heard rumors that the sole existence of Maxi Zeus in the comics was because DC wanted to have King Tut in the comics, but they didn't have the rights, so they created Zeus instead.

I figure WB and DC might be making some progress regarding the rights over the old Batman TV series, judging by the fact that Mattel (their major toy licensee) has been cranking out die-casts of the old TV Batmobile for the first time in ages. In fact, I'd venture to guess as a result of the Siegel/Shuster legal brouhaha, WB/DC is probably being more aggressive in trying to resolve or head off any further disputes over the other characters in its stable, and the Adam West series would be a major bone of contention since it was produced by Fox.

Still, even if DC is actually going to introduce some version of King Tut into continuity, it doesn't have to be confined to trying to "adapt" the TV character himself.

I'd be interested to see if the character goes on to interact with Black Adam, Hawkman and the other guys from that Egyptian era.

This is actually a really cool concept. It could totally work in the DCU to. There are already Greek mythological figures hanging around, why not Egyptian?

I am looking forward to this. King Tut rules!

is it the real Tut because he was only like 17 or something. and 17 yr olds are mostly tools

is anyone else really enjoying this? These past 2 issues have been really good, better than I expected. Its always good to see Batman doing detective work. The art is really good too. Im excited to see whats going to happen in the final issue.

This is awesome so far. And the artist draws THE definitive Riddler. No joke, I want him to draw every Riddler story.....ever.

hell ya, I agree with you. I wish they just kept making stories like this instead of all this RIP and Battle for the Cowl stuff....this IS what Batman comics should be!!
