Transformers Lack of meaning - What's this movie about?

I'm sitting back with Roach on this one. I still say it is too soon to believe anything we see, hear, or read about this film this early in filming. I say we just sit back and wait.

The toy SS looked like a bug with a beard and for the street mockup one his head looked like a lightbulb. Either way the starscream fans are screwed!
They already changed it once. Who's to say they won't change it again? He's completely CGI so ILM could change it as many times as they wanted to.

He doesnt have to be G1 exact. Not at all. I would like to just be able to recognize him as starscream.

or should we tilt against windmills with you

Give them a call and have them jot down your thoughts on what starscream should look like to be acceptable for you. if we all do this, he'll look exactly like all of us want him to!!!!

They didn't change the basic plot did they? I mean, in the original script a nuclear Nimitz class submarine didn't come and kill the shark did it?

In the book Quint becomes entangled on the Shark and he machettes it to death as the both sink into the depths....

In the mopvie Brody throws a air canister into the sharks mouth and then shoots it causing the shark to explode.....

....yes they are so similar

I know some of ya'll will complain about me starting a new thread... but after seeing this in today's news:

Calif. sues carmakers over global warming
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060920/bs_nm/environment_autos_dc_13

I thought a discussion about some of the topics the original Transformers touched upon and how this movie completely ignores them in a day and age where they seem MORE relevant (considering what's going on in the Middle East, the energy crisis, etc.) would be nice.

I know Transformers was not Capt Planet... but it can't be denied that the overriding theme of the original cartoon was Earth as a source of energy and Decepticons pillaging it (thus destroying it)... not the Quest for The Holy Grail.

Anyone else besides me think that Transformers the movie should... I dunno... be a bit more about something?
Well it might take the fun out of it if you go too much into human details and their energies crisis!
Let them worrying about their impending extermination at the hand of Megatron
And go into details in a sequel.

Well, I think it would be so like Megatron to use his noodle to deceive the humans into thinking the Decepticons are the good guys, just like in the G1 cartoon. Of course in my mind I've devised an outline utilizing some of my fave story arcs from the cartoon series to make one plausible storyline for a sequel. But I'm staying mum on it because I don't want to give away anymore free ideas.

OR we could all just standby idly and have them feed us a big heaping bowl of crap which is what this film would have been if it wasnt for fan outcry....

When did the X3 creative team lie about anything?

Usually when people hear that a certain property is gonna be made into a movie they form an opinion of what thet movie should be like, how it should be made, how it should look.....somehow that opinion becomes fact to them that when their opinion isnt made into tthe movie the claim is that they lied to us. Like with this movie. We were told that is was gonna be BASED on G1. What people took from that was everything was gonna be like the cartoon or comics instead of focussing on the word 'BASED'. So now that they have changed somethings people feel they have been lied to.

So the fan outcry is what has made this film what it currently is? I'm curious to know what that means.

Well, if I see anymore images of blase looking Decepticons I will feel like I've been lied to.

...and considering since they seem to rail out about this movie at every turn fan outcry must have not been enough

What did they promise you as far as looks go that they are reneging on?

The original concept had Arcee as primes love interest. And I beleive prime was a firetruck.
Alot has changed....

Arcee was definately in there. But I think the firetruck was just an "idea" being batted around and was never really taken seriously AFAIK. But, yes, a lot of things have changed because of fan reaction. Soundwave being renamed, Peter Cullen... and god knows what else.

However, Don Murphy has done a great job of stringing along many folks... so reaction to some things (Bumblebee being a hot-rod) was tempered by other things ("don't worry guys Prime isn't a firetruck"). It's been a great psych experiment if you ask me.

bDE-

How much of that changing was due to fan outcry as opposed to the natural editing and revising process?

Just like a tootsie pop... the world may never know. But, really, do you think Bay would have even considered Peter Cullen if the fans couldn't care less?

Do I think that? Sure, why not?

What evidence is there to suggest it would have never dawned on him otherwise?

I'm going to just assume (which is all we're talking about here: assumptions) the guy would have at least thought to IMDB "Transformers" and take a look at who voiced Op and give him a ring.

Exactly 85.4%

So in other words: you haven't the slightest clue.

This is what fans like to do. They ***** and moan about rumors and "leaked scripts" and whatnot, and when the final product comes out they can feel like they affected some sort of change in the final product. Makes it feel more personal.

Despite that, the truth is rarely do you get cries so loud that something in a film gets Jar-Jarred

We know they (murphy/bay)check these boards so some of us have chosen to voice our opinions here. maybe they will read it and still not change a damn thing but then again maybe they will...
All I want is a good movie. If us complaining on here gets even one small thing changed then it's worth it.

Hey, I want a good movie too.

What is more productive than complaining though is to take a look at what you don't like, explain why you don't like it and do so without insulting the people making the film, assuming what you do not know, and using slogans like "raping my childhood." Instead, offer a substantive alternative to what you see as an erroneous element within the film and present it in an adult manner. (the latter part isn't necessarily directed towards you because I'm not up to speed on your posting mannerisms)
