Lets Make A Movie

well if we went with the idea of doing a mockumentary we could have like a rought script of how the plot would go?

We're talking a mockumentary about SHH or are we talking superhero fans in general? What exactly is the idea?

If we made a mockumentary about SHH, why would anyone care about the site? The idea I think needs explored more outside it being about SHH or whatever. I mean, what is the hook? What kind of story are we trying to tell? Are we trying to dispell the bad images people get with nerds? Are we lovingly making fun of ourselves? I just don't get the hook for this idea. Is this basically a SHH version of Trekkies?

I was thinking it could be about a bunch of us meeting up at comic con and just our community.

So, kind of like what that one girl is doing meeting her facebook friends, only for SHH?

That doesn't sound like it needs a script. What would be the story idea that would need scripted?

Getting people in one location is tough, but depending upon where people live not impossible.

I just think we need to come up with an idea worth working on and scripting. I mean, mockumentary on the site is not a bad idea. It's just, what makes it a mockumentary and not just documenting a bunch of us hooking up?

I mean you actually need to come up with a story and whatnot. Not just saying okay, so were gonna get a bunch of people in place and then not what to do.

I mean I think something needs to be more well thought out, before even trying to do anything or asking how its gonna get made. You just cause say okay were gonna do a mockumentary and BS it from there.

Agreed. If we don't have any idea for a story beyond people hooking up and winging it, it is a documentary. Mockumentaries need to be films in the style of a documentary, but with a scripted purpose in mind.

If your just talking to people and hooking up, I wouldn't call that a Mockumentary, it just seem like people meeting up and talking about events. Sorta like what a documentary is.

Now say if people were at a Convention where you were meeting and greeting people and I don't know all of a sudden a monster attack happens all of a sudden ALA Cloverfield happen. They made you need a written script for it. You then could film it that was in a Mockumentary.

I don't know, I'm just pulling stuff out of thin air. LOL.

You could make a mockumentary about people hooking up and such, but they couldn't be real people. They'd have to be characters, and there would have to be some sort of story unfolding in the documentary style. We don't necessarily need a monster or anything, lol. Just an underlying story and purpose. Like Borat.

I know, that's why I was just pulling things out of thin air, it was the first thing that popped into my head. But if its low budget, something like you said.

Exactly. Now, hypsters hooking up at a convention for comics is a nice backdrop for the story, but I feel like the convention needs to be somehow symbolic to the overall point/theme of the project. With the digital age of the internet, and the changing dynamic in friendship to being more remote, doing something that shows the difference between real life interaction and message board interaction is cool. But, I kind of fear it would be too similar to that internet series right now about the girl meeting all of her facebook buddies in real life.

Thats why add something else to it. At the start make it out to be one type of movie, where all the friends meet each other, then half way in it drastically turns into a different movie. It turns into a suspense/thriller. Like someone is after them. I mean you could go from there and it wouldn't seem like that one thing. I mean its real I guess you could say and something that could happen.

Here's a good Mockumentary that doesa good job of mixing two things.

And the person doing this is the person who was been mocked or made fun of on the website and even banned. I know it might sound cheesy, but hey.

It adds that certain little something to it.. While making it real and yet not.

What i'm thinking is that we come up with a basic plot. But then use a lot of real life things on the hype in the film. As for characters we all just act like ourselves but exagerate the personality types.

It sounds like you wanna write a fanfic. LOL. No offense.
haha I wasn't really trying to go down that route. It's so hard to make a film when we're not all together though. But if we actually pull this off we win at life.

i don't think it sounds fanfic-ish. all you need is a good plot and interesting characters. i think it could be great.

thinking about when I go on the skype hype I think we have a lot of interesting people who could be awesome characters in a mockumentary.

I think you need the story premise before you can move forward with bringing people together. Bounce ideas off me in PMs, and I'll help you formulate a story.
