Lethal Weapon V

From what I understand, R.Donner just said he was Ok to do another movie, not that it will happen or that a studio contacted him to do one more. It's only fluff talk.
I think it will never be.

What would the story be?
The last film dealt with Riggs getting older.
Well, he’s even older now.
If they are not careful,
The franchise will become a parody of itself.

They’ll probably bring in younger recruits that are supposed to be cooler than R&M, and then the partners end up saving their butts like they did with Expendables and Bad Boys

We need it about as much as we do Back to the Future Part 4 and Ghostbusters 3.
Right up there with Gladiator 2, Edge of Tomorrow 2, Bad Boys 3, Men in Black International, Meg 2, Django 2, Beverly Hills Cop 4, and anything involving Bay and the Transformers Universe.

Some of these are unconfirmed but there are reports of them. I'm sure with enough time, I can create a substantial list of films we'd rather not have.

I'm going to throw the Margot Robbie PotC soft reboot into this too. PotC is Jack Sparrow - pretty much, and Margot Robbie just isn't funny.

I'm sure even a couple of those even might turn out OK. I admit I liked Bad Boys 3 while not really liking the past 2 films either. But yeah it's just excessive.

On a very basic level, I’d be extremely curious to see what the hell they end up doing for this if it got made. For good or ill.

in that sense, it’s already doing more for me than most franchise movies which I feel only apathetic towards.

The better question would be ... why?

As @TheVileOne has already mentioned, the 4th film gave them the happy ending, there's no need for a 5th film which would be done for the pure sake of it, rather than because something was left open or they needed to wrap something up.

If I were to watch a new LW film I'd want to watch Gibson and Glover - they're the guys who've made these films as enjoyable as they've been, but realistically, they'd be a means of imposing the film on their children who'd be shoved to the forefront. Gibson might just about have some good action scenes in him, but Glover? He'd end up needing a hip replacement.

I vote no. Let the trilogy be remembered well. Let the 4th film be ... remembered; I enjoyed it but I am aware it wasn't as favourable as the first three. We don't need a 5th, not with this franchise.

But look. Did we ever think we’d like a Karate Kid tv series that explores the lives of middle age Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence 30 years later? Hell no. The story was technically done in ONE movie. The franchise was dead after 2.

I mean, yeah, nothing should ever work bringing back a dead franchise. But sometimes, we can be surprised. I don’t count out anything nowadays. You just never know.

Fair play, but while I think the first season of Cobra Kai was OK, the second and third seasons are awful IMO.

But we had a LW tv series, and it was cancelled. :p

If the plan was to relaunch the tv series, or to reboot the films then that's one thing, what I'm against is continuing the franchise with the same cast, because at this point, as much as I/we may enjoy seeing that dynamic between them again, I just don't think they'd be able to pull it off, not in the way we'd like them too.

I love Cobra Kai, but even it has its limitations and it definitely shows when it comes to their budget. I get the feeling a Lethal Weapon 5 in this day and age would just be another Bill & Ted Face the Music or worse which is a movie that I enjoyed, but you could tell it didn't have much of a budget and that was with Keanu Reeves coming back as Ted who is a pretty big deal right now because of John Wick.

I just don't want to see some cheap, half assed Lethal Weapon movie with an old Mel Gibson and a really old Danny Glover made for streaming, because you know Warner Bros isn't going to want to put any real money into it and honestly why should they when neither of the stars are big draws anymore.

Danny Glover is way too old to be doing this.

Also even 4 movies was at least one too many.

A bit or irony there, given his catchphrase in the series was "I'm too old for this sh#$."

I can just see the reviews of LW 5 now, critics will be racint to see who can file the tagline " He really was too old for this sh#$.

LW 4 IMO was terrible, overstuffed and nonsensical. They really should have stopped at 3. Have to say that Jet Li was pretty menacing though.

Lol in my review of #4 I said that in the scene where they pump themselves up by chanting “we’re not too old for this ****”, one is tempted to say “yes you are”.

Why not a low budget gritty Lethal Weapon where Mel Gibson has lost his mind and hallucinates Danny Glover's ghost as they go on one last epic crime heist.

LW 4 is one of my least favorite LW films, but Jet Li was a great villian in it. I can pretty much watch it for his scenes alone, because he is easily the best part of the movie.

My personal favorite LW villains are Joss Ackland and Derrick O'Connor in #2.

But agree Li was the best part of #4 (which, no knock against him, but that isn't saying much).

Joss Ackland was such a great villain - you simply can't wait for him to get what's coming to him.

Derrick O'Connor was great too as " evil henchman #1"

Yea they were a great pair. Great templates for the slimy big bad you love to hate, and the vicious henchman.

Joss Ackland was born to be villainous. That voice. I half expected him to turn on Emilio Estevez in The Mighty Ducks, maybe his only "hero" role.

He also played C.S. Lewis in the original 1985 (?) TV movie of Shadowlands, before it was redone as a movie with Anthony Hopkins.

But agreed, he was born to be villainous.
