Lack Of Tension?

Superman isnt only vulnerable to Kryptonite. He is also vulnerable to magic, to red sun radiation, to Parasite's power sucking powers, and to getting beat up by very powerful villains such as those found in his rogues gallery (brainiac, mongul, darkseid, metallo, etc). He doesnt need to be depowered since his rogues gallery and his stories are appropriate for his powers. Its not like he is fighting the Penguin.
Totally Earle, kryptonite isnt his ownly weakness like u said and he doesnt really need to be depowered or what not. Maybe have him just be a set power level. Or like how smallville did it show he wasnt as powerful at one point but over time(in a film series we see in a triology) he gets faster/stronger/etc.... Then written the right way red sun radiation, magic, and foes like brainiac/mongul/darkseid/ and even doomsday could be some epic throwdowns.

As i said, his villains are proportionate to his powers. He doesnt fight the Penguin and Batman doesnt fight Brainiac. So it works.

Building tension in a Superman movie should have almost nothing to do with the level of Superman's powers beyond the fact that Superman probably shouldn't just be able to outright save the day with no effort. It should have to do with the situation, period, and how it is executed. There are all KINDS of ways to build tension in the context of a Superman story.

totally guard we just hope they can figure out soemthing good.

Is it just me or is everyone here missing the point? Superman is EMOTIONALLY vulnurable!

That's the great appeal of the Superman myth. You have a person who can seemingly accomplish anything and yet he's riddled with the same emotional, human faults that we all have. His character is a metaphor for humanity. He represents the "superman" in all of us, if we only beleived in ourselves. That's how to create a great Superman story that will connect to people and make him "relevant." Have him lose faith in himself. That's his vulnurability and that's the way into the story, not slugging it out with Doomsday.

yea there is the emotional aspect too that could be used.

put superman in situations where it leaves the audience guessing how he would use his powers to save the day.

They tried doing that in Superman Returns and that movie sucked, you that and sense of physical danger, because just having Supes being emotional vulnerable by itself is dull. You need both, or the movie will be too brainless or too boring.

The hero has to be physical danger in some point in the movie, look at the Crow, he was invincible till the end of the movie and that's where the tension and drama really kicked in. Same with Superman, if he isn't in some physical danger in parts of the movie, then where is the action supposed to come from?

The kinda tension I would like to see is maybe have a villain, or villains, fighting with Superman in a knockdown drag out fight. i'm talking the kinda fight that has superman with black eyes, busted lip and nose, and his suit is ripped. Make it look like he is just about defeated, but we would all know better.

Maybe the tension could come from bombs being planted in several major cities by the villain(s), and the only way to stop them is by having superman defeating the villain(s) first.

No, no, Superman Returns is the worst reference point in the history of Superman stories. I'm not talking about some dull, sappy story that doesn't know which direction to go in. That film is a disgrace. I'm talking about emotionally vulnurable ala Superman For All Seasons.
