Leonardo DiCaprio to produce Captain Planet Movie

I don't want to cast the planeteers since they will probably cast unknowns but I can cast the villains?

Captain Blight - Michelle Phfieffer
Duke Nukem - Dominic Purcell
Hoggish Greedly - Alan Arkin
Looted Plunder - David Tennant
Verminous Skumm - David Thewlis

The power is youuurs. Sorry, had to.

Jeff Goldblum needs to return as Verminous Skumm

Using his typical stammer and ad-libbing.

"I..I I'm saying, wouldn't the world be better if I was in charge. I mean, look at me, I'm a -a giant half human, half rat. I didn't exactly have the, the most normal upbringing...it makese sense. Give it some thought...or, or don't, I'm not one to be overtly pushy."

Something tells me that this film will be fast tracked with everything politically going on now.

It would actually be interesting if between this and Aquaman we started seeing more environmental movies. They used to be everywhere when I was growing up but they went extinct before the new millennium started

I'm for Goldblum returning as Skumm or using someone like Tony Todd; just to be different

I like the rest of the cast. I kind of think Ethan Suplee could look like Greedly w/ some prosthetics. rolf moeller would be my choice for duke nukem.

I did consider Ethan originally but I thought he might be too young

Ever since I saw Lootan Plunder, I wanted Christian Slater to play him.

This thing still in discussion?
The idea will fade away, and go into oblivion.

I don't think Leo would let it die. His new mission post-Oscar is apparently trying to save the Earth from global warming and this seems to be perfect soapbox to stand from to a new younger generation. A environmentally themed superhero movie in an age where the general audience eats up superhero films. Just not sure how effective it will resonate if at all, unless they go the 'serious tone' route.

It seems like a good vehicle on paper. It could be a mix of young adult drama with superhero, four quadrant spectacle. Kinda like what PR seems to be going for. Only real risk is that they can easily get lost in the sauce with the environmental message, considering it's the crux of the story.

He should hire a good director and good script writers.
He produced Red Riding Hood, and that is one of the worst movies of the century.

Been a long time since I watched the show so I could be wrong, but isn't it Doctor Blight?

Gosh I hope not.

I was going by the description in the OP. The You Tube trailer is actually a more likely story scenario though IMO. In the OP, the linked article said something along the lines of "Captain Planet had quit trying to save the planet after years of frustration from the apathy of the people, but has to be convinced to return to action in order to save the Earth from self destruction." (I'll have to go back and re-read it, but that was the gist that I got from it.)

The problem with that particular plan is Captain Planet is a being of pure energy. It wouldn't be like in Superman 3 with him sitting in a bar drinking whiskey and ignoring peoples' cries for help. Having one of the Planeteers be the one to get fed up with humanity's greed and apathy and quit the fight makes far more sense. And Wheeler is the obvious choice for such a role, as he is the most emotional character of the group.

Oh yeh I got where you are coming from but it just seems too obvious and a bit boring IMO. I'd rather see it as an action comedy. I won't re write what I said before but its a few pages back my ideas on how I'd like to see it go.

Wilmer Valderrama for Ma-Ti!

That might be do-able with the direction they're going.

Although I'd ideally like a straightforward origin film re-imagining Captain Planet for a modern day audience like what Max Landis pitched, if they really had to go this way, I'd prefer an Action Comedy ala 21 Jump Street and get Lord and Miller in on this.

I don't think it has to be too silly or constantly poking fun at itself. I'm hoping for an Iron Man sequel type tone. It's really not a dorky concept if you love the source material enough.

I mean, how could would it be to unleash tidal waves from a ring on your finger? Or unleash the power of the sun in the same way?

problem is that protecting the planet/caring about the environment is currently unpopular. you might as well title the movie '*******.' doing it as a comedy at least allows you to hide a message somewhere.

Maybe a movie like this could make caring about the planet popular?

It is popular among the general population (check polling), just governments/big business have other interests.

It's sadly difficult to have necessary, drastic environmental change without government support.

This show is annoying and the exact thing people point to when they bring up entertainment's hamfisted attempts to engage children on the subject of the environment. I'm embarrassed that I watched this show and I still like Power Rangers to this day.

The thing i didn't like about the show was the villains. Some of them had believable motivations for their actions, mostly greed, not wanting to spend millions of dollars to safely drill for oil or dispose of their toxic waste. But others had motivations that made absolutely no sense at all. Like Doctor Blight for example, wanting to pollute the planet just for the sake of polluting the planet.

"Yes! I've done it! I've rendered the entire planet unlivable! It can no longer support human life! Now everyone will die! EVEN ME! MWAHAHAHAHA! Ummm . . . Wait a minute."
