Lieberman is one of the last old school, moderate democrats. If he goes, so does the "people's party". The democratic party is quickly becoming a fringe left party. And if dems plan to win elections, that's probably not a good thing. IMO of course.

If by old school you mean a dixiecrat I agree. Lieberman's views on censorship, equality, education, and foreign policy are so conservative its not even funny. The man is hardly a democrat. I am sure the GOP are quite happy that he lost and will be running as an independent. The split in the democrat vote will guaruntee them the election in Connecticut.

lieberman..you were a disgrace to the democratic party, the state of Connecticut has spoken get the f outta here you sorry sack of crap.He was a republican trapped in a democrats body.It wasnt just the war in iraq that made him lose, it was almost everything he stood for..Oh man this is a great day for the democrats:)

hillary clinton, you wishy washy biatch... you better change your stance on alot of your policies ..or your next..muahahaahahahahah:)

What the Democratic Party has become is a disgrace if you ask me. :o

I may have not liked a lot of Liberman's stances but I certainly respected Liberman's willingness to work with the other side and he helped take part in preventing what could have been a very ugly situation in Congress by forming the Gang of 14, something Lamont will certainly not do.

Hillary Clinton does not have a stance, she's a fake attempting to get as many votes as she can

Lamont won, yay. There has not been a fringe left in the USA since the 1930's. Just because the barking dogs on Fox News say the democratic party is becoming a fringe left party for ditching traitors like Lieberman, that does not make it so.

But aren't Dixiecrats technically "old school" Democrats. And you make a good point. This is good news for the Republicans.

BS, the only thing Lieberman differs in opinion on with the rest of the dems is the war in Iraq. Even Clinton backs him publicly.

The dems are making a HUGE mistake by alienating him and others who are considered 'moderate' democrats. But hey, it's fine by me in the long run. It just means that more and more people will view the democratic party as becoming extremely left - no longer just 'leaning' left, but veering close to the edge - and will either vote independent or republican.

Remember, the MODERATES are who decide the victors in elections.

No, Lieberman is acutally quite conservative in many issues. He would be more classified as a moderate Republican than an actual Democrat if you ask me

No, they are making a huge mistake because like Matt said, this is going to split the Democratic vote. And while yes people are viewing the Democratic leadership as extremely left that is out of touch with the views of the American people (Howard Dean, Nancy Pelosi, Charles Schumer, Ted Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, etc), the same can be said for the Republican leadership as extremely right that is also out of touch with the views of the American people (George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Bill Frist, Tom DeLay, etc.).

It's a damn shame, Congress could use more people like Mark Warner, John McCain, Rudi Gulliani, and other moderates

Remember, the MODERATES are who decide the victors in elections.
Not true again. In some areas, they are strongholds for certain parties. Anything that is not that party tends to get screwed over (New York)

I'm all for Lamont. Leiberman didn't represent the Democratic party. He was way too right-leaning, and not just on Iraq. But, on the topic of Iraq, this sends an important message to the politicians that the American people don't approve of the war and don't back people who are for the war. Just look at the polls, 60% of Americans disapprove of the war and want at least some of our troops withdrawn before the end of the year. The American people have spoken and hopefully those clowns in Washington will finally take notice. Did anyone notice the that Leiberman was trying to accuse Lamont of screwing with his website yesterday, when it was actually his crappy ISP that was at fault? What a *****e.

lieberman is a sore loser..our party kicked you out get over it

This in no way means our party moved way to the left, for instance its only one state! And allmost anyone would have beaten Lieberman, Lamont had the most money it wasnt because he was so far left the people loved that.

And yes it sends a strong message to all politicians, We want out!

Warner '08

Should be a good Colbert Report tonight! As soon as I heard this news this morning, that was the first thing that came to mind.

i bet the lieberman supporters on the right, like lazur for instance, feel the same about someone like chuck hagel as those of us on the left do about lieberman.

Lazur has openly criticized Arlen Specter on numerous occassions.

Today Karl Rove reached out to Lieberman...

Proves our point!

I've noticed that the Republican extremists that have been declaring this a giant victory have been suspiciously quiet about the Tom DeLay situation. :)

jag

LOL! More like we know why they arent talking about it.
