Yeah, 4 was garbage. It really felt like a joke at that point. I liked Rene Russo in #3 but overall the movie didn't feel dark or serious enough. What I liked about the first two was that while Riggs in many ways is a comedic character, his overall loose cannon attitude comes from a place of deep pain. By 3 and 4, he just comes off like a goofball.
When I rewatched #1 especially I was a little surprised to realize how dark and edgy Riggs actually starts out as (although Gibson’s Australian accent kept slipping in).
The big drawbacks about #3 to me are
1) Joe Pesci who IMO is hilarious in #2 is really shoehorned back in and recycling the same shtick. They keep coming up with contrived ways to involve him in the action.
2) Stuart Wilson is a pretty lame bad guy. He feels like a nuisance and he’s a big step down from how sleazy and vicious Joss Ackland and Derrick O’Connor were in #2.
Yep, agree with all of that. Pesci was brilliant in 2 but yeah, they just keep shoehorning him into 3 to keep the same thing going. And the villain did suck. He just seemed like a low-level henchman type, not big bad.
FFS, the last movie came out 22 years ago.
Danny Glover is 73. He is LITERALLY too old for this **** now!
Guess I'm the only one that genuinely likes LW4?
The fights are competently filmed and the sound design makes them appropriately fast and brutal. It doesn't get enough credit in that regard.Guess I'm the only one that genuinely likes LW4?
I’m surprised Mel Gibson doesn’t direct it himself. He’d make a dark, violent film for sure. But I know he has strong loyalty for Richard Donner so maybe Richard Donner doesn’t want to go out with Timeline being his last film.
It was a really good ending.I guess I love the ending of 4. It is so sweet and charming... considering how in bad shape Mel Gibson's character was in 1, to see him with a happy ending... is just... I don't know, the ending of 4 gets me.
They shouldn’t have even made #4.
