Jessica Jones Krysten Ritter is Jessica Jones!

Confirmed.

Marvel and Netflix are proud to announce that Krysten Ritter will star in "Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015 following "Marvel's Daredevil."

Ritter will play Jessica Jones, first introduced in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos' classic ALIAS comic series. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

"Krysten brings both the hard edge and the vulnerability the role demands," said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg. "We can't wait for fans to see her in action, coming to Netflix in 2015."

"Krysten Ritter has the type of range, spanning the comic to the tragic, that makes for the stuff of the best Marvel heroes," said Jeph Loeb, Executive Producer/Marvel's Head of Television. "As Jessica Jones, Krysten will bring one of the most beloved new characters of the past decade to life in a way we know will delight her longtime fans and introduce her to many more."

Best known for her roles in "Breaking Bad," "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23," and "Veronica Mars," she will next star alongside Amy Adams, Christoph Waltz, and Jason Schwartzman in Director Tim Burton's "Big Eyes" this Holiday season.

"Marvel's A.K.A. Jessica Jones" is produced by Marvel Television in association with ABC Studios for Netflix.

So it is called AKA Jessica Jones after all, and not just Jessica Jones.

I'm okay with Ritter in the role, although I would've liked Palmer. Ritter was decent on The Blacklist a few months back.

I don't care what anyone says, I ain't calling it "AKA" Jessica Jones

I don't think most people will either; it will more than likely be referred to as Jessica Jones or "JJ"(or worse yet, something like JessJones or JeJo). Is it really that bad, though? They can't use Alias for obvious reasons.

I think they're calling it AKA Jessica Jones for 2 reasons: 1) to hint at the Alias comic, and 2) for marketability, otherwise it could just sound like that movie "John Carter", which sounded a bit dull and didn't give much of a feel of what it was about.

Of course, that second reason might go out the window when it comes to the Luke Cage TV series. Will they call it just that, or Luke Cage: Power Man/ Luke Cage: Hero For Hire?

Krysten Ritter is such a good choice. I'm so happy with this.

Not only can she do the drama but like the best marvel castings she can also do the humour

Love her. Not sure if she fits, but I like her.

AKA makes the title more interesting to people that haven't a clue.

I think the "Marvel" in front of the name would have been good enough, but whatever. I'll get used to it.

So now that you think that, and now that you're a mod, how about changing the forum name to "Marvel's AKA Jessica Jones"? :cwink:

Yeah, this^.

Also, what is "bad" about the "AKA"?

AKA Jessica Jones love it. Sounds a lot better than just Jessica Jones imo.

Why are you all so shocked that it's called "A.K.A. Jessica Jones"?

I mean, that's been the title since it went into development in 2009; when the MCU was just starting.

No, that's the title it was back then, but then when they originally announced the Netflix series, they referred to it simply as "Jessica Jones", as if they'd dropped the AKA, and that's what they've called it all this time. Now it's gone back to that. So it hasn't been part of the title the whole way through.

I'll see what I can do brother. :yay:

Thanks!

I'm glad Krysten Ritter is on twitter, so when the show is filming we'll be able to stalk the production better.

Regardless of what the official title is, I'm sure I'll keep on calling it Alias out of force of habit.

Glad they've made the casting official!

I like the chick they cast well enough.

I like the title too. I just hope they make a compelling story.

My guess as to the reason they're calling it AKA Jessica Jones is to have a similar title to the original comic run without calling it Alias to avoid confusion with the show Alias.

Not bad. Not bad at all.

Ritter was my pick from the short-list of names. I'm really looking forward to these Netflix shows and I hope that they've locked in all the talent to at least make some background appearances in future Marvel movies (i.e. saving people in the background as Captain America and Iron Man battle Thanos).

Anyone looking to see more of Krysten Ritter before this show airs could do a lot worse than checking out Don't Trust the B___ In Apartment 23 on Netflix. Obviously the tone is very different from what AKA Jessica Jones will likely be, but as a star vehicle for a Ritter, it's a great showcase.

I bet a logo reveal will show that they can make an interesting use of the A.K.A. in the title as well.

I do hope that it's Luke Cage: Hero for Hire. The problem with Luke Cage: Power Man is it's an alias, not a subtitle. I think it just comes off as clunky.

Anyway, I like the title AKA Jessica Jones. I was surprised because I thought they had abandoned it, but it's good to have it and to tie in more with the comic. I'm probably going to be too lazy to call it that, though.
