Krypton Krypton - General Discussion Thread

I love the writing but in all honestly I starting to detest the constant mentioning of Superman. I'm detesting the brainiac, Zod, and Adam strange plot lines. I found the show more interesting when just about the great houses and the division among Krypton. I think they should be finding ways to stir clear of Superman. Instead if feels like their trying to force as much of him on us as they can. At least events and things surrounding him. It just feels like they have no faith in the show if they don't find a way to incorporate Superman in some how or some way. That I find disappointing cause at that point they could just went with Jor-El and been done with it.

The show isn't horrible and I still enjoy it but it starting to loose me the more they drag Superman and elements about him in to the show. Which is sad as I am massive Superman fan but feel if you going to make show that isn't about Superman then do so. Stop trying to have it both ways.

I understand what you're saying. I too was happy about a series purely about Krypton in the past, exploring the the different levels of society. Adding the plot elements of time travel did change that, and there is less time to explore the different houses of Krypton, even different cities other than Kandor.

I remember when the show was first announced, some people were complaining that a show purely about Krypton in the past would be boring, esp. without Superman. I think the show is trying to start off with a bang, making it be about saving Superman, the invasion of Brainiac, putting Zod in there, a lot of familiar elements. The show is trying to please that audience. And they do have to worry about ratings and being renewed for another season.

Maybe if there is a second season, there will be time to explore more of Kryptonian society. Maybe even veer away from Seg once in a while and explore another part of the world. Or have him go on different adventures in other parts of Krypton. There still can be time to explore the world, other people and places, and focus on Kryptonian society: its science and government etc. in a more complex way and hopefully still be exciting and hold an audience.

The mention of another city (cannot recall the name atm) by Nyssa Vex saying her sisters were there and that they could maybe reach out to them for allies was cool.

Hope this is taken up even though Dru-Zod shot the idea down saying they don't have the time.

Cannot recall what Dru-Zod's master plan is regarding stopping Braniac but hopefully he has a plan that is shown.

The agent of Braniac/Voice of Rao's display @ the end of the Nova Cycle was a brilliant one that really took Seg and the others by surprise.

Glad to see that this villain is not too easily defeated (so far).

Well if they couldn't rally the people of Kandor against Brainiac then maybe they will have to go to Kryptonopolis where Nyssa-Vex's sisters live and establish a base there.

Likely why the writers had Braniac make that move and have Nyssa-Vex mention it - so the story goes in that direction as they've done the exposition on how there's no way to defeat him solely from within Kandor.

Wallis Day (Nyssa) is the MVP of this show and she is so hnnnngh that it's distracting.

Wasn't expecting that to happen to Dev.

Brainiac is looking better and better.

I was reading about Krypton's ratings. This site shows that it had been slipping in numbers since the premiere, but this week was the first time they went back up from the previous week. And the first time it has held steady in the 18-49 demographic:

Don't know enough about the American ratings system to know what this means in terms of being renewed for a second season, though. Whether these numbers are enough to be considered a success/failure.

Compared to the major networks (or even the CW), Krypton’s ratings are pretty low. But they’re roughly comparable, methinks, to The Expanse (another Syfy show) - which is into its 3rd season.

I'm actually rooting against Adam now. He's coming across as a selfish *******.

It also doesn’t help that Zod has become a pretty likable guy (IMO). I hope they start showing off his more tyrannical side because even I am starting to root for him and against Adam :oldrazz:

Oh, we've seen enough to guess he is a bit of a psycho.

That clip of him talking to Mama Zod makes me give him the side eye. I think the other characters are going to see him as we know him soon enough.

Can't really compare cable ratings to broadcast network ratings. Broadcast networks are free and (with the exception of The CW) available everywhere. These networks you've gotta pay for, so of course they have lower ratings. Gotta compare it to other basic cable, or better yet, other shows on the network. As you say, it current ratings are comparable to The Expanse, as well as Killjoys, both of which have made it 3 seasons so far, so if this gets cancelled, it will be due to its budget (which does appear higher than the rest).

I think the way this is gonna play out is: Seg and the others never stop Brainiac. They try to use Doomsday but Brainiac still takes Kandor, the Els and Zods escape, the timeline remains intact. Next season Seg and Lyta are bitter about losing Kandor but need to deal with Doomsday and Zods whatever plans for ruling Krypton.

No their not going to use Doomsday. Honestly Doomsday bit was a gimmick a cheap one at that. The reason I say it was a cheap gimmick is because they threw him in as way to rope in comic book fans. All these elements of Superman they are throwing in are just a gimmick to try and keep people watching. To give some familiarity to Superman. Honestly they are doing it because they don't believe that the show can survive with out the Superman elements. Which if you ask me weigh the show down.

Don't get me wrong still entertaining but could be a thousand times better if they just get away from the Superman gimmicks.

Could be, but my opinion stills stands. They won't be able to stop Brainiac. If not Doomsday next season then they'll probably just deal with General Zod. Or something else.

Since I can't watch it on the Syfy website anymore, I'm just going to have to wait until this hits Netflix. Loved the first three eps though

Very interesting.

You're probably right. They probably won't stop Brainiac and Superman will survive. Then General Zod's true colours start to come out and that would make it worse for Krypton, including Lyta and Seg's relationship.

If Brainiac does take Kandor, I wonder how that would have played out if there was no Superman time-travel element. Where we saw more of Kandorian society, got to see more of it and know it more, and suddenly it is taken away by this alien force.

It's all jumbled now with the time travel. General Zod is suddenly around a whole generation earlier. You do wonder if they wanted him on the show so much, why didn't they just set it in Jor-El's time. But they probably will get rid of him, so that he doesn't live out the rest of his days on Krypton, watching himself be born!

I think this was my favorite episode so far.

Mama Zod knows what’s up. I hope we do get to see their version of the Phatom Zone. Her action scene was fun to watch.

Cool to see some background with Adam.

Happy that Dev didn’t die... yet. Wonder who was watching him getting rescued.

Brainiac is cold-blooded.

An interesting ending to the episode.

Enjoying this Brainiac a lot. He'd better take Kandor at the end of the season.

Episode felt a bit convoluted to me and not as compelling as the last couple. I just really liked the attemped coup storyline. The rebellion against Brainiac is exciting but it just feels like it jumped all over the place.

To me it feels like there was a more streamlined version of the story where it is just about Krypton and the different classes/guilds and there was an attempted coup against the actual Voice of Rao - not Brainiac. Jayna-Zod and Daron and Nyssa Vex would've been involved but without future Dru-Zod and Adam Strange etc thrown in. Where it's more about Seg leading some sort of rebeliion from the underclass. As I said, this episode just jumps around all the time having to cater to all these side plots (like Strange) and that breaks some of the tension for me.

Next week does look exciting with the Brainiac/Kandor scenes shown in the preview. Though it still feels like they've already thrown everything and the kitchen sink in this early.

Okay, so I've got questions. Adam's tunnel - who was he speaking too, and who was that woman looking at him in that end scene? Any suspicions? I'm wondering Hawkwoman? She's been stated to appear but has yet to actually do so.
