Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

Got KOA from Gamefly today for my PS3. Played it for 4 hours straight. It's pretty good. It sucks whatever head gear you wear doesn't show up in conversation scenes though. How are you guys going about quests? I did about 4 side quests, and completed I'd say....the first main quest? I just exited the Theater of Fate, after weeking up with that elf chick again.

Apparently, my character is the twin of an important NPC you meet early on.

It's funny because I know this game isn't as deep as other games... I mean, you never really feel like you're making an impact on the world like you do in other games... But it's so addictive for some reason. I really love the world.

I think the demo was awful because that first environment is really uninspiring. When I got into the plains environment, I was blown away.

Also, there's something about this game that really reminds of an old school Rareware game for some reason. It also reminds me of both the first Fable and a little of Kameo: Elements of Power, as far as creature designs go etc.

Yeah, I'm pretty into it though.

Does anyone know what the contents of the three DLCs are?

30+ missions done total. I'm enjoying this game quite a bit. Wish there were more cutscenes and that your character had an actual voice to speak.

So what are your thoughts Spidey-Bat?

I enjoy it. I agree with Wolvieboy that the first area you explore is pretty average. The last place I got to was just this little island on a lake with a couple buildings, it's still in the forest section. Even though it's open world, you still feel confined since you have to walk around parts of scenery and the trees limit your view. You get a better sense of openess in Skyrim when you can look out at the plains of Whiterun or from a mountaintop.

I like the destiny bonuses. It allows you to spec your character anyway you want and not have a hard time against enemies if you didn't invest enough in a tree.

I definitely get a Rare, Fable, and Kameo vibe. The items also remind me of Torchlight.

The combat is a lot of fun. I really like the Harpoon spell, it allows you to get up close if the enemy is away (or pull them to you) so you can wail on them. There's also a Finesse spell that I thought was kind of useless but was actually very effective against larger enemies.

I'm trying to stick to a mage rogue, but it's kind of hard since assassins aren't as insanely overpowered like in Skyrim. I've been using daggers (faeblades kinda suck and are ugly to look at on your character's back) and chakrams which are amazing.

Yeah, Chakrams are my favourite, easily. I was rocking the daggers and chakrams but I just found the coolest looking super rare Faeblades that look different to the others and totally suit my Wolverine themed character :P

I ended up going Jack of All Trades since I wanted the combat stuff from might, the dagger/fae blade stuff from Finesse and the Chakram levelling up from Magic. You're right Spidey in that you never really feel penalised for levelling your character up in a certain way, even with all the lockpicking/alchemy type stuff, nothing really feels completely closed off to you.

Which is one thing I really like and it's great that you can respec your character later.

Skyrim is much more rigid. EVERY character pretty much has to invest in the Enchanting and Smithing trees. But if you want the best weapons, you have to invest in the Heavy Armor side even if you prefer using Light Armor. One thing I also didn't like is if you wanted to be a mage assassin, you had to get points in the Alteration tree for quiet casting. And to think it was even worse in Oblivion and Morrowind.

Is it true that this is like a more refined version of Fable?

It has a Fable vibe to it but I don't really think the comparisons to Fable are fair. They're both two very different games.

Hmm I'll have to check it out. Looks pretty good from what I've seen and the reviews have been pretty good.

for those who played the demo before the final game.......

are the graphics in the final game more "polished" than in the demo?

have the bugs in the demo been largely fixed in the final game?

and, does the camera follow your character better than in the demo? ( it just seemed "off" in the demo.....too loose? )

Yeah, the graphics look better and I've not encountered any bugs I saw in the demo.

I never had a problem with the camera since I immediately changed the sensitivity when I started the demo.

This game is way too addictive, ever since I've added fire to this longsword and equipped this robe that allows health regen, I've been kicking ass, nobody has stood a chance

Yeah, Chakrams are my favourite, easily. I was rocking the daggers and chakrams but I just found the coolest looking super rare Faeblades that look different to the others and totally suit my Wolverine themed character :P

Faeblades are what I'm using most of the time too. But I'm switching it up now and then. Right now I'm using a pretty strong long sword, and a metal spectre that shoots FIRE. I came across other spectres that had high damage levels, but I'm not a fan of my metal wearing knight using a wooden twig. I chose this one because it was made of metal itself.:hehe:

I re-spec'd my character. Had some points in abilities I didn't want/need (like 1 in Longsword and 2 in Ice Traps). Only cost 2k gold but I have over 15k. I like that you can do that as well as change some aspects of your character's appearance during the game (hair color, jewelery, tattos, etc.) Just makes it feel more free than Skyrim (though you can do it on the PC, it can reset some things).

I wish you could customize the color of armor. My best leggings are all brown which don't go well with my cuirass (black and red). I'd like to use a mage robe with finesse armor but it seems to get more garish as you find better quality. Minor complaint though.

I really love the combat in this. I just got the second tier Finesse/Mage Destiny. Now my dodge rolls are blink teleports like Nightcrawler. I really love how the Finesse is more balanced than an assassin in Skyrim. In this, you can use stealth but it's not insanely overpowered since you can only use melee weapons for ranged stealth kills. However, you are much more capable in melee combat. In Skyrim, you could clear out an entire dungeon with just a handful of arrows but if you were caught, you had to rely on melee weapons which would be more suited to a warrior class.

I bought the two bits of DLC last night. The Might DLC comes with some awesome kickass armor. :D

Towards the end of this video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/episode-197-invisible-walls/726763 there is a bunch of Amalur discussion. A big concern is that the godlikeness of the latter stages of the game aren't fun, because there is no longer any challenge. It makes me wish Amalur had a difficulty range, like in Oblivion. In Oblivion on the hardest difficulty the first 3 rats in the damn game killed me about 15x because I was so dumbfounded that rodents, even those the size of pit bulls, could take me out so efficiently.

I only have knowledge I gained from the demo, but to me faeblades rocked in combat, but I'd switch back to the chakrams when I was running around. The faeblades really should have been put at the hip when not in use like the daggers, or put right on top of each other so they didn't look like ******ed wings on the player's avatar.

Damn straight I'm right!:woot: Also, need pics for your Loganesque faeblades, if at all possible. Glad to hear you could make a jack of all trades character that worked. If you tried that in Skyrim, it would be like taking a teaspoon from every dish at a buffet... In other words, you'd feel like a *****bag for being so indecisive.

ok sweet no ones put this up yet.

The development super team put together at 38 Studios isn't one and done, at least according to owner Curt Schilling.

I'm also thinking that bioware can "out source" these guys for the 3rd dragon age. (In a helping manner idea and game play wise.)
they share some thing in common already Grey wardens .

I hope by "sequel" they mean a giant DLC add on that includes a whole different continent of Amalur. With dozens of more towns to visit and lots of more sidequests.

I don't think that's what that means. But that doesn't there won't be DLC. But it's best to wait and see what they say on DLC for this game or not.

So I ended up respeccing and losing all my Finesse stuff. I realised I was only really using it for the faeblades/daggers perk and the Chakrams are already the perfect fast, mid range weapon. Now I'm all Might and Sorcery and loving that 'Blink' dodge.

So you want an entire new game as DLC?
