Kyle Rayner issues!

I've never read a GL comic before rebirth and I've been enjoying it without problems so far.

Until I got to the first trade of the sinestro corps war, if I remember correctly Kyle was using a power ring in rebirth? But here in the opening issue of SW a couple Green Lanterns see him and utters something along the lines of: "A Green Lantern without a ring?" and the other says: "yeah he's the guardians big project - HE got the Ion in him - a living power battery". I knew about Ion, but why was Kyle a "normal" green Lantern in rebirth then? When did he become Ion again? I’m looking at my collection and I’m not missing anything?

I know I'm missing something help me?

I belive the he had the Ion powers suppresed and the ring helped him to do that. Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore since
