Liefield's Cable #1 varient cover

who cares about andy borehol or roy lickmyballs. hahahahaha. 2 classic nicknames.

This is the best Rob Liefeld drawing I've ever seen.

Which is to say, this is a quite terrible drawing.

By Liefeld's own standards, it's probably the most spectacular thing ever to be put to paper.

Naw, he probably hates it. I bet he looked at it after he was done and was like, what was I thinking? His feet are like, ten times too large! And I left out like 95% of the arm muscles he's supposed to have! And come on, I even forgot to taper his skull!

and he probably kicked himself when he realized he forgot to add in all the pouches around Cable's arms, legs, and waist.

I choose to think he did add them, but the inker was tasteful enough to edit them out and improve Liefeld's anatomy along the way.

Is this a 50/50 variant? Because if I get stuck with it, someone's going to hurt.

Why is everybody so picky about Lefield's anatomy? This is a comic book...everybody has clothes thats glued to their skin so you can see every tendon bursting from their body. I've seen his artwork with abnormal sizes, impossible perspectives and angles, drawn in guns, and warped Captain America Shields and I have to say...who cares really? Its a comic book. Is he overrated? Sure. But why is everybody just picking on him? There are other artists who aren't photo-realistic either.

Comics are comics.

There's a difference between not being photo-realistic and not being able to understand and employ the basic fundamentals of art.

This cover is really no better than any other Liefeld work. I think I said at one point that it was an improvement, but upon second glance, it's horrible.

But let me tell you what was actually, surprisingly good: his pinup in the last issue of Cable/Deadpool. It was like there was NOTHING wrong with it. It was just solid comic book art. Of course, I'm sure he couldn't duplicate it on a regular basis.

I'd like to point out that Deadpool's head is about as high as Cable's shoulder. No problem there. There's a height difference between the two. However, their knees are in the same position. I guess Cable dwarfs Deadpool so much that Deadpool's standing on an off-page box (which would make Deadpool about as high off the ground as Cable's stomach).

And I'm probably nit-picking, but I don't like the way Cable's left arm is positioned.

God, you are ****ing disgusting. The "It's a comic book!" argument is probably the lamest, stupidest, most idiotic argument anyone can ever use....It just pisses me off. Anytime something is bad in a comic we're supposed to be "Who cares?! It's a comic!" Thats the type of attitude that has subjugated comic books as "kids stuff" for years.

Speaking of stupid...what a kiddish reply. You're taking his artwork way too seriously. I mean Liefeld may not be the best artist out there, but hell...when I was 13 years old (A KID) and I saw his YoungBlood cover I wasn't looking at the hero's crotch and trying to see if the perspective was mathematically correct.

Maybe his artistic creativity has not grown since the 90's, but at least he draws something that everybody knows is Liefield...The reason why he is still out there making comics is because whatever he produces still sells. Hell he created the look of Cable and Deadpool...2 really cool characters for Marvel...give him a little bit of respect.

We do give him a little bit of respect.

Very little.

Something about the gun in his right hand just seems... off. Like the angle it's at.

its a shame you people cant give anyone credit and just have to throw artist under a bus just cause of previous work, a lot of you need to really grow up and stop jumping on a "i hate this" bandwagon just cause its the "cool" "fanboy" thing to do. when you all start making covers then you should talk till then you are just hating cause you have nothing better to do.

just a question, to the people who say its horrible and act like they understand and can draw anatomy so well, when are you going to post some of your work in this thread? seriously id love to see what some of you come up with since your all art critics and so damn good, **** i dont even like liefields work, overly large arms and etc is not my style BUT you all talk like you can draw better, LETS SEE IT...

One does not need to be a great artist to recognize a bad one.

I can't draw for ****, but that's why I DON'T ASK PEOPLE TO PAY MONEY FOR IT.

However, their knees are in the same position.
OK, yeah, he did **** up the knees. There's always something ugly in a Liefeld drawing. I was a fool to believe in him, even for that short moment.

Oh **** you. Get off the pulpit, man. We're not throwing anybody under the bus, his art is abominable. Man, who called all the Liefeld fanchildren and told them to come to this thread?

Yeah, but half the artists in comics do that.

Speaking of stupid...what a kiddish reply.
I do believe you just said the equivalent of "I know you are but what am I?". Congratulations. You've turned six.

You say that with the implication that it's a good thing just that people know who it is.

Turns out, I don't give a ****, his art is still a ****ing ****fest.

You should sop by the fan art section of these boards and you will see artist's that are incredible and have 100x the talent Liefield has, which is a shame cause chances are some of them will prolly never get hired. All because horrid artist like this man still get work and **** on the little guy who wants in on the game.

Deadpool's head and neck are firmly located over his left pec, and Cable's is probably the same but for his right, though you can't reeeeeally tell because the world's biggest guns are obscuring just how far out Liefeld drew Cable's left shoulder. Cable is 8 feet tall with hands bigger than his head. Otherwise it's probably the best thing I've seen of Liefeld's

There's also a bit of a gay vibe I'm getting from that cover. I mean who stands that close to another guy. And the way Cable's arm is behind Deadpool's shoulder, it's the superhero equivalent of yawning in the theater next to your girl. Not so slick. With those guns, the only thing I can conclude from this cover is that Cable is definitely the pitcher.

No it's called irony. He makes this big deal about kid & teens reading comics...yet he acts like a 7 year old when someone doesn't agree with him. Can somebody just give him a lollypop and a Hello Kitty band aid?

....I don't give a ****, his art is still a ****ing ****fest.

OK, you've made your point already...you could have done it without all the asterisks.

Agreed. When I was 13 years old, Leifeld was up there with McFarlane, Keown, Jim Lee and Silvestri. As I grow older, I still don't mind his artwork, regardless of the mis-uniformity of it. Relax guys its just a comic (entertainment), it's not supposed to give you a migraine.

Something about the gun in his right hand just seems... off. Like the angle it's at.

It is off, the perspective is off. From the mid shaft of the gun, you can clearly see some sort of ventilation holes in it. But at the tip of the gun its completely lateral without any sense of 3d perspective.

But again..who's really keeping count of all this crap? The cover still kicks ass.
