Lethal Weapon V

Mel Gibson's kept himself in pretty great shape. I don't know about Lethal Weapon 4, but I'm pretty sure he pulled off the "action" thing in Expendables 3. In fact, he was the highlight from an otherwise terrible movie.

Now they just keyframe the actor's face to the tracking dots on their stunt doubles' faces.

even though he was more of a "poor mans Riggs" used as a last minute replacement after Clayne Crawford's "departure" of the show version...

but I actually liked, Seann William Scott's character Wesley Cole in that....

was wondering if they did make a LW5 if they could incorporate their own movie version of that character (with or without recasting) not necessarily as Riggs replacement this time around, but just a new character in general added to the cast

maybe like have him be Butters (Chris Rocks character) new partner or something

Didn’t both Mel Gibson and Danny Glover’s daughter have kids in the fourth. So they’d be both about 22 at this point. I’m sure they’ll incorporate them in that way somehow.

Lorna Cole was played by Rene Russo in the last couple movies.

Danny Glover on George Floyd and Possibly Reviving ‘Lethal Weapon’ – Variety

In January it was reported that producer Dan Lin said there are plans to do another “Lethal Weapon” sequel with you and Mel Gibson on board. Is there any truth to that?

There has been a conversation about that in January. I don’t want to give away the plot on the script that I read, but I found the plot had very strong relevance to some of things that are happening today. I can say that. But that was in January. History changes so fast…But yes, there’s been talk about it. There is something of a plan.

Would you like to do it? Sounds like you liked the script.

Yes, I liked it. I can only tell you, if it does happen, there is something extraordinary in it. If “Lethal Weapon” gives us some sort of contribution to understanding a little bit more…It would be interesting to do. It would be interesting to see how we take this within the political framework we are in; the economic framework that we are in. And especially that framework as opposed to the communities that have been affected by the kind of police violence, the kind of police standards, and the power that they exert as well. And what would be interesting from that vantage point is what that attempt could be like at this particular moment.

And maybe it will attempt to confront the issue head on, within whatever script comes out.

I really like the idea of an older hero(s) coming back for one last ride....or a few if done right. The hero has to be different from when in younger films but if the viewer can easily accept that the hero from the older films can turn into the older version in a new film then I'm all for it and doesn't ruin watching the classic films. Thats all I ask.

I'll see it. I love Donner, but I wish Black wrote and directed this. His idea was great and more thematically consistent with the first movie. The sequels ditched the urban western approach and just became buddy movies. Which is fine, it's just there was something deeper and more nuanced with that first movie that the rip offs and even the sequels missed.

I love Lethal Weapon 2, I just have no idea what it's really trying to say.

That smoking'll kill ya!

I'll believe it when I see it.

Doesn't reall interest me either. Gibson and Glover are so old. Especially Glover. Gibson still does action or physical type movies so that's fine I guess.

I also am wondering...do most people care about Lethal Weapon anymore? Like Die Hard sure has the whole meme/debate that comes around every year of "Is it a Christmas movie" yadayada so that's helped with keeping it relevant.

But I rarely hear anyone under 40 say or even mention Lethal Weapon like that. If there's any buddy cop movie that they do mention it's Bad Boys.

Younger audiences don't care about the franchise, Gibson, or Glover like that. Pesci is retired. Don't see why make this.

But good for them.

Maybe if this like 10 or 15 years ago, but I just don't see the point of another Leapon Weapon movie, especially with how much Danny Glover has aged over the years.

Gibson could still pull it off because he's in better shape, but there's a reason he hasn't been in a big budget or mainstream film in a long time and I that's not changing anytime soon IMO.

I still enjoy his work even today, but his image and movie star status has been officially tainted now and the big reason I believe Live Free or Die Hard was successful in the first place was because Bruce Willis was a mainstream draw at the time despite going through a few failures aswell.

Maybe it will take place in a single setting and mainly be a detective type movie. I hope they don’t try to make it all actiony and make the characters retain their comedic chemistry but be a more mystery/detective-related story

Don't hold your breath. This is definitely gonna be a Richard Donner film to which the films became more and more of. They became jollier. I expect many laughs to be had.

Didn't Roger just turn 50 in the first movie? Wouldn't that put him in his 80s in the next one?

Hey, let them all work again together! Why not. I mean, this could end up just being some HBO Max film with a small budget, but I'd like to see what 90 year old Richard Donner can do as a director what will most likely be his truly last film.

I mean, 16 Blocks was pretty enjoyable at the time - some thinking it made a better Die Hard 4 than Die Hard 4.

Just make sure to bring back EVERYONE! And whoever they cast as the grown up kid/grandkid of Riggs and Murtaugh, respectively.

The better question would be ... why?

As @TheVileOne has already mentioned, the 4th film gave them the happy ending, there's no need for a 5th film which would be done for the pure sake of it, rather than because something was left open or they needed to wrap something up.

If I were to watch a new LW film I'd want to watch Gibson and Glover - they're the guys who've made these films as enjoyable as they've been, but realistically, they'd be a means of imposing the film on their children who'd be shoved to the forefront. Gibson might just about have some good action scenes in him, but Glover? He'd end up needing a hip replacement.

I vote no. Let the trilogy be remembered well. Let the 4th film be ... remembered; I enjoyed it but I am aware it wasn't as favourable as the first three. We don't need a 5th, not with this franchise.

A 5th film has been in development hell or just rumored for years. I'd check it if I does ever happen but I doubt it will because it's just too late now. 4 wasn't the best or even all that great but not bad and the ending with the end credits was the perfect send-off!
