Action-Adventure Kung Fury!

That movie was epic, simply epic. I seriously can't think another word to describe it.

I thought this would be right up my street, but I just couldn't get into it.

I could nitpick it and say that some things were too exaggerated or they were trying way too hard, but **** it, Kung Fury is fun as ****. Best movie of the year? No, obviously not. Raddest movie of the year? Heck yes.

I would love to see what kind of nonsense these guys could get up to with a real budget.

Entertaining short flick.

LOVED IT!

Did all of the jokes land? No..but whatever.

This was supposed to be exaggerated! It's not like 80's films...it's like how we remember 80's films being (even though they weren't actually like that).

I actually wish it were a bit longer. I have a hard time calling this a movie. If it did count as a movie (which it doesn't), I think it'd be my second favorite movie of the year thus far, based solely on the smile that never left my face for the entire half hour it ran.

This is a great point. I find that we tend to remember the 80's films as very corny, over-the-top, over synthesized cheese fests but they really weren't like that.

With that said, this was such a beautiful parody/homage to 80's films. It was basically an amalgam of everything you love form that era. It makes me want to go dig up some cheesy 80's cop movies to watch. Anybody got some good recommendations besides the usual suspects? (Lethal Weapon, Cobra, Beverly Hills Cop etc)

There's a few other Stallone flicks - Nighthawks, Tango & Cash which has Kurt Russell in it too.

Cop starring James Woods is quite an underrated movie.

Ridley Scott's Black Rain is one of my favs. Michael Douglas and Andy Garcia take on the Yakuza in Japan. Not really ''cheesy'' but I love it.

HA, loved this. It was like my youth all over.
Reminded me a bit of that masterpiece The Last Dragon.
Sho'nuff!

Also, there are a few other movies in this recent 80's homage/parody genre..like Man-Borg and The FP, and I liked this more than either of those.

I LOOOOVE THE LAST DRAGON. One of my favorite movies ever. It is just pure 80s cheese.:woot:

This was great. Very well made.

Also loved the additional videos on YT - Hackerman's tutorial and Hasselhof's music video

Man, I need more movies like this. Are there any others out there?

I'm not talking about the obvious ones like Grindhouse, Machete, etc.

The closest I've seen are the ones I mentioned above. The FP is better than Man-Borg, but neither are as insane as Kung Fury.

Also...not an homage to the 80's, but Black Dynamite is a hilarious homage to blaxploitation films. It has nothing to do with the topic...I mention it because it's awesome.

So this is on Netflix now. Apparently it's also been on YouTube for months but it had completely dropped off my radar. Anyway, it's really worth checking out! It's only 30 minutes, which is probably a good thing because anything longer than that and it might get stale. But I highly recommend it. The scene at the beginning with the arcade game is fantastic.

Checked this out again over the weekend, had just as much fun the second time around. I firmly maintain this should be a Netflix miniseries.

"Oh Hoff9000, you son of a b***h!"

Hitler: "We're so alike we could finish each others-"
Kung Fury: "-Balls!"
Hitler: "huh.."
*Kung Fury delivers a most epic uppercut to Hitlers junk*

"Hackerman, he's the most powerful hacker in the world."

"Yeah, that's my bicep"

What makes this brilliant is I already did not like Hitler, but having him kill people Kung Fury knows makes it... personal.

Eleni Young is straight up gorgeous.

It was on my second viewing that I notice she was the girl from the beginning. Heh.

Finally saw it. Better dino action than Jurassic World had.

Overall an awesome self-aware 80' over-the-top cheese with so many funny and crazy moments, really entertaining movie. Sangberg found the right way to make it work. Cannot wait for the full length feature film.

KUNG FURY II is happening!

Published at: May 29, 2016, 12:43 p.m. CST by Muldoon

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with a fun bit of Sunday news. This past year a film went "viral." The week FUNG FURY hit the Internet it was like everywhere you turned, every time you got on Facebook, or swung by a friend's place, "Have you seen KUNG FURY? You have got to watch it!" When I first caught the film's Kickstarter Page, I thought it was for a feature, though I think it that was just wishful thinking on my end. Sure enough the film came and delivered and folks wanted more. The retro nostalgia-filled "inviting everyone in on the cheesy joke" angle has been done before, but something about David Sandberg's stab at it felt fresh, where the film didn't wear out its welcome or get tiresome. The short film did an incredible job of twisting and turning, though had a playground where it was allowed to do so. Talking Dino cops, time travel, and synth music galore... it was a gem.
Well, according to Sandberg's Twitter account, we're all getting round 2 of his FURY franchise. Can he duplicate the first film's success? Where will this one go? How long will it be? What characters can we expect to see? Is he going back to the crowd sourcing well for it? Who knows?
