The Amazing Spider-Man Less CG, More STUNTS In Amazing Spider-Man

Holy overreactions, Batman. They're not saying they're not using any CGI, just that they're toning it down and using more practical effects.

This article makes me worry.

Spider-Man is a ridiculously agile, acrobatic freakshow. He can do things no other human being can do. That requires CG.

Whatever you think of the Raimi films, they nailed how Spider-Man should move through the air. Things like zipping through that tiny space on the 18-wheeler, or jumping into the train and swinging on the pole? Perfect.

Thank you!
Thats what I was trying to say that.

For some reason people think that because they're using practical effects that spidey can't be agile or an acrobat and that the film is being grounded in realism because of it.

That's ridiculous! :wow: I'm excited to see the parkour stuff they're doing for this movie, that is pretty much how I envision Spidey to move about.

I never thought that I will say that.

Ahem..here I go.

Thank you, SONY!

Phew, I did it! ;)

The director would use CGI when it was even necessary. Why would you CGI Green Goblin jumping 3 to 4 feet off his glider? .

He didn't just jump from the glider. He flies in and dismounts in a single shot. It would've been cost prohibitive to build special rigging for so short a shot.

And okay.. Sony Imageworks sucks. WETA and ILM are CG perfection. So what scenes have they done that surpass Spidey vs. Ock? Hell, Peter vs. Harry for that matter.

The closest characters WETA has done to Spidey has been the Silver Surfer and the aliens in Avatar and they don't look as good in action.

The train fight couldn't have happened without CGI. None of Spidey's best action scenes could.

And- the video clips from the New York shoot if anything show why Raimi chose to go CGI. Because the stunt guy rigged up looks like just that- a stunt guy rigged up. It doesn't look like a superhuman. Spidey is supoosed to be doing deep, extreme arcs. Somersaults between catch and release. I'm not saying this movie will necessarily be bad, but geez. If they've already taken the best movie costume ever and made it the worst, it doesn't bode well.

So when does everyone think a teaser will be released?

I ask because I can't wait to see what the real stunts will look like finished. I don't see a problem with them not wanting to use CGI the majority of the time. Also, that guy they hired for the stunts, in those videos TheWiseguy487 posted, he's pretty badass and can easily pull off what needs to be done for a good amount of swinging and wall crawling moves.

I'm not sure why people are so excited about "real stunts." A real man swinging from a rope can look just as fake as bad CG if they don't do it right.

If I see Spider-Man chasing down a villain using parkour I am going to throw popcorn at the screen. Spider-Man can jump 20 feet in the air, run on walls, and swing...he doesn't parkour.
Agreed. I don't want to see parkour Spider-Man throughout the whole film. Howeve,r the parkour still still looke great, especially in those 2 videos posted. As long as there is a great combination of CGI Spdier-Man and parkour, I'll be happy. They just need to do it right.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking about that too.

Balance between GCI, parkour, AND Spidey`s power are GOOD.
If I see so called the`realism Spidey`. I am out.

Also I was thinking why would they add that ugly Nike shoe as part of Spidey outfit b.c of the realism?? Give me a break.

Sony people need to remember that Spidey is an fictional character that came from the comic. Seriously.

Exactly! The "realism" that was in Spidey form the start way back in 1962 was just to an extent. Raimi's films showed this, and I want this one to do the same.

I was looking at a couple reels of the guy that's doing the stunts for Spider-Man, and I have to say, they got the right man for the job. I mean, just watch 2:55 in the 1st video, and 0:23 in the 2nd video.

Did they really get Damien Walters? Damn, I made a thread here back before filming started suggesting him specifically, and also saying that the lack of parkour in the previous films was a missed opportunity.
If they just film this guy in a primarily blue/green gymnasium like the videos above (filled with mats, padded obstacles and trampolines) you could use simple blue screen to put him on a different background. I think this would be handy for some of the more dangerous, high up stuff.

The armored car robbery in SM 1 was one of my favorite scenes in the series. That was great use of cgi. It was so short but so awesome. Spidey really seemed untouchable to those guys, even with guns. Ever since that I've just wanted more, but never really felt like I got it. And then with the later fight in the rain before the mj/spidey kiss there was such an obvious decrease in his speed and agility, it was as though he had broken a hip between the two scenes.

Interesting, so, thats guy did only 40% and for Andrew - 60 %?
I think that Damien should deserved more than 40 %

What you stated as "facts" is actually, just your opinion. Now, that's a fact.

Yes because we all know that CGI'ing goblin to jump 1 foot in the air and on to his glider and to have spider-man jump onto a window ledge/step is genius use of implementing CGI. Give me a break.:whatever:

Raimi nailed nothing. Sure he did well in a few scenes but the majority of the time, spidey's movements were stiff and completely off.
Now, that being said, this damien walters guy who's a stuntman for this film, just look at his clips, everything he did in those clips wipes his nut-sack with anything Raimi did in trying to convey how spidey should move.

I can see a new nickname arising for this movie's version of Spider-Man if they are going for mostly practical stunts: "Peter Parkour." :p

Alright, I'm late, but they got Damien Walters to do the stunts? Sweetness!
