Captain Marvel Lee Pace is Ronan

Oh man, I am so happy about this news, Marvel our beautiful bastards!

I LOVE the character in the comics, cosmic Marvel is my favourite, so while I enjoyed his role in GOTG (and actually feel he is an under rated villain), I was hoping we would see more of him at some point. I hope he has a good sized role here, so we can understand why he hates Xandar so much in GOTG.

I REALLY hope we get a characterization here that's more in line with the comics. This is the perfect 2nd chance opportunity for an awesome character from the comics who got the short end of the stick in the movies. Hopefully they run with it.

And don't waste Lee Pace. He's awesome too.

Agreed. This is a chance to see Ronan, the soldier, before he inevitably accused his own people of being weak and leaving their ranks. I think the seeds of that happening should be planted here. But, when we first see him, he should be closer to his comic book version.

Wonder if his look will stay the same or if it'll change a little bit.

He may not have the face paint this time around. At least not at first.

I hope we get him as the Accuser and enforcer for The Supreme Intelligence. I don't want to see 'Kree cadet Ronan'.

He was a throwaway in gotg. Its cool that they are giving him a second shot.

Pace did a really good job with what he was given in GotG. Really menacing through his voice alone.

I am almost certain we will.

Aw, we missed a good opportunity to call this thread “you don’t mess with the Ronan”!

Anyway, very exciting news. Can’t wait to see how it turns out

Just because he's in the movie doesn't mean he will be the main villain.

In fact, I hope he's not. But a cameo that shows him seemingly impressive and in a place of prominence would be great.

None of us are expecting him to be the main villain. But, I am also not expecting him to appear in only a 1 scene cameo. Since he is in the cast list on the press releases, he should have some type of supporting role.

I don't think anyone is expecting Ronan to be the main villain.

I think people are expecting Ronan to possibly play a somewhat prominent role on the Kree side of the Kree Skrull War.

He will be a supporting character in the movie and possibly working with/for the villain, so the opportunity is there to showcase us a side of Ronan not previously explored before.

I mean, they can really make him "the Accuser" this time without him being the main villain. In GOTG Ronan's basically on his own, as the Kree aren't supporting his actions against Xandar.

If this movie is set during the Kree Empire's height of power, he can be there working for whoever's in charge, be it the SI or anyone else.

It's one of the things that bugged me the most about Guardians: Ronan's basically totally in-character, but he doesn't have the backing of the Kree overall?

MCU Kree (well, outside of AoS) have basically just been depicted as really advanced blue-skinned humans. Lame. Ronan's a fanatic, Gunn? Duh, man, the Kree as a whole basically are! Why the hell would the Kree of all people be signing diplomatic treaties? Their whole thing is conquer, assimilate, find the next guys to conquer, assimilate, rinse & repeat. For the supreme intelligence, raaah!

So, yeah, hopefully wartime Kree are all a little more...Ronan-esque. Not just human dudes with spaceships. Go full-on Roman Empire with these MF'ers.

Just because he's in the movie doesn't mean he will be the main villain.

I would love to see him get a bit more nuance. More of an antogonist with a sense of ‘why does he do the stuff he does’ thing. Rather than just a howling cartoonish gi joe villain

There shouldn't really be any "why" with Ronan. "You're an enemy of the Kree, I accuse you, die ****er!" is basically his whole deal.

How he should be.

Only need the why for ho he felt betrayed by the treaty and to see his family get killed. It would be something crazy if he had to accuse his father and had no choice because it was his job.

I really like the way he was written by abnett during annihilation though. Like he’s got his own code of ethics and idea of nobility. I reckon there’s definitely a lot more you can do with him

I can't remember much about that arc. What extent does the nobility stuff go to? I can't really see Ronan sparing someone who's honorable & brave, if they're honorable & brave but still opposing the Kree. Surely his fanatical zealot stuff wins out over respecting someone.

He’s a little bit more like a Samurai with a rigid sense of justice that’s unbreakable. It’s a great run that’s worth a read especially when he starts to question himself or soften up a bit

I hope Ronan is handled better this time a round. Lee Pace is a fantastic actor, but he was utterly wasted in GotG, one of the worse villains the MCU has had. Hope the improve the make-up/costume so his face and body language are more visible.

Ehh, I thought Ronan was fine in Guardians. There wasn't much to it three-dimensions wise, but he's that type of character anyway. He was intimidating, had lots of screen presence, looked great, was in-character. Definitely not the worst MCU villain.

It's more Gunn's handling of the Kree overall that sort of bugs me. Kree shouldn't be signing goddamn peace treaties or coming off as just really advanced humans. Needed all of that warrior-race conqueror stuff in play.

It would be neat to see the classic green costume, but I'm not holding my breath.
