This game recently captured my attention out of no where. It's an upcoming, open world, fantasy RPG. It looks promising.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning is an upcoming single-player role-playing video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Microsoft Windows.[2] Ken Rolston, the lead designer of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, will act as the game's lead designer. Additionally, noted fantasy author R.A. Salvatore created the game universe and lore, with Todd McFarlane, creator of Spawn, working on the artwork.[3] It is being developed by 38 Studios and Big Huge Games for release in early 2012. The first public demonstration was at the Penny Arcade Expo East 2011 held in Boston, Massachusetts, United States on Friday, March 11, 2011.

Yeah, Reckoning looks pretty cool and I'm definitely interested in it.

Some new stories on the game:

Kotaku

The graphics and backstory may not have a lot of instant appeal, but the fantastic combat system and colorful attacks and specials are sure to get gamers to stick around long enough to start caring and understanding about those things. And with a promised 60 hours of gameplay, it probably makes sense to slowly ramp that up over the course of the game.

There are four playable races, three class trees, each with 22 abilities to sort through. I played around with a few, like planting ice land mines or that venomous teleport, but there were many, many more I didn't get a chance to experience. That alone feels like it will make the game worthwhile.

GamesRadar

One button dodges (boring, but needed). Another triggers your main melee weapons like daggers, another executes your secondary attack - often using a long-range weapon like our hero's dual-wielded chakrams (bladed discs) - and a third blasts out magic. Each weapon has a different multi-hit combo that chains smoothly into other attacks, and there are additional special moves as well. For instance, if you hold the button down for a while without taking damage, you’ll typically get a different and better move than if you hammer the button. There are special moves you can execute by fighting well and building up a meter (just like Street Fighter). In addition, each weapon can have elemental effects tied to it, like the ice effects added to our demoer's daggers. Which, for the record, he actually made himself by breaking unwanted weapons into their pieces and reassembling them.

They both refer to it as a 'sleeper hit' for next year. I'm really getting interested in this game.
Hopefully we will get some new footage at E3.

Hopefully.

Do you know what the four playable races are?

I don't think either story states that, but Kotaku mentions race (and place) names: Amalur, Almain, Varani, Ljosalfar, Dokkalfar and Gnomes. I assume Human would be in there as well.

I wonder why the Kotaku writer thinks the graphics don't have "instant appeal"?

I think, technically, it looks awesome. And I love the art style. It reminds me a lot of Darksiders and especially World of Warcraft.

What a surprise that you think that. :whatever:

The fact that it is open world with an exaggerated art style is really appealing to me.

Some more Reckoning screens.

Other than looking a little fuzzy around edges, I think the game looks pretty good.

Whoa! Look like Fable of Warcraft... Which is good, not as "corny" looking as Fable. Looks interesting enough to me.

hmmm......this game looks interesting.......

G4 reports that McFarlane stated, "It's scheduled for February, unless EA tells us otherwise." EA, for its part, has declined to be any more specific than a generic "2012" for the role-playing game's release date.

Would make a cool birthday present for me if true.

^^ yeah......I'm kind of surprised, too, that this thread is so inactive........

I'm really looking forward to this game, too!!

I like the fact that you aren't restricted to traditional "classes" and have greater freedom in defining your character.

I'm really looking forward to the combat. Most RPG games don't have fun combat (to me at least). So Amalur has my full attention.

This is from the lead dude behind the best game in the Elder Scrolls series (Morrowind). So... I'm SOLD. A deep RPG system and world along with actually fun combat system.

I will definitely be trying this game out.

In a few videos I've been watching, whenever your character enters dialog with someone, his or her helmet (if they're wearing one) will automatically be removed. Any reason on why that is?

have they said if the protagonist will be voiced or silent?

38 Studios is taking stupid expensive limited editions TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL!!
