So i take the missus to see that new friday the 13th today (dont Bother your not missing much) only to have film ruined by people in the cinema left right and centre chatting, answering phones and texting.

Why go to the cinema if your not even gonna watch the movie? why pay to see a movie your not gonna even watch? What do these people not understand about the adverts that say 'turn off your phone'? Is their text message really that important?

I really needed to get this off my chest as i am sick of people talking in the cinema (not to mention a group of French people have a good old chin wag during Phantom of the Opera, not the film the show).

Are you one of those that feel its ok to chat during the movie because if you are you really get on my tit's.

dude
your not the only one
this happens everywhere
and its really annoying
especially the texting thing
some people are so obsessed
with text message that
they cant spend 90 min.
without doing it

It is physically impossible for me NOT to make comments during a movie, however I keep them quiet. I hate when people complain to others about talking or text or stuff, that's hard to ignore because they make a scene about it. Just ignore it and watch the movie.

F--king hell man. I need to update my twitter for whatever I am doing.

Just deal with it. :o

This is one of my all-time biggest pet hates! Cant stand it!

I propose a three-strike solution... You get three chances, after that your photo and information is taken and stored in the cinema offenders register...
Everytime you want to go to a movie afterwards, it'll be the law that you have to be strapped down to one of those upright wheelie beds and gagged. Being rolled in to the theater and guarded by the ushers (who happen to be armed to the teeth just in case)
I call it the Hannibal Lecter Technique.

It's the only way to stop them.

You have to be PROACTIVE when it comes to this 'S'! If you live near many theaters, personally ban the ones the suck when it comes to service, bad attending crowds. If you cannot avoid this, try to select times when teenager presence is minimized (impossible/debatable). When all else fails, tell yourself you're worth more, and quit going to the movies. Invest in High Def & BluRay instead. :( - Submit or Resist

I love this idea i think i'd go to the cinema more just to see people being wheeled in, gagged.

The problem is theaters are ran by toddlers who are either handicapped or "handicapped".

Theaters are practically fast-food chains, but with no training, insurance, or health code...:(

well here in philly, we just shoot the *******s

Very true, i used to work at one and was told the Cinema chains main income came from the food that they make little from the ticket price of the movies.

Just complain to the management. They'll kick the *******s out. I've seen it happen.

And if they refuse to ask them to stop or remove them, and you're not too far into the movie, just leave and ask for your money back. They have to return your money if you're not satisfied (at least in the theaters in my area) if you watched something like less than half the movie. Be sure the manager knows about it and threaten to not come back if

Then go spend your money on renting a movie and spend a romantic evening at home on the couch. She'll see that you're willing to stand up for yourself, and still work to make the evening special. It's a win-win. :D

So you have a row of 8 friends talking in front of you during a movie you want to see. You say nothing?

I won't notice or care. I'm there for a movie, not an argument. People talk, that's how things are. I expect stupidity in public.

Best way I deal with it is go during a weekday as early as possible. Never, ever on a Friday or Saturday night.
In fact, there is a theater here that gives free popcorn on Tuesdays and has for years. Despite that, there are never more than 20 people in any theater I have been in on a Tuesday (including 3 times in the last 2 months).

You made 3 mistakes:
1) Going to see Friday the 13th
2) Going to a movie opening weekend
3) Going to a movie on a weekend night

I hate this, too. I've only see 3 movies in theaters the past 3 years (Superman Returns, Transformers, The Dark Knight) because of it.

I remember in a similar thread, jag (i think it was jag) posted a story where he took someone's cell phone and got an applause from people nearby.

I saw Seven Pounds with my girlfriend when it came out and we're both movie buffs so we talk through the whole movie, but we always keep it down.

But this time apparently we were too loud and the woman in front of us had to tell us to be quiet. I was mortified. I apologized to her as she said it and then again afterwards. I was so embarrassed and mad at myself that I ruined the movie for her.

Ten Points to anyone who can find that clip.

If I go to a movie on opening weekend, it's always their earliest (or noonish) showings on Sunday. Because most viewers in my area tend to be at church or watching football (during that time of year). Or they're sleeping in from a late Saturday.

My best experince, we went to a showing one night...and were the only eight in the who theater! :D

Complete opposite: went to a comedy and the theater was filled with a bunch of older people (the nature of the movie attracted them), and they refused to laugh. And if we laughed (not wild laugh, just normal laugh), they'd glare at us.

^ Gotta agree. People have KILLED my desire for opening nights/weekend nights! Dark Knight?? FORGET IT! I went on Saturday morning at 10:00am...STILL a soldout show, mind you, but still. Much more stable crowd!

Got the same thing Sunday for TDK. Not sold out, but full. Made me nervous, but the crowd was great. :word:

Sunday evenings are much more tolerable too. Saw Spidey 3 then. Though I might as well have gotten my phone out during that movie. :(

Felt the same way about Mummy 3. Wasn't my idea to go, was my money though. :(

Oddly enough, that was a Sunday morning too, and I think it was packed.

Funny you mention Mummy 3. I had free passes to it b/c I was working at Borders at the time (they gave out weekly vouchers to sneak previews), and this screening was the WORST sneak preview I've ever been to! It was at AMC but the sound was analog and only coming out of the front/top speakers. Also there were other technical problems, not including Brenden Frasier's acting or the movie's script...we ended up laughing and talking through whole portions. I was a total jerk in that one, I own it, but the sponsor deserved a swift kick in the NUTZ!
