I know that 'the Hoff' is currently pushing for a hollywood update of Knightrider starring himself and Orlando Bloom; but as much of a fan that I am of the TV show, I have serious doubts as to whether the concept can work nowadays (a fella with a talking car that just turbo boosts over things - let's face it, it was pretty absurd, fun as hell, but absurd nonetheless).

As a huge fan of Will Ferrell, I was intrigued a few years back with the rumour that he could be playing the part of Michael Knight in a comedic styled adaption of the series (ala Starsky and Hutch) and it's a shame that this idea has seemingly died. Personally, that is one film I would love to see.

Can you imagine Ferrell with the famous Hoff 80's hairdo, tight red polo neck, tight jeans and even tighter black leather jacket barking orders to a talking car through his wrist-communicator with all the gusto and testosterone that the Hoff employed but in his own inimitable fashion?

Or better yet, Ferrell playing Garth Knight? Wearing a rediculous moustache/goatee combo, as well as an even more rediculous suit (complete with cane)?

Or maybe Steve Carrell providing the voice of K.I.T.T.?

Throw in Leslie Nielsen as Devon (or alternitively as Wilton Knight), Goliath and K.A.R.R. (again voiced by Carrell) for good measure.

How about it? Any fans of Ferrell think this would be fun to watch?

they do like kind of similar in those first two pics...

and i never watched knight rider, so i don't care what they do with it.

I Can imagine it now:
FERRELL IS KNIGHT

GENIUS!!

This is one film I would love to see

From The Hollywood Reporter: "The talking car K.I.T.T. is heading to the big screen in the Weinstein Co.'s adaptation of Glen A. Larson's hit 1980s TV series "Knight Rider." Larson will write and exec produce the feature, which he anticipates will begin production next year. The project was brought to the attention of Weinstein Co. co-head Harvey Weinstein by a mutual friend, director David Price, son of Larson's mentor Frank Price, who headed Universal TV in the 1970s. The project had previously been in development at Revolution Studios. Larson has bandied about the project for years. "A number of people wanted to do a pure comedic send-up of it, but I always felt that would throw away the franchise," he said. "There was always some humor on the show, but this film will probably have more gallows, foxhole humor.""

Dammit. :cmad:

I feel a petition coming - at least there's 2 signatures guaranteed, eh Mrbarbar? :D

Why oh why would anyone want to do a serious take on this show. Its a programme about a crime fighter and his talking car

Lol. Tell me about it.

I have a lot of love for the show but, let's face it, you could get away with anything in the 80's.

If they make this film, the audience are gonna laugh anyway - the filmakers might as well be in on it.

Imagine Ferrell giving us the old Hassellhoff "Yeeaah!"

Brilliant.

What the hell?

No. Keep Will Ferrel the hell away from Knightrider.

Knightrider could be made into a fun action thriller that's taken as seriously as possible, like those james bond movies and no one would laugh at it.

If those wackowski brothers can make that cheesy speed racer show into a really good movie, knightrider should be easy.

And I'd rather watch a Will Farrel Bay Watch movie

I wouldn't mind the idea of Farrell if I hadn't seen him ruin Bewitched. After that abomination, I lost any faith in his ability to play new versions of old TV characters.

But a comedic Knight Rider film could be a lot of fun. Especially if whoever they cast has the classic Hasselhair.

Havent seen Bewitched but would I be right in assuming that he was 'reigned' in for that film? meaning that he was effectively a straight man?

Ferrell works best imo when he's given free-reign to just go nuts and explore any mad little instinctive comedic impulse that comes into his head.

I see Knight Rider as possibly giving him that oppurtunity rather than a rom/com like Bewitched.

But yeah, you just gotta have the Hassellhair. :D

It was like they couldn't decide to make him the straight man or the big ass-hole. Whichever way they decided to go, it was definitely the wrong one.

Yeah, the Hasselhair rules. :D I think if they do make this a comedy, then I've got the perfect tagline:

THIS SUMMER, EVIL FEARS THE KNIGHT. NO, NOT THAT ONE. THE OTHER KNIGHT.

KNIGHT RIDER!

I loved Knight Rider...when I was 10. I think whatever they do with it now, it's going to be a disaster.
And I make a point of not seeing ANYTHING w/Will Ferrell in it. Every time I see a promo for some new movie of his I wish Stewie Griffin would pay him another visit.

The best part about Knight Rider was the theme song.

Bull****.

It was the Hoff.

And it was how it made us care about a talking car.

I'm still pissed that Garth never got to partner up with K.A.R.R.

I loved Knight Rider as a kid and thought now it´d seem really ridiculous... But then again, I thought the same about Battlestar Galactica, another Glen Larson show, and look at what they did with it.

Does anyone remember a really bad rip-off Knight Rider TV show that came out in the mid-90's called Viper? It was basically a weekly hour long Dodge commercial about a car thief whose memory gets wiped, he gets a new identity, and then is sent to fight crime in a souped-up Viper that could change colors and shape-shift a bit (in other words, it was Knight Rider with a mute Transformer instead of a talking car).

^^HAAHAH! I thought I was the only person who'd ever seen that show

god it was bad.

of course I was young so I thought it was cool.

BUt I only saw it once, so I guess I didnt think it was that cool

I watched half an episode of Viper; that was all I could take.

I think if they're going to give Knight Rider a makeover, the really have to hedge the line. Otherwise it'll either turn into a "Starsky and Hutch" or a "Miami Vice"

hollywood needs some decent ideas...besides remakes...i mean old tv shows, classic horror movies, asian cinema....it never turns out good

and please keep will farrell away from anything...

Except Stewie Griffin's fist.

Not a bad idea, it would be good as a comedy or serious drama. Carell would be perfect for kitts voice and karrs voice.

If it were done comedic like Starsky & Hutch then I say go for it.

But true die hard KR fans might want a serious action packed turbo jumping wild fest.

Will Ferrel as Knight Rider...no way!
With tons of updates, you can make a good action movie out of KR, and i can´t really picture Ferrel as an action hero.
You want Ferrel to be the star in a movie based on a tv show right up his alley?

The Greatest American Hero
