Why would you want to hate it

The whole concept sucked to me. Another prequel show. Add the fact that it is SyFy... It had the makings of a disaster. But I never write a show off completely without giving it a chance. I thought for sure this would suck. It didn't. And I am pleasantly surprised.

Liked the episode! Adam Strange is a pretty cool character, as is Lyta, and we got to see a bit under her mother's rough exterior, which was nice!

Anyone else think that The voice of Rao could be [BLACKOUT]Brainiac? It sounds just like him from what we've seen in the previews, and it fits with the reveal the end of the episode that he's already on Krypton.[/BLACKOUT]

The second episode seemed to loosen up a bit and was for the most part enjoyable. The different plot threads are good, but sometimes it felt a bit unfocused. Seg seemed to wander around a lot (in his new snazzy outfit). Lyta got more interesting, the Fortress was pretty cool with all its tech, and I guess there is a buddy thing going with Seg, Adam and the bar guy.

Anyone else think that The voice of Rao could be [BLACKOUT]Brainiac? It sounds just like him from what we've seen in the previews, and it fits with the reveal the end of the episode that he's already on Krypton.[/BLACKOUT]

Interesting theory. He is a bit of a mystery, and it is creepy how he holds all the power. He reminds me a bit of the High Sparrow in Game of Thrones. I hope he is explained. He can't just be wandering in and out in his mask like that the whole show.

I'm enjoying this show, granted it's only been two episodes, but I can't help but wonder where they can take a second season. I'd imagine a good number of people watch this show (with the hope of) seeing a Superman, and the Brainiac arc, but once he's defeated (likely at the end of the first season) where exactly do they go from there?

What's more, Seg is expected to save his people - but we know he doesn't. Clark/Kal & Kara are the only two Kryptonians to survive, and it's not as if they can reproduce (with each other) to reform their species (would be a bit odd).

I've heard (or rather, read) that Hawkgirl is due to appear at some point? Presumably she'll be from the future too?

I can see the reason why people may think this (cause ~ mystery behind the mask) but Brainiac is merely interested in collecting/saving cities, he's not exactly all that bothered about integrating into their cultures.

This episode felt less like a rush as the first one. So things seemed smoother to me.

Momma Zod was so happy about Baby Zod. If not for the mercy line in the first episode, I thought we were gonna hear something about kneeling...

I don’t know why, but I always laugh at how they just be ripping patches off their clothing in this show.

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm interested in learning about the culture and such, and in some ways, this'll likely play out [similar] to the Gotham TV series, however with Gotham, they've ample characters that we can relate too, so we've got somewhat of a kickstart. The same cannot really be said for Krypton though!

Oh don't get me wrong, I'm interested in learning about the culture and such, and in some ways, this'll likely play out [similar] to the Gotham TV series, however with Gotham, they've ample characters that we can relate too, so we've got somewhat of a kickstart. The same cannot really be said for Krypton though!

In future seasons they could eventually move to space exploration. Like Jor-El said in MOS "like our ancestors did." There is plenty opportunity to really explore sci-fi on the planet Krypton and outside it. There's a lot they can do. Kryptonians are still in the denial stage about alien life plus they have the Phantom Zone etc. So we can watch Krypton culture evolve. Plus it looks like they could be visited by more aliens like Hawkwoman and even the GL Corps.

I wonder if they are going to explain why Adam strange doesn't have any of his gear.

It would be cool to see his suit.

I don't think the show will deliberately try to link to previous shows like Smallville. I wonder if we will ever see a young Jor-El, Jor-El being born.

It would be interesting to see whether they will ever reference the destruction of Krypton, how this show would end.

From a January article talking about Hawkwoman, Adam Strange and other stuff:

Following the Krypton panel at the Television Critics Association press tour, we asked Krypton Executive Producer Cameron Welsh if Hawkwoman is still on the table for the show.

“Absolutely,” he told us in the scrum. “Like we say, the door is open. And that’s why we’re so fortunate on this show, working with DC and having Geoff Johns involved, because we have a lot to play with.”

During the panel itself, both Johns and Executive Producer David S. Goyer touted how Krypton is a “gateway” into the DC science fiction universe. But that’s not all.

“Because the Phantom Zone figures into this show, which means we can definitely go into other times and other planets eventually. Even the inclusion of Adam Strange- that should to tip you off that it’s not just going to be set on Krypton,” Goyer said.

“If the fans have read it in Mystery in Space, it will probably end up in our show,” Johns added. “We were talking about the Omega Men earlier. Like, any of these characters will eventually show up in Krypton.”

Finally got around to watching the first episode, and as was readily apparent from the trailers there's nothing remarkable about the show. The writing, acting, costumes and cinematography are all pretty poor, though the sets and VFX are surprisingly decent. There's also some weird lore/plot decisions, too. Basically it's just another CW show, only with a slightly higher budget. I doubt I'll make the effort to watch any more episodes.

I do have a quick question, though. Why is the show essentially a cheap knockoff of Man of Steel's Krypton instead of a genuine prequel to the film? Is there a rights dispute between SyFy and WB? Why does the show use so many elements from the film but just slightly tweaked?

But then, for whatever reason, that changed. Whether that's a result of Goyer, Geoff Johns, or whoever, it was conceived as a prequel to Man of Steel.

I remember it being a prequel and suddenly we got the time travel/Adam Strange stuff. This does open doors to the rest of the DC universe.

But I still wonder what a straight prequel would've been like. It would've been all about the different Guilds, all about the House of El's 'heresy' wanting to study alien life and interstellar travel etc. I guess that could've been good enough by itself but I wonder whether they just decided that it wasn't?

The first episode did feel like it was doing a lot, trying to cram the El story and link it to Adam Strange and Superman etc.

I just still wonder if it was just about Kryptonian culture whether it would've been better or worse...
