just got out of college and asked myself is making a movie that simple?.. after watchin blair witch/ReC1&2/paranormal Activity, yes it is that easy. Not taking anything away from those movies they were great. I thought the best place to look for an "A-team" of ppl that loved movies which are carried by the plot not the actors was SHH

Personally, Im great at music production, so themes and music would be my part. Does anyone have film experience, after effects skills, or any type of other skills that pertain to making a movie. Once we figure out an "A-team" we'll talk about the plot ectt.. I have alot of music that once you listen to you can just think of a plot that would go well with it, one in particular is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJlo0hWnZWc , my beats/music are very similar.

Lets Do It

What kind of movie are you talking about? Are we talking something like Kickassia that was made by the people at ThatGuyWithTheGlasses, or something bigger? Also, while many people here go to film school (and I myself have written a screenplay), how would you plan on bringing everyone together for this. We at the hype tend to be a poor bunch :csad:

Along with this place, you should check out a place called wreck-a-movie. It's a nice little community that is trying to do what you're doing here.

Honestly, I wouldn't be against working with a gang of people from here and making something. I have been looking for something to write, and it would prob be fun.

However, the problem is I find it hard to trust that anything would actually get done. I can see a bunch of us getting together, all gung ho about doing it. And then months go by without any progress and it would slowly die.

If I were to dedicate time and energy on something here, I'd have to be sure stuff would get done.

That definitely is an issue, when someone isn't sitting right in front of you it's hard to make sure they're on task.

Exactly. Which is why I raise the question of how closely involved would we all be, would we want people on set with one another (assuming we needed actual filming), and if we needed people on a set, how would we account for travel.

Like I said, if anyone was serious about doing something, I'd gladly help. But, I'd want assurance it is serious. I'm right now trying to get involved with films anyway I can right now, so I'd be willing (I actually might be a production assistant on a low budget horror movie soon). But, I would have to know it is worth the time.

I would imagine the only people who wouldn't need to be actually present would be writers, effects, music and possibly editing people. Director/Camera/Sound/Actors would all have to be there at the least.

Exactly, and you'd have to find a way to get all those people together to film something. Which means people moving or crashing with someone for possibly months (I know I couldn't quit my job right now to do something like this...I need money, lol). Other people likely would have to work during it too, which would delay production.

I'd be interested in writing and maybe directing. I do have many ideas for films, and I think I am good at keeping people on task and I have a good eye for story I feel. However, I have not worked much with film/sound equipment, so we'd have to get people who know what their doing if this went anywhere.

yea kickass is def. a path we can go towards, i was just trying to get a feel of if anybody else would be down.. As far as movie ideas, i'm thinking the horrors genre fits most perfectly with an amateur movie crew. Simple ideas work in this genre also. Like i said before im good at everything music and thats usually were I get inspiration for movie ideas. im in NY btw, which i feel is the PERFECT place to film something, the scene changes constantly depending on what your looking for, the people are the most diverse, all in all everything is up for customization in NY. Where's everyone else from?

on a side note I feel like professionally filmed "low budget" movies are whats in right now instead of that big blockbuster feel, so now would be a perfect time to exploit that. and this is something that has been on my mind for a long time, i jus needed the right group to circulate the motivation..and have skills associated with movie production lol

The pitfall of NY is it is hella expensive and complicated to do any exterior shots in. You'd be better off doing it in somewhere more suburban. I'd agree horror is best bet in making something low budget.

I make movies in the bedroom all the time. It'd be nice to make something with more of a storyline and character development.

I don't think he's talking about short films! :awesome:

I actually have an awesome idea for a film that I think would be fairly cheap and fit this site's clique perfectly. But, I would be afraid of someone stealing my idea...cause it is good :csad:

Also, you couldn't just blind hire departments on here. how you'd need to run something like this is first get like 3 or 4 people together. 1 of them the Director, and a couple of Producers who sole job would be raise money. Then you'd have to either have the director write it or get a script from someone. You can't hire Post-Pro people before you have a script, lol. You need those parts moving, first.

sounds good, im happy im actually having a serious conversation about this with people. I think the first question to ask everyone is who's down and who's in NY?

Even if were not close as far as location wise imagine overcoming that to make a movie, that would be an accomplishment

Like I said before, I'd be down...but depends on many things and how serious anyone interested would be.

I would hardly call BW or PA good movies, but I don't think its that easy as you think. Especially if you want to make a quality product.

But I'd be willing to look for people to help me out and vice vera.

yea i did'nt mean it would be that easy making it but with direction and organization I can def see it being not as stressful as you would think.. are you guys from NY?

with youtube/SSH/facebook&myspace&twitter on our sides now is an ideal time to make something happen, im done with school so i can focus all the time in the world to this...

I live in Pennsylvania.

It can be very stressful if you have a idea and whatnot, but don;t have anyone to help you out at all. Like with me, there is no one around me.

I am also on Facebook and Myspace.

I have 4 full done scripts, plus I'm working on a few and also have a lot of ideas that I haven't even written yet. I mainly dabble in the Horror/Thriller genre.

I'm an Ohioan. That is the frustrating part, when you have no help to get work done. Places like Ohio are not good for aspiring filmmakers (at least, in the learning process) :csad:

I just graduated from college as well with a film degree. I just finished my thesis about a month ago, which was preceded by an entire year of stress to get it right and that was for a 12 minute short where everyone working on it was within a 5 block radius. Regardless of how much praise it's gotten since, it's ****ing aggravating at times.

Don't get all touchy about the next comment, but I find your original post slightly insulting.

Fine, that makes me one of those whiny pretentious film majors who won't find a job right out of college. Wah wah wah.

If you want to make a quality film, then you need to make a film that doesn't just rely on plot and say "**** it" to your characters. otherwise, you're wasting everyone's time and wind up with crap like those "_____ Movies" and when that happens, be prepared for pitch forks.

Hey I'm in! I love making short films! What if we all met up at NYC comic-con and made like a little mockumentary about SHH?
