TXV: Finally, Channing Tatum said recently that you asked him to come to Vancouver and he read twice for a role in the third film that was ultimately cut. Can you tell us who you had him read for?

LSD: Channing actually read in Los Angeles, not in Vancouver, during our casting process. And he read for Gambit when we thought Gambit might be in the movie.

:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

The tease, the broken promises, the lies, my heart keeps on breakin'... he was in, why did they have to cut him?

(also goes to show that Simon Kinberg isn't being completely honest when he says that Gambit was never really a part of the movie, considering that people actually read for the part)

^ You can find the rest of the interview with Lauren Shuler Donner at this link to the xverse. It's not the "X-Men 7, 8, 9, 10" one (I don't think it's been posted)

and to answer your question bout the dvd release, its december

Never mind... we'll see him in X4 !

too bad gambit wasnt in the movie... sighs! he would have rocked!

i wouldnt like channing as gambit

Channing Tatum wouldn't have made a good Gambit in my book. :o

Plus, the dvd release will probably be sooner than December. Movies come out really quick on DVD now, hit or not.

Would you have really wanted him as gambit anyway? I just couldnt imagine him as Gambit at all

sorry, but im not familiar w/ this channing guy... who is he?

Channing is about the right age for Anna, but yeah, I don't see him as Gambit. I wonder what lines he read.

It's not HIM as Gambit that I'm disappointed I won't see...

It's the fact that Gambit wasn't cut out as early as Kinberg has led us to believe... actors came in to audition for the part!

Gambit was promised to us since before X2, and when we didn't get him there, the promises were that he'd be around the next time. This is the next time, he was in the original drafts, and they even auditioned actors for the part, and they still decided to cut him.

It's just hard to not feel like these guys really don't give a flying **** about the character or his fans, and have no remorse what so ever about leading us on for 3 years, only to just drop him like a bad habit, and expect us to accept their lies because they had no other choice.

(

Yeah, there was rumours about Gambit getting cast back in July last year...so this must've been one of the guys trying out for the part.

I wonder what small role Gambit would've played. He probably would've been one of Magneto's thugs...which would've meant a quick fight scene at the end.

X2 hit theatres on May 2, 2003, and wasn't released to DVD until November 25, so the X-Men movies have precedence of waiting for a long period of time before releasing the DVD.

Which sucks, because the wait from theatre to DVD was much more painful for me with X2 than the wait for it to hit theatres...

And it will be the same this time around :( I don't wanna wait until December.

Speaking of December, where did you hear December, kol?

I think it'll be Mid/Late November on DVD, right after Thanksgiving some time to capitalize on the start of Christmas shopping season begining.

What I'm worried about is that they took Gambit's role, and just put Psylocke in the role.

It's known that Psylocke is with the Brotherhood, and it's rumored that she'll make the switch to the X-Men at the end. That's what Gambit's role was supposed to be. And I have a bad feeling they just swapped Gambit for Psylocke, because of some ridiculous assumption that Gambit can't be a supporting character, but he absolutley, positively, must be in a lead role, or can't be in it at all.

I hate the "all or nothing" logic. It's total b.s., and hypocritical.

Pyro, Iceman, Colossus, Beast, Kitty Pryde, they all had cameos before they got their full fledged roles in a later movie, and at least 2 out of those 5 (argueable 4 out of the 5, depending on what point of view you want to take) are just as important, if not moreso, than Gambit is. What makes Gambit subject to this all or nothing rule, when it never applied before?

That's why I feel like these guys really don't care about the character or his fans, and really don't care that we've been led on, strung along, and lied to for the past 3 years. They "can't find room", and we just have to accept that as a reason why they can't keep their promises to add a fan favorite, while making room for Quill, Arclight, and Multiple Man, and all the while probably giving the role the character was supposed to have to Psylocke...

Yes, I am mad about this. Yes I know I should be over it, as the movie is out in just over a month, and there's nothing I can do about it, and Gambit's been known to not be in the movie for quite awhile now. And yes, the movie is gonna be amazing without Gambit (just as the 1st 2 were), but when I think about how it was handled, and how Gambit SHOULD have been in this one, I just realize that it will never truly be the movie it should have been. And I will be extremely P.O.'d if Psylocke's character arc is indeed to start with the Brotherhood and then defect to the X-Men.

Quit being so negative. To me it obviously shows that Kinberg CARES about Gambit so much he wants him to be a character in the vain of Nightcrawler or Beast and there just hasn't been room to give him that relevance to the story. They don't wanna halfass Remy like Storm was and end up giving everyone GINO. I don't know about you but I don't want characters shoved into a movie just because "people want to see him". If X4 gets made (depends on how well X3 does) we WILL see Gambit and I think everyone will be pleased.

Actually I reckon Gambit, Cannonball and Avalanche (from AICN's Prison Break scene) were replaced by Arclite, Multipleman, and probably Psylocke as well...

I can see that.

The thing is, Gambit doesn't HAVE to be some frontline character like Nightcrawler or Beast. A supporting role works well for him, and also allows them to expand on his character should they make a 4th movie.

Anyways, who says he will be in should there be a 4th movie? The talk after X2 was if they made a 3rd movie, we WOULD see him them. This is the 2nd time now we've been told "he'll be in the next one"

And no, I won't be pleased, because come X4, he still won't be used properly. He'll be used as Wolverine's replacement, and be fighting alongside X-Men: The Lizzie McGuire Years, because they couldn't get any of the actors back, ditched all the characters that matter, and have a core of Kitty, Iceman, Gambit, and Jones.

hmm... probably. but i think we will be seeing more cameo's in that prison break scene so keep your eyes open...

Anyway, shouldn't this be in the official Gambit thread?

Yeah it should, it will help keep alive the official gambit thread.

It's a Donner interview. It deserves it's own thread :)

No, because this was actually to provide a link to the Q&A with Lauren Shuler Donner over on the xverse, so people could check it out.

Being a Gambit fan, I merely isolated the part that mentioned his character, and a discussion on that has developed.

But the Q&A is about more than just Gambit, and despite the heavy Gambit talk, this thread is about the Q&A, not about Gambit.
