Lady Sif Casting Thread (Jaimie Alexander)

That's part of why I like Cobie Smulders for Sif. She's like 5'9". Respectable warrior goddess size.

Also, people putting that pic of Sif next to Portman and saying she looks all right should probably be aware that that's Sif as whatever the Asgardian equivalent to a teenager is. Meaning she's like half a foot shorter than she'll grow up to be and her figure hasn't filled out completely. For comparison, here's what Thor (who's a little older than Sif) looks like in that period, by the same artist, no less:

Not a scrawny lad by any means, but certainly not as big as we'd like to see Thor on the screen.

I was posting that more for face, and costume.

Meh, there are so many tall actresses who fit the role physically and are still good actresses that I can't help being disappointed that Portman's even being considered.
Exactly. So many women would be better suited for Sif that can act. This choice is really bad.

The female lead in this movie is Sif. If Portman is up for the female lead, she's up for Sif. I have no idea why so many movie "news" sites are complicating this with mentions of Jane Foster, Enchantress, and a female Loki

I think this is good news if she is cast. She is a talented actress when approaching the right role.

Actually she was my Betty Ross choice before I found out Liv Tyler was doing it.

I think I'd rather have the enchantress in the movie.

Please let Marvel come to their senses. She doesn't fit the role, she's not that good an actress & she's ugly.

There are so many better choices that NP.

Disagree.

On both the looks and the talent.

Portman as Sif would be awesome.

Natalie Portman is a lot of things, but ugly ain't one of them

She'd be fine as any normal woman in the Marvel universe, really. But Sif? The Asgardian equivalent of an Amazon? Eh.

Someone mentioned Rebecca Hall earlier... she seems to have a bigger "build" than Portman and she has done roles with substance. I'd go somewhere in that direction.

There is no doubt that Natalie Portman is an incredibly talented actress. But considering her two weaknesses are a lack of physical presence and trouble with accents... casting her as a Nordic warrior woman doesn't seem like the wisest of ideas.

Now I hate to be predictable but...

Natalie Portman would make a great Jane Foster, but at 5 feet 3 she is a little petite for Sif. Rhona Mitra at 5 feet 6 makes more sense to me in the Sif role, looks buff, and has already shown sword skills in Underworld. With Donald Blake now in this Thor movie, it makes sense to have Jane Foster be a part of the movie.

I love Portman too but sorry she's too short. Alyssa Milano too for that fact. There are some taller women out there come on already. Taylor Cole, Cobie Smulders, Rebecca Hall, Alana de la Garza, Kristanna Loken the list goes on...

and doesnt look like that anymore

Except she's 40

And Robert Downey Jr. is 43...

and Edward Norton is about to be 40.

Dye her hair jet Black and she'll still look the same, or pretty close. Its not like she has wrinkles or anything. Her hair is light brown again now, and she looks just like she did before she played Xena.

^She's too old now, and if they're going after names like Natalie Portman, she's got less than 0% chance. They'll get an actress mid 20's to go along with Skars or whomever else may get cast as Thor.

I kind of wouldn't want Lucy Lawless as Sif anyway. She's Xena. That's all people are gonna see if she plays another sword-wielding chick in leather armor.

hmm... Keira Knightley? she's familiar with using a sword already, heh-heh-heh....
