Left 4 Dead 2

is this GAMER speculation... or DEVELOPER insight???

It's the same engine and tools modified, it's been that way since Halflife 2.
Building a new engine from scratch would dramatically increase the development time, it's how they managed to put out Team Fortress 2, Day Of Defeat, Episode 1, Episode 2, Portal and left4dead in such short time spans, it's an engine being built upon than rebuilt.

yes but the AI director.. can now tell how well you are doing in the game and CHANGE paths.. add waves of infected.. change locations of health and weapons... im not a game designer... but i think thats a HUGE step.. and not so sure.. could be DL'ed from the net

:funny:

I get what you mean, but seeing the HL2 episodes and "short time span" in the same sentence was just too much. :awesome:

Episode 2 was developed alongside Portal and Team Fortress 2. Wouldn't be surprising if the Episode 3 is being developed with mutlple games.
I think Telltale games have done a much better job with episodic content.

Has anyone seen the Arma II engine? It's incredible. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8KK6Fo3Y0AU

I wish it was licensed out. It would be great for a game like Left4dead, the source engine can't really handle large environments, even though Left4dead 2 is supposedly larger, it will probably remain linear in nature with narrow paths.

Holy snickerdoodles, that is pretty amazing.

I wonder how much longer it'll take Valve to develop a new engine. Probably with Half-Life 3. And we're probably still gonna be waiting on HL2: Episode 3 for like another year or two. :csad:

thats FRICKIN HUGE:wow:

i dont know if L4D would require that much space.. as the closed in/cornered aspect works for the thriller parts of the game.. but

i wouldnt mind having those amounts of NUMEROUS onslaughts of infected:wow:

I think it comes out this week. I probably won't buy it unless there's achievements. I'll be busy with MUA2/Halo:ODST & I can wait until L4D2 comes out.

Holy **** I didn't even know that a new campaign was coming! Now I gotta get back into L4D. Was looking around and I found this vid telling you alittle more about the Spitter. She will definitely be a major pain in the ass.

they changed her a bit, her spit is now like greenish acid that does massive damage per second, and when u kill her she leaves a small pool of acid.

This ban is stupid. You're gonna come and tell me the continent once known as home to deported British prisoners balks at a game where you kill incurable zombies bent on tearing the Survivors' guts out? Best part:

* The game contains violence that is high in impact and is therefore unsuitable for persons aged under 18 to play.

The max rating for a Australian game is "MA15+." Putting aside our simple math, which tells us 18 is a greater number than 15: Why should underaged gamers be considered while determining if this gets a release? Valve has never targeted kids in L4D ads, to the best of my knowledge. If an older person buys them a mature game, that adult is at fault. It's not the game's fault for having mature themes intended for- get this!- a mature audience. Yes, young kids play violent video games. That can be a very bad thing. But moves like this encourage serial code cracks and other displays of piracy, which only hurts the industry the government should be working in tandem with.

That sounds like I'm angry. I'm not. I just find the reasons for this ban really, really stupid.

That's....that's just stupid. They're freakin' zombies trying to kill you! I can understand about GTA because you can just about everyone in it, but these things are trying to kill you're not going around murdering innocent people!

Yeah, welcome to us Australian Gamers pain :(. It's so freakin stupid. There are a million arguments against the current game rating system, and the arguments have been going for ages... So many things get knocked back... No Dark Sector, no chems in Fallout, no dismemberment in practically everything except Gears, Ninja Gaiden and Wolverine... It contradicts itself all the time too, like the rating decision entirely depends on which fat, ignorant bureaucrat is looking at games now.

why cant they at least release the release date for Crash Course???:cmad:

It's been released I think (the date). I can't remember it.

Not sure if anyone saw this but it gives ya alittle taste of the environment that that the survivors will be dropped into.

kotaku and gametrailers..

i read it on the l4d boards..

i'll post a link later today
