NBC Takes Knight Rider for Another Spin

"Michael, I don't like the sound of this.... "

NBC has put director Doug Liman in the driver's seat of a two-hour TV-movie that will reboot that '80s show Knight Rider and ideally serve as a backdoor pilot for a new series. ("No, Michael, not the back door.... ") Variety reports that the plan is to air the flick later this season, and if successful/not entirely abysmal, have a new series ready for fall 2008. Dave Andron (Raines) is penning the script and will exec-produce with Liman and Dave Bartis (Heist).

The vision for this redo is to take advantage of current TV special effects to allow K.I.T.T. some Transformers-esque shapeshifting. (But no, Hoff, no amount of state-of-the-art trickery will get you your old job back.)

will we see the return of the evil GARTH and K.A.R.R?

sounds good if done right. Maybe the Hoff can make a cameo if he isn't too busy eating McDonalds off a bathroom floor.

Damn, I wanted Welling for Michael Knight ever since I saw this pic.

Not totally against this, as long as they get William Daniels to voice KITT>

no more ****ing tom welling. put that one trick pony out to pasture. better yet send him to the glue factory.
As for a night rider reboot. third times the charm.

This is the stupidest idea for a movie or TV show yet. How many horrid remakes both on the big and little screen of terribly aged 80's TV shows do we need?

This show was my favorite growing up. I just hope they make it cool like the new bionic woman (though I wish they used the classic bionic sound fx) and not campy!

Also, I really hope they stick with Pontiac for KITT. It would be wierd seeing any other car with that name. I'd love to see them use a black GTO or G6 Coupe for KITT. Or use the last model Trans-Am from 2002. Either way, it'll get suped up and modified...

You can gaurantee that everyone who is not excited about this did not grow up in the 80s. Can't wait

The fact that it is terribly aged is exactly why the potential for success is so high. Battlestar Galactica went from a cheesy 70s sci-fi show, to one of the best shows, sci-fi or otherwise, on television in years.

To say nothing of Doug Liman's involvement. He's proved through a variety of films that he can handle action, character and story development, and I think he'd get the right people involved to make the projet work.

Actually I did grow up in the 80's that is precisely why I am against it. Been there done that. Lets move on.:whatever:

Or should I call you Uncle Rico?

I initially thought a remake of Battlestar Galactica was a terrible idea and it become of the best sci-fi series ever on TV. I hope Liman makes it more Bourne Identity and less Mr and Mrs Smith, get rider of the sillier, cheesier elements of the old show and make something grittier and smarter. I loved this show as a kid and it has potential to be something better if you know how to explore it. When they were talking about the movie, I though Josh Holloway would be awesome as a new Michael Knight, but now it´s a show and it would conflict with his Lost schedule.

W to the T to the F?

It´s only "been there done that" as a silly cheesy 80´s TV show, but not as something with a better, updated sensibility. BSG was "been there done that", yet the new version is nothing like the old show and is vastly superior.

I'm still waiting for remakes of Humanoid Defender,Automan and Northstar..........

I'll never forget Manimal.

The others were mere tv shows.

Manimal was an experience.
