Transformers Lack of meaning - What's this movie about?

Decypher said:
I don't feel like reading this whole thread but putting another anti-bush, anti-war, anti-america subplot into a movie is such bull****. It's been doen way too many times before and not even half the time has it came out as being honest and not cliched. If you want to watch a movie with a message, try and avoid the one with the Robot-cars from space.

Some of them are trucks or planes.

All true sci-fi movies have something to say about the human condition. After reading the script, I'm hardpressed to find any meaningful relevance in this movie... except that having a "cool" car gets you hot chics.

what do these movies say about the human condition, cflash:

Alien
Predator
wing commander
the fly

Why don't you tell us your interpretation? You have picked some truly prime sci-fi movies that have many things to say about the human condition (save for Wind Commander, I have not seen that one).

why would i ask cflash if i intended on answering the question myself? you're dumb.

I was wondering if you were asking because you didn't understand the concept of the human condition or because you really wanted his opinion. I would have thought it might have been the latter but your [sarcasm]intelligent reply[/sarcasm] indicates it is most likely the former.

wing commander sucked ass...

worse than Gozilla2006's precious "GINO" or "CINO"

As if the McGuffin / Followship of the Ring story hasn't been done either. Oh yea... it was done in Followship of the Ring.

One Cube to rull them all.

But, seriously, welcome back Tad.

Yeah a Mcduffie story has no place in a Transformers movie.......Gee wasnt the premise of the 80's movie to keept the Autobot Matrix of Leadership from ther Decepticons and Unicron

wasnt there also a Creation Matrix that could bring machinery and Transformers to life???

Actually the purpose of the animated film was to stop Unicron from destroying Cybertron, which is why they show him destroying that planet in the intro, using foreshadowing as a hint of where this story is headed. The Matrix just happened to have enough power to destroy him, but it wasn't the ultimate goal of the characters. Sure, everyone wanted it, but they wanted to use it, not just have it. A McGuffin is there simply for everyone to have, but it serves no real purpose.

Now, one could argue that since Sam uses it to kill Megatron in the live-action film, the Allspark has a purpose, but that is not so, since anyone could kill Megatron as he is not a god-like, all-powerful being.

Yes.... "The Movie" (which, BTW, I've never been a huge fan of), which came out THREE years after Transformers the toon and comic.

Besides, in the comic book the Creation Matrix doesn't fit the true definition of a MacGuffin. Not only they do they NOT constantly quarrel over it (like Castle Greyskull in a simpler franchise of the time) but it serves a function OTHER than just to move the story along.

Why is the Allspark a MacGuffin in THIS story based on the script that we've seen? It could easily be replaced with a renegade prisoner with "valuable information," an "important" piece of computer code, Megatron's Favorite Boot of Power. In other words... it's largely unimportant to the actual events that occur in the movie.

No the purpose of the movie was to go after the Matrix. The Autobots took off to hide it and the Decepticons were trying to find it. Cybertron wasnt threatened until Galvatron tried to betray Unicron

 After Optimus died, Autobot city got a message from Spike and Bumblebee describing Unicron attacking one of the moons, and then they got cut off when Unicron attacked their moon. SO, the Autobots decided to go to Cybertron to try and use the Matrix to stop Unicron because Hot Rod had a feeling that it could do this, another foreshadowing into him becoming the next Prime. The new Decepticons simply made the escape from Earth that much quicker.

But, the purpose was not to hide the Matrix, it was to get to Cybertron to stop Unicron and help their friends.

Yeah. Sorry Roach... it's been a while, but I don't remember the Decepticons every trying to "find" the Matrix. Maybe I missed it? In fact they couldn't have cared less about it. It wasn't until Unicron pretty much forced a dying Megatron into retrieving it more than half-way through the movie. In this case, the Matrix of Leadership is far from a MacGuffin.

Which, of course, begs the question... other than the usual "we're evil" why the heck were they attacking Autobot City in the beginning... Earth's last defense? Um, I think you know the answer... hint: it gets poured into big transparent boxes that come out of Soundwave's chest. :cwink:

(at least that's what I remember)

How did the cube/Allspark get off Cybertron in the first place?

In the 86 movie? It didn't. The "Cube"/Allspark is not in the movie.

Well I suppose since the autobots and decepticons are at war, if one needs to look at meaning, it might even be a commentary about war. About the ugliness, and the pain and terror which are existent in times of war. And in a way, how the autobots and decepticons have brought the war upon our world, their war, our world etc. I'm probarbly wrong, I don't really care either anyways if I am or not. Just my two cents. I suppose once we actually get to see the movie and not make assumptions from some old draft, rumours and/or wild guesses then it would be better to talk about the meaning within the movie.

i'm sorry but you're wrong. CFlash has already stated that this movie has no meaning what-so-ever.

No. It's your posts that have no meaning. You're a disturbed sad troll.

i'm just trying to help you out, dude! you know, letting you know i got your back and **** on the internet. you are 100% correct in every opinion that you state as fact, and i just want you to know that i support you, i will always support you, and i... i love you, CFlash.

I will take the high road and assume you mean for the live-action film.

We don't know. It's a plothole, and since the Allspark is a McGuffin, we will never learn the answer to it because McGuffin's need no reason to exist. It simply was lost to space and ended up here.

i am willing to bet anything i own that when this movie comes out they will explain how the allspark got to where it is.

It travelled through space somehow. Duh.

Optimus dying was pretty much at the begining of the movie. Megatron/Galvatron's mission to retrieve the Matrix was also pretty much at the begining. When Galvatron destroyed Starsream their mission at thet time was to retrieve the Matrix or Unicron would punish him with the red pain.

Because he (Unicron) knew it was the only thing that could destroy him.

In any case, for me the movie pretty much ended once Optimus died. I couldn't have cared less about any of the adventures of flame-painted, corny, Hot-rod / Rodimus Prime.
