Superman Returns Less Than 400 Mill WW....And It Won't Break Even

And oh yes, the movie is easily going to make 400mil. Personally I'm still very shakey about this movie's boxoffice. I don't think this movie is going to as huge as half of the predictors think it's going to be, because as I see half think that Pirates 2 is going to win the summer and the other half think that SR is.

I think that it would be pretty funny if Cars beat them both because people underestimate Pixar almost every year.

Seriously Cars has a great chance of being number one of the summer and year.

The boxoffice predictor in me (I absolutely love predicting the boxoffice) says that Cars could easily win and that I might be over predicting Pirates 2 because I'm so looking forward to it. But I usually don't do that.

For all I know Superman Returns could be a good movie but I'm not getting huge boxoffice vibes from it (meaning 300+mil) I'm offten wrong so I even take myself with a grain of salt, still while everyone was predicting Batman Begins to crush Spider-man, I was thinking 190mil.

Superman has been on screen before Spidey hadn't, people still remember that movie and Reeves as Supes. I think that that will stop the movie from ubtaining uber B.O, then again the last Superman movie came out 20 years ago...I'm so confused, anywho I'm thinking.

71/120mil Total 280mil. big gross but not a titanic killer.

I think the same can be said about POTC2. A lot people are over predicting this movie. It's going to be huge no doubt. But I don't think it's gonna gross over 300 million. Right now I'd have to say 280 million.

And yes, you're right. Cars has got a great shot at beating them both.

I don't remember most people were predicting BB to beat Spidey's records. Those were probably the extreme Bat loonies. Then again, there are extreme loonies for every movie franchise.

That's a decent prediction for SR. But I think it'll do more than that. 85/340. Yes, I believe this movie will have great legs. I love predicting box-office numbers too so I'm very excited about SR and it's BO potential. Of course I look forward to watching the movie more. June 27th can come soon enough!:supes:

Not that it matters one way or another, but I'd love to know how these "insiders" get their numbers.

Cars could indeed take this summer's box office, who knows. It will be between Cars, SR, and POTC2 in my opinion. X3 could end up in the mix as well, even though it set a post Memorial Day drop record.

Also, who in the hell predicted BB to make Spider-man numbers? That's ridiculous.........

Did Lord Of The Rings make any money overseas, who in the world besides the U.S. and UK know what LOTR is anyway?

UHHH YES!

return of the king grosses 800 million overseas.

trust me the rest of the world caught up pretty quickly on the lore after FOTR ;)

I wouldnt take that number for granted. Batman Begins only made like $372 million worldwide, it was a rousing success in part because it only cost $150 million to make, thats almost a 150% profit.

Say Supes makes $500 million worldwide, thats only a 25% profit, and they spent $400 million to make just $100 million. That's not great business. This film would have to amke $900 million to have the same profitability ratio as Batman Begins...

True but BB was unique in that it not only was a commercial success but was truly a good film, with nearly unanimously good reviews. Of course Da Vinci got panned and still did well so who knows.

LOTR is actually considered the 2nd best selling book in history. A lot of people were aware of the story before the film, and then even more became associated with it after the films.

400 mill, is a damn good number for SR. But since this is Superman, the most recognizable hero, who knows how much it'll make. The M:I franchise made 400 mill, as well. It was a hit.

Considering European litterateur has always spread across ALL of Europe pretty quickly, 3 of the 4 books were animated in Japan for worldwide viewing, and all of modern western fantasy is based on Lord of the Rings, including games like D&D, EverQuest… ect. I think most of the free world had heard of Tolkien's work prior to the movies release. Just to give a little more perspective The Hobbit has sold in 35 million copies making it the best selling fiction ever.

In answer... a lot of people outside of the US and UK.

Holy crap a lot of people beat me to that...

note to self... type faster.

Not to mention that Tolkien's work was heavily influenced by North & Eastern European folklore.

aye laddy... that it was.

I wrote a dissertation on it in collage. In the process of my research I found some amazing stories/books from long (for the most part) forgotten authors, and as you said word of mouth folklore who inspired a lot of his work.

Amazing stuff.
